Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...
(NOTE: All of these stories come from comingsoon.net)
We learned earlier this month that, fresh from the tremendous box office success of American Sniper, Clint Eastwood is lining up a new big screen biopic, planning to tackle the story of Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberg, the American hero who, in 2009, successfully landed US Airways Flight 1549 in the Hudson River in what has famously become known as the Miracle on the Hudson. Now, Deadline reports that fellow multi-Oscar winner Tom Hanks is in talks to headline. The film, which is at the moment without a title, will be based on Sullenberger’s 2009 autobiography, Highest Duty. Written with Jeffrey Zaslow, the book is described on Sullenberger’s official site as follows: On January 15, 2009, the world witnessed a remarkable emergency landing when Captain “Sully” Sullenberger skillfully glided US Airways Flight 1549 onto the Hudson River, saving the lives of all 155 aboard. His cool actions not only averted tragedy but made him a hero and an inspiration worldwide. Highest Duty is Sully’s story—a story of dedication, hope, and preparedness, revealing the important lessons he learned through childhood, in his military service, and in his work as a commercial airline pilot. It reminds us all that, even in these days of war, tragedy, and economic uncertainty, there are values still worth fighting for—that life’s challenges can be met if we’re ready for them. “I am very glad my story is in the hands of gifted storyteller and filmmaker Clint Eastwood, and veteran producers Allyn Stewart and Frank Marshall,” said Sullenberger of the feature film earlier this month. “The project could not have found a better home than Warner Bros. Pictures. This is truly a dream team.” Hanks, who was last on the big screen in 2013’s Saving Mr. Banks will soon be starring in Steven Spielberg’s Bridge of Spies, the true story of the Cold War’s U-2 spy plane incident and the man tasked by the CIA to negotiate with the Soviet Union. Eastwood will also produce the film through his Malpaso Productions alongside Frank Marshall of Kennedy/Marshall and Allyn Stewart of Flashlight Films.
This is terrific casting. Look Tom Hanks is one of the greatest actors of all-time and he can pretty much do anything and he is perfect for the role. He has proven that he can do any movie and he has done films like this before (i.e. Captain Phillips) and he has knocked them out of the park. He is the best and most obvious person for the film and I'm looking forward to watching a Tom Hanks and Clint Eastwood film.
Starz Digital has today released the trailer for the dramatic feature Boulevard, which had its world premiere at the 2014 Tribeca Film Festival. The film stars the late Robin Williams in his final dramatic performance. You can check out the trailer below. Directed by Dito Montiel (A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, The Son of No One), Boulevard tells the story of a married but closeted 60-year-old bank manager (Williams), whose life changes in surprising ways after recklessly picking up a young male hustler. The film also stars Kathy Baker, Bob Odenkirk and up and comer Roberto Aguire. Douglas Soesbe wrote the screenplay. It was produced by Monica Aguirre Diez Barroso, Ryan Belenzon, Mia Chang and Jeffrey Gelber. “‘Boulevard’ is a complex, life-affirming and surprising film and Robin’s final performance is absolutely remarkable,” said Kevin Kasha, head of acquisitions for Starz, earlier this year. “We are honored to be able to share Dito’s beautiful film with audiences this summer.” “We are very excited about partnering with Starz Digital to get this beautiful movie out there,” added producer Monica Aguirre Diez Barroso of Camellia Entertainment. “Through ‘Boulevard,’ Dito was able to capture Robin Williams at his best, and we couldn’t believe more in the team helping us share this piece of his legacy with audiences.” Boulevard opens in select theaters starting July 10.
This was a really depressing trailer. It was really heartbreaking to see Robin Williams in a dramatic film again because he has to use so many different emotions and you just wonder how he ended up committing suicide. You see in some parts of the trailer that he isn't himself and I don't know if it is just the role or if it's him being himself. The film itself looks brilliant and I can't wait to check the film out.
DreamWorks Animation has revealed the first Kung Fu Panda 3 trailer which you can watch below. The sequel is set to open in theaters on January 29, 2016. Continuing on his now legendary adventures of awesomeness, Po must face two hugely epic, but very different threats: one supernatural and the other a little closer to home. This chapter in the continuing adventures of Kung Fu Panda is directed by Jennifer Yuh Nelson, who also helmed the worldwide hit Kung Fu Panda 2, and features a script by series writers Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger. Jack Black returns as the voice of Po in the film along with Gary Oldman, Dustin Hoffman, David Cross, Angelina Jolie, Michelle Yeoh, Mads Mikkelsen, Danny McBride, Lucy Liu, Seth Rogen, Jackie Chan, James Hong, and Bryan Cranston. The first two chapters of DreamWorks Animation’s critically-acclaimed Kung Fu Panda franchise opened in 2008 and 2011. Both films were honored with Academy Award nominations for Best Animated Feature Film. Together, they have generated approximately $1.3 billion at the worldwide box office.
This was an interesting trailer. Now I din't laugh at all and to be hones the scene from the movie in the trailer then I'm a little worried about the film. Look I really enjoyed the first two films, but this one doesn't look funny at all. It is a teaser trailer, but it does leave me a little concerned.
Universal Pictures has brought online an irreverent new trailer for writer, director and star Seth MacFarlane’s Ted 2, which you can check out below. The plot of the sequel has Ted (MacFarlane) and new wife, Tami-Lynn (Jessica Barth) wanting to conceive a child. The first hurdle they encounter is Ted’s inability to reproduce, leading the couple to seek a sperm donor. That leads to bigger problems, however, when it comes into legal question whether or not Ted truly has the right to raise a child. A follow-up to the highest-grossing original R-rated comedy of all time (also helmed by MacFarlane, Ted grossed more than $549 million worldwide), Ted 2 features the return of Mark Wahlberg (Transformers: Age of Extinction, Lone Survivor), this time joined by Amanda Seyfried (A Million Ways to Die in the West, Les Miserables), Morgan Freeman (The Dark Knight trilogy, Lucy), Dennis Haysbert (“24,” Dear White People) and Liam Neeson (Taken, A Walk Among The Tombstones). Co-written by Ted‘s Alec Sulkin & Wellesley Wild, Ted 2 is also produced by MacFarlane alongside Jason Clark, John Jacobs and Bluegrass Films’ Scott Stuber. Look for it in theaters June 26.
This was a fun trailer. It showed a lot of stuff that we've already seen, but with a few new extra small scenes. I absolutely love the first film and at first I was skeptical, but now I'm really looking forward to it. Personally I'm a fan of Seth MacFarlane and his style of comedy and if you don't then you won't enjoy the movie or its predecessor.
Matthew Vaughn knows most of you didn’t care for the critical and box office whipping boy that was Kick-Ass 2, explaining to Yahoo that he’s “not happily done with the franchise.” “We’re working on an idea for a prequel of how did Hit-Girl and Big Daddy become Hit-Girl and Big Daddy,” he said. “If we make that, hopefully that will be the sorbet for the people that didn’t like ‘Kick-Ass 2’ and then we can go off and make ‘Kick-Ass 3.’ I think we’ve got to do this prequel to regain the love that we had with ‘Kick-Ass.'” This echoes statements Vaughn made a few months ago to JoBlo, where he stated that creator Mark Millar and he had already plotted Hit-Girl. “We have to get the script done next. It’s so far out there, you have no idea,” Vaughn said, adding that a proposed Kick-Ass 3 would likely take place mostly in the far east, with a director like The Raid‘s Gareth Evans behind it and stars Aaron Taylor Johnson and Chloë Grace Moretz back in the fold. It can also be surmised that the not-too-picky Nicolas Cage could once again sport the cape, cowl and Adam West voice as Big Daddy in a Hit-Girl prequel, although the no-longer pint-sized Moretz would most definitely have to be recast. While it’s noble of Vaughn to not want the Kick-Ass saga going out taking one on the chin, it was a major uphill battle getting the second one made even after the goodwill and moderate box office success of the first one.
I really don't know how to fell about this. On side I would love to see an origin story for Hit-Girl because of her past, but who's going to see the movie. I mean the Kick-Ass movies didn't make that much money to begin with and I don't think many people will want to see a film about a secondary character in a low money-making film. I also don't know who would play Hit-Girl because to do this you are going to have to go pretty young because Chloe Grace Moretz is 18 and she wouldn't fit into the story of a 9 year old girl. I'm a fan of Matthew Vaughn, but he doesn't need to do this.
