6-10-15 Movie News

Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

(NOTE: All of these stories come from comingsoon.net)

Lionsgate has brought online the new trailer for the upcoming franchise finale, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 which you can watch below. With the nation of Panem in a full scale war, Katniss confronts President Snow (Donald Sutherland) in the final showdown. Teamed with a group of her closest friends – including Gale (Hemsworth), Finnick (Sam Claflin), and Peeta (Hutcherson) – Katniss goes off on a mission with the unit from District 13 as they risk their lives to stage an assassination attempt on President Snow who has become increasingly obsessed with destroying her. The mortal traps, enemies, and moral choices that await Katniss will challenge her more than any arena she faced in The Hunger Games. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 is directed by Francis Lawrence from a screenplay by Peter Craig and Danny Strong and features a cast that also includes Academy Award-winner Jennifer Lawrence, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Jeffrey Wright, Willow Shields, Sam Claflin, Jena Malone with Stanley Tucci and Donald Sutherland reprising their original roles from The Hunger Games and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. The lineup is joined by The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 co-stars Academy Award-winner Julianne Moore, Mahershala Ali, Natalie Dormer, Wes Chatham, Elden Henson and Evan Ross. The film will be released in 2D, 3D and IMAX 3D theaters on November 20, 2015.

I really liked this trailer. To be quite honest this is my favorite trailer from the entire franchise so far. It has a lot of mystery behind it especially if you haven't read the books like myself and it reminded me of the first teaser trailer for the previous film, but with more action. The film is going to be filled with a lot of suspense and action that will keep you on the edge of your seat and I can't wait to see it.

Warner Bros. has officially released the synopsis for the long-awaited Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which reads as follows: Fearing the actions of a god-like Super Hero left unchecked, Gotham City’s own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis’s most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it’s ever known before. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice stars Henry Cavill in the role of Clark Kent/Superman, and Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman. The film also stars Gal Gadot as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, with Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane returning from Man of Steel, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons as Alfred, and Holly Hunter in a role newly created for the film. Jason Momoa will also be making an appearance as Aquaman. Written by Chris Terrio, from a screenplay by David S. Goyer, the film is produced by Charles Roven and Deborah Snyder with Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan, Wesley Coller, David S. Goyer and Geoff Johns serving as executive producers. Set to open worldwide on March 25, 2016, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is based on Superman characters created by Jerry Siegel & Joe Shuster, Batman characters created by Bob Kane, and Wonder Woman created by William Moulton Marston, appearing in comic books published by DC Entertainment.

I really like this synopsis. It confirms what everyone has been speculating what the film would be about and it does have a lot of mystery behind it. The last line could to refer to plethora of different ideas, storylines and characters. Some people believe that it means Doomsday will appear since it has been speculated that he would be in the film and others think it's going to be Lex Luthor. I tend to agree with the latter simply because Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor is going to be very young and possibly a new figure in the world and people haven't seen what he can do just yet. All I know is that after reading The Dark Knight Returns ( I highly recommend reading it). and knowing that the film is going to pretty much be an adaptation of that gets me really excited and I can't wait to see this film.

For what has to be one of the most dark horse mega-franchises of all-time, Pitch Perfect 2 has now scored over $250 million (and counting) worldwide on a $29 million budget, and inevitably Universal Pictures has sang to The Hollywood Reporter that they’re developing a trilogy capper for the a-cappela Bellas with the writer of the first two films, Kay Cannon. There’s no word about whether Universal and production company Gold Circle will lure back producer and series champion Elizabeth Banks to direct Pitch Perfect 3, and stars Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson will be able to do some hardball negotiating since there’s no option on them for a third movie. The studio did have some foresight, though, having signed Hailee Steinfeld to multiple films, so it looks like Emily Junk will definitely be rejoining Beca Mitchell and Fat Amy for one more glorious sing-off. Cannon, an Emmy-nominated writer and actress with a heavy improv background, is also known for her work on NBC’s “30 Rock” and Fox’s “New Girl.”

This is not surprising news. The first film was a silent hit at the box office and with both audiences and critics alike, plus the fact the Pitch perfect 2 is now a box office juggernaut, it's no surprise that a third film is one the way. I didn't like Pitch Perfect 2 as much as the first one, but I do have hope for the third movie and maybe it can get the franchise back on track.

It was the action franchise that first made a name for Michael Bay, Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, and now it’s being reported by the trades that two of the three might reunite with Sony Pictures wanting to revive the long-in-development Bad Boys 3 with Joe Carnahan in talks to do rewrites and direct an existing script by David Guggenheim. Of course, Sony hopes that Smith and Lawrence will return and are trying to fast track the project to be the next movie for Smith to shoot after he’s finished with Warner Bros.’ Suicide Squad. The original Bad Boys was released in 1995 and it grossed a relatively tame $65 million, but by the time Smith and Bay returned with Bad Boys II in 2003, they both were big enough names for a $46.5 million domestic opening (not bad for an R-rated film at that time) and a worldwide gross of $273 million. Although Carnahan doesn’t have a deal in place as of yet, his kinetic action films like Smokin’ Aces and The A-Team show that he’s capable of following in Michael Bay’s footsteps to take over the franchise. Carnahan’s most recent release, the Blumhouse-produced action flick Stretch starring Patrick Wilson never received a theatrical release, but that was following the Liam Neeson survival thriller The Grey, which was quite successful.

This is a really interesting choice and move. I love the first two Bad Boys films (1 more and 2) and fans have been dying for a Bad Boys 3 since 2002. I just think that Sony has waited too long to make the movie. Now granted Michael Bay has been busy as of late so it is understandable, but not acceptable since Sony could've went ahead with another film and another director. I think the person most excited about this is Martin Lawrence who has been absent from films for really long time. I also like that Joe Carnahan is a great choice for the film and he knows how to do action and do it well. I'm hoping that this film happens and if it does then I can't wait to see it.

Universal Pictures and Legendary Pictures have released the final Straight Outta Compton poster, which you can view below. The rap biopic opens in theaters on August 14. In the mid-1980s, the streets of Compton, California, were some of the most dangerous in the country. When five young men translated their experiences growing up into brutally honest music that rebelled against abusive authority, they gave an explosive voice to a silenced generation. Following the meteoric rise and fall of N.W.A., Straight Outta Compton tells the astonishing story of how these youngsters revolutionized music and pop culture forever the moment they told the world the truth about life in the hood and ignited a cultural war. Starring O’Shea Jackson Jr., Corey Hawkins and Jason Mitchell as Ice Cube, Dr. Dre and Eazy-E, Straight Outta Compton is directed by F. Gary Gray (Friday, Set It Off, The Italian Job). The drama is produced by original N.W.A. members Ice Cube and Dr. Dre, who are joined by fellow producers Matt Alvarez and Tomica Woods-Wright. Will Packer serves as executive producer of the film alongside Gray.

Straight Outta Compton

This is a great poster. It shows all of the core members of N.W.A. and I think this will be an iconic shot in the film. It also gives me a small resemblance to the cover of the album  of N.W.A.'s greatest hits album which shows all of the members of the group as well. Both of the trailers have been impressive so far and I cannot wait to see the film.
