4-1-15 Movie News

Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

(NOTE: All of these stories come from comingsoon.net)

Earlier this week, Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds expressed hopes that the film would be rated R. JoBlo followed that up earlier today with a report that Deadpool would be rated PG-13, to which Reynolds responded on Twitter. #deadpool – So we make the blood green. (Views expressed here are mine – not necessarily those of adorable, taint-punchers releasing films) — Ryan Reynolds (@VancityReynolds) April 1, 2015. In the spirit of the Merc with a Mouth, however, it was all a gag, as Joblo and Reynolds have debuted a new video from the set of the film confirming that Deadpool will in fact be rated R! Based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, Deadpool tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life. Ryan Reynolds will star in the title role of the film along with Ed Skrein, TJ Miller as Weasel, Gina Carano as Angel Dust, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, and Morena Baccarin as Copycat. The film will also feature the mutant Colossus, though Daniel Cudmore has confirmed he will not appear as the character. Tim Miller is set to direct the movie from a script by Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Deadpool is currently scheduled for a release on February 12, 2016.

This is great news to hear. Like I said yesterday Deadpool is an R-rated character and I think that and R-rated movie would be suit the character's core values. Look the studio would make a lot more money if the film was PG-13 because you would be able to draw in a younger crowd, but an R-rated movie will be so much better. I'm excited to hear this news and now I'm way more excited to see the movie.

Universal Pictures and Legendary Pictures have released a new trailer for Straight Outta Compton along with six new posters for the August 14 release and you can check them out below. In the mid-1980s, the streets of Compton, California, were some of the most dangerous in the country. When five young men translated their experiences growing up into brutally honest music that rebelled against abusive authority, they gave an explosive voice to a silenced generation. Following the meteoric rise and fall of N.W.A., Straight Outta Compton tells the astonishing story of how these youngsters revolutionized music and pop culture forever the moment they told the world the truth about life in the hood and ignited a cultural war. Starring O’Shea Jackson Jr., Corey Hawkins and Jason Mitchell as Ice Cube, Dr. Dre and Eazy-E, Straight Outta Compton is directed by F. Gary Gray (Friday, Set It Off, The Italian Job). The drama is produced by original N.W.A. members Ice Cube and Dr. Dre, who are joined by fellow producers Matt Alvarez and Tomica Woods-Wright. Will Packer serves as executive producer of the film alongside Gray.

This was an awesome and powerful trialer. It really dives into the group's personal lives just a little bit and it showed us a bit more of the movie. I really enjoy listening to N.W.A. and they are one of my favorite musicians of all-time. I think this film is going to be pretty amazing and I cannot wait to see it.

Kristen Stewart is the latest name to be tied to Ang Lee’s next, a big screen adaptation of Ben Fountain’s 2012 bestseller, Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk. TheWrap has the news, reporting that The Twilight Saga actress is eyeing the role of Kathryn Lynn (Billy’s older sister) opposite Joe Alwyn, Garrett Hedlund and Steve Martin. Meanwhile, Deadline reports that Ben Platt (Ricki and the Flash) has been cast in the role of Josh, a point person for the Dallas Cowboys. The film will tell the story of 19-year-old soldier Billy Lynn and his squad, who survive an Iraq battle that is captured by embedded news cameras, causing them to become celebrated as heroes. They are brought home by the US administration for a promotional tour that culminates at the halftime show of a Thanksgiving Day football game in Texas, before they are returned to the war. Almost the entire movie takes place during the game, with flashes away to other events. “I am very excited to be going back to work and to be collaborating with my old friend Tom Rothman,” Lee said in a statement last fall. “The most important thing to me is storytelling and ‘Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk’ is a story that immediately gripped me. I look forward to starting the creative process with this extraordinary team of collaborators.” Originally optioned by Film4 — who will produce alongside Lee, Ink Factory’s Stephen and Simon Cornwell and Rhodri Thomas — Fountain’s novel has been adapted by Simon Beaufoy, who took home an Academy Award for his work on Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire. Stewart, who recently starred in both Clouds of Sils Maria and Still Alice, can next be seen in director Nima Nourizadeh’s American Ultra, starring opposite Jesse Eisenberg.

This is pretty interesting casting. Look I'll be the first to admit that I don't like Kristen Stewart as an actress, but here recently sh has gotten on my good side with stellar performances in Camp X-Ray and Still Alice. I think this will be an interesting role and film for for and I'm curious to see how she works with Ang Lee. The film sounds really interesting with a pretty decent cast so far and I kind of want to check it out.

The Hollywood Reporter brings word today that Paramount Pictures has enlisted Section 6 screenwriter Aaron Berg to pen the upcoming G.I. Joe 3. Previous drafts for the film have been written by Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles‘ Evan Daugherty and Shooter‘s Jonathan Lemkin, though Berg will write an all-new script. D.J. Caruso is set to direct the film which will be produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura. Previous reports indicate the film was targeting a 2016 release, but this has not been confirmed. The live-action G.I. Joe film franchise was launched in 2009 with G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra, starring Channing Tatum, Marlon Wayans, Rachel Nichols, Sienna Miller, Byung-hun Lee, Ray Park, Dennis Quaid and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Tatum returned (albeit briefly) alongside Lee and Park for the sequel, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, released in early 2013. The followup also stared Dwayne Johnson, Bruce Willis, Adrianne Palicki, Ray Stevenson and Jonathan Pryce. Collectively, the pair of films have grossed more than $675 million at the worldwide box office.

This is a pretty interesting choice. This guy hasn't done anything film wise other than Section 6 and that's it. This is the first big film for the guy and I'm curious to see if he's up for the challenge. The first film was ok and the second was slightly better, but not enough to keep me interested and I'm hoping this film will do better than it's predecessor.

Currently in production in Atlanta, Paramount Pictures’ upcoming horror franchise sequel Rings has added “The Big Bang Theory” star Johnny Galecki to its cast. According to Deadline, Galecki will a “pleasure seeking” professor named Gabriel who serves as a mentor to Alex Roe and Matilda Lutz’s characters. Rings stars Alex Roe as Holt, a young man who begins to become distant from his girlfriend, Julia (Lutz) after watching the infamous deadly videotape the series is known for. Released in 2002, The Ring was an English-language remake of Hideo Nakata’s 1998 supernatural thriller, Ringu, which told the story of a videotape of ghostly imagery that causes anyone who watches it to die seven days later. Ringu was followed by three Japanese sequels, while the Verbinski version received its own 2005 sequel directed by Nakata, titled The Ring Two. F. Javier Gutiérrez, best known for helming Before the Fall, is directing Rings, with Academy Award-winning screenwriter Akiva Goldsman rewriting the sequel draft by David Loucka. The film also stars Aimee Teegarden and is set for a November 13 release.

This is great casting. Look I know a lot of people think The Big Bang Theory is a little overrated and I can see that, but I still like the show. This also isn't Galecki's first horror film. He was in I Know What You Did Last Summer. I think this is an interesting choice and I can't wait to see how he does in the movie.
