6-2-15 Movie News

Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

(NOTE: All of these stories come from comingsoon.net)

The first teaser trailer for Disney•Pixar’s The Good Dinosaur is here! Directed by Peter Sohn and produced by Denise Ream, The Good Dinosaur opens in theaters on November 25. The Good Dinosaur asks the question: What if the asteroid that forever changed life on Earth missed the planet completely and giant dinosaurs never became extinct? Pixar Animation Studios takes you on an epic journey into the world of dinosaurs where an Apatosaurus named Arlo makes an unlikely human friend. While traveling through a harsh and mysterious landscape, Arlo learns the power of confronting his fears and discovers what he is truly capable of. The film is set to feature the voice talents of Lucas Neff, John Lithgow, Frances McDormand, Bill Hader and Neil Patrick Harris. Peter Sohn made his directorial debut with the Pixar short film Partly Cloudy. He has worked in the art, story and animation departments, and also has voiced the characters of Emile from Academy Award- winning Ratatouille and Scott “Squishy” Squibbles from Monsters University.” Denise Ream produced the Golden Globe-nominated film Cars 2 for Pixar Animation Studios, and served as associate producer for Disney•Pixar’s Academy Award-winning film Up. She also has an extensive background in producing visual effects and animation for live action films.

Eventhough it's just a teaser trailer I'm really excited to see this film. The premsie of the film is one that is interesting and it will give us a look of what could've happened had the asteroid not hit the earth and how dinosaurs would act in the present day. This will be Pixar's second film of 2015 (after not having one in 2014) and coming out after Inside Out. I think that these two films will put Pixar back on the map.

Universal Pictures has just debuted, via AMC, a new Red Band trailer for their upcoming comedy Ted 2. This one even features an opening that pays some acknowledgement to this December’s highly-anticipated Star Wars: The Force Awakens and you can check it out below. Written, directed and starring Seth MacFarlane, Ted 2 sees the titular teddy bear (MacFarlane) and new wife, Tami-Lynn (Jessica Barth) wanting to conceive a child. The first hurdle they encounter is Ted’s inability to reproduce, leading the couple to seek a sperm donor. That leads to bigger problems, however, when it comes into legal question whether or not Ted truly has the right to raise a child. A follow-up to the highest-grossing original R-rated comedy of all time (also helmed by MacFarlane, Ted grossed more than $549 million worldwide), Ted 2 features the return of Mark Wahlberg (Transformers: Age of Extinction, Lone Survivor), this time joined by Amanda Seyfried (A Million Ways to Die in the West, Les Miserables), Morgan Freeman (The Dark Knight trilogy, Lucy), Dennis Haysbert (“24,” Dear White People) and Liam Neeson (Taken, A Walk Among The Tombstones). Co-written by Ted‘s Alec Sulkin & Wellesley Wild, Ted 2 is also produced by MacFarlane alongside Jason Clark, John Jacobs and Bluegrass Films’ Scott Stuber. Look for it in theaters June 26.

It may have been a short teaser, but I honestly don't think that I've laughed so hard before in my life. I was a little worried about the film after Seth McFarlene did A Million Ways to Die in the West, but the trailer have got me hooked and I'm looking forward to the film. I absolutely loved the first film and it is easily one of the best comedies of this decade and possibly the millennium and hopefully this film can be just as good as is predecessor.

Following a first look back in March, 20th Century Fox has brought online a new trailer for their upcoming Paper Towns, based on the young adult novel by The Fault in Our Stars author John Green and you can check it out below. Starring Nat Wolff (The Fault in Our Stars, Stuck in Love) and Cara Delevingne (Anna Karenina, Suicide Squad), Paper Towns tells a coming-of-age story centering on Quentin (Wolff) and his enigmatic neighbor Margo (Delevingne), who loved mysteries so much she became one. After taking him on an all-night adventure through their hometown, Margo suddenly disappears–leaving behind cryptic clues for Quentin to decipher. The search leads Quentin and his quick-witted friends on an exhilarating adventure that is equal parts hilarious and moving. Ultimately, to track down Margo, Quentin must find a deeper understanding of true friendship – and true love. Directed by Jake Schreier (Robot & Frank), the film also stars Austin Abrams (The Kings of Summer, “The Walking Dead”), Halston Sage (Neighbors, The First Time) and Justice Smith (“The Thundermans”). The screenplay was written by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber. Paper Towns opens in theaters on July 24.

This was a pretty decent trailer. It's pretty much the same as the last trailer with a couple more scenes, but the film has my interest. I really enjoyed The Fault in Our Stars and after the success of that film I think this film can do just as good if not better. I haven't read the book so I'm going in with a blank memory and I can't wait to check it out.

Crackle and Happy Madison Productions have done debuted the teaser trailer for their upcoming comedy sequel Joe Dirt 2: Beautiful Loser, which stars David Spade, reprising his role from the 2001 original and you can check it out below. Billed as the first ever made-for-digital sequel to a major motion picture, Joe Dirt 2: Beautiful Loser will premiere on Crackle beginning July 16. Spade returns as the mullet-wearing, rock and roll loving, down on his luck white-trash-hero who embarks on another epic journey, this time through the recent past, the heartland of America – and his own mind – to get back to his loved ones. Joe Dirt is back with a vengeance, and a mop. Joe Dirt 2: Beautiful Loser also stars Academy Award winner Christopher Walken (Pulp Fiction, Seven Pyschopaths), Brittany Daniel (“The Game”), Dennis Miller (Disclosure), Adam Beach (Flags of Our Fathers). Patrick Warburton (“Rules of Engagement”), Mark McGrath (Sharknado 2), Charlotte McKinney (“Dancing with the Stars”) and Kevin Farley (The Waterboy). Joe Dirt 2: Beautiful Loser is written and directed by Fred Wolf (Joe Dirt, Grown Ups), who also produces alongside Spade through Happy Madison Productions and Lifeboat Productions.

I think I cringed more watching this trailer than laughed. Look the first film is a cult hit and I really enjoy it and I can watch it just about anytime it's on, but this film looks sad and desperate. I mean adding time travel to this type of film is such a stupid idea and this is one of those special cases where a film does not deserve or need a sequel. I didn't laugh one single time during the trailer and I'm just hoping that this film doesn't completely suck like some Happy Madison's other recent films.

With his American Sniper having brought in more than $543 million at the worldwide box office, four-time Academy Award winner Clint Eastwood (who just turned 85 this past Sunday) has signed on to direct another biopic for Warner Bros. Pictures. This time, Eastwood will tackle the story of Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberg, the American hero who, in 2009, successfully landed US Airways Flight 1549 in the Hudson River in what has famously become known as the Miracle on the Hudson. The film, which is at the moment without a title, will be based on Sullenberger’s 2009 autobiography, Highest Duty. Written with Jeffrey Zaslow, the book is described on Sullenberger’s official site as follows: On January 15, 2009, the world witnessed a remarkable emergency landing when Captain “Sully” Sullenberger skillfully glided US Airways Flight 1549 onto the Hudson River, saving the lives of all 155 aboard. His cool actions not only averted tragedy but made him a hero and an inspiration worldwide. Highest Duty is Sully’s story—a story of dedication, hope, and preparedness, revealing the important lessons he learned through childhood, in his military service, and in his work as a commercial airline pilot. It reminds us all that, even in these days of war, tragedy, and economic uncertainty, there are values still worth fighting for—that life’s challenges can be met if we’re ready for them. “I am very glad my story is in the hands of gifted storyteller and filmmaker Clint Eastwood, and veteran producers Allyn Stewart and Frank Marshall,” says Sullenberger of the feature film. “The project could not have found a better home than Warner Bros. Pictures. This is truly a dream team.” “Simply put, Clint Eastwood is at the top of his game, not to mention a global treasure,” adds Greg Silverman, Warner Bros. Pictures’ president of creative development and worldwide production. “On the heels of his extraordinary work in ‘American Sniper,’ it is tremendously exciting to see him explore the life of another captivating true-life hero. It is also great to be collaborating with Frank Marshall and Allyn Stewart to produce this compelling script by Todd Komarnicki.” Eastwood will also produce the film through his Malpaso Productions alongside Frank Marshall of Kennedy/Marshall and Allyn Stewart of Flashlight Films.

I think this is a great idea. Clint Eastwood is one of the best directors of all-time and he really hasn't had a dud other than Jersey Boys. A lot of people aren't fans of bio-pics, but I think they make for great films and they do tend to be obvious Oscar bait i.e. Captain Phillips or American Sniper, so I can see why people don't like them. This is a great story to tell and I think it will make for a great movie.
