My Review of the Insidious Franchise

With Insidious Chapter 3 being released this weekend, I thought it would be fitting to review the other films in the franchise. So without further ado...

As devoted parents Josh (played by Patrick Wilson) and Renai (played by Rose Byrne) struggle in vain to uncover the root cause of their son's condition, the stress of the situation gradually begins to take its toll on their once-strong relationship. Later, when darkness falls and specters appear to reach out for them from the shadows, the frightened parents realize they're dealing with powers beyond human comprehension.

This is a really great film. One of the things I ask of people trying to make original horror films is that you come up with a concept that nobody has thought of and take it to a level that horror films have never gone to and this film does just that. Now while every movie will borrow from other moives, this film takes those ideas and blend them into the story. James Wan and Leigh Wannell work well together to create an interesting and unique story. There are lot of moments that really scarred me and I wasn't able to sleep much after viewing the film. The one thing that really make or break the film is the performances because you have to be able to believe that the actors characters are in real danger and I never really got that feeling and some of the dialogue was a little choppy and unbelievable. Overall this is a great horror film and there a lot of scary moments, but some of those moments weren't believable and that's due to the performances being so bad. I give Insidious an 8 out of 10.

Insidious Chapter 2

The haunted Lambert family seeks to uncover the mysterious childhood secret that has left them dangerously connected to the spirit world.

This film is absolutely terrible. Horror and comedy sequels are the two hardest films to make simply because the first films were so great and the sequels have a lot to live up to when it comes to either laughs or scares. The film has no scares that are great or memorable. The film tries tell the same story with a different person haunted by the same spirits and it just doesn't work well at all. The performances are over the top and they just annoy me to know end.I will say that some points of the story are well done, but there is no consistent theme or story throughout the film Overall this was a letdown and it is just a complete mess. I give Insidious: Chapter 2 a 1 out of 10.

Overall Average Rating: 4.5 out of 10
