So I recently watched Clouds of Sils Maria and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado...
Maria Enders (played by Juliette Binoche) is an actress at the peak of her international career who is asked to perform in a revival of the play that made her famous twenty years earlier. Back then she played the role of Sigrid, an alluring young woman who disarms and eventually drives her boss Helena to suicide. Now she is being asked to step into the other role, that of the older Helena. She departs with her assistant (played by Kristen Stewart) to rehearse in Sils Maria, a remote region of the Alps. A young Hollywood starlet with a penchant for scandal (played by Chloë Grace Moretz) is to take on the role of Sigrid, and Maria finds herself on the other side of the mirror, face to face with an ambiguously charming woman who is, in essence, an unsettling reflection of herself.
This was actually a really great movie. The performances in film were fantastic and the real stand-out is Kristen Stewart and I never thought I would say that. She has improved as an actress and I honestly feel that she could get an Oscar nomination soon. The story is really powerful and it's fun. It's a mixed bag of tones and that takes me out of the film, but the story was interesting enough to keep my attention. I also loved the cinematography and the film just looks so beautiful and it's a spectacle to see. I'll also say that there is a lot of talking and I mean a lot of talking and it got annoying and I felt like the movie just didn't flow as well as it could've. Overall this was a fun and beautiful film, but it just wasn't as good as it could've been. I give Clouds of Sils Maria a 8 out of 10.
So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of Clouds of Sils Maria, what would you rate it and what did you think of my review? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
