4-21-15 Movie News

Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

(NOTE: All of these stories come from comingsoon.net)

Walt Disney Pictures has released a new Tomorrowland trailer featuring brand-new footage from the Brad Bird-directed film. Check it out in the player below! In addition, Disney has officially announced that a special presentation of the film, featuring more than six minutes of footage to be introduced by director Brad Bird, will screen exclusively in IMAX theatres domestically and in select international markets beginning May 1. The extended first look of Tomorrowland will screen directly prior to Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron and will play for the duration of that film’s run in IMAX. From Disney comes two-time Oscar winner Brad Bird’s Tomorrowland, hitting theaters May 22, a riveting mystery adventure starring Academy Award-winner George Clooney. Bound by a shared destiny, former boy-genius Frank (Clooney), jaded by disillusionment, and Casey (Britt Robertson), a bright, optimistic teen bursting with scientific curiosity, embark on a danger-filled mission to unearth the secrets of an enigmatic place somewhere in time and space known only as “Tomorrowland.” What they must do there changes the world – and them – forever. Featuring a screenplay by “Lost” writer and co-creator Damon Lindelof and Brad Bird, from a story by Lindelof & Bird & Jeff Jensen, Tomorrowland promises to take audiences on a thrill ride of nonstop adventures through new dimensions that have only been dreamed of. The film also stars Hugh Laurie as brilliant scientist David Nix, Raffey Cassidy, Tim McGraw, Judy Greer, Kathryn Hahn, Keegan-Michael Key and Thomas Robinson. Tomorrowland is produced by Damon Lindelof, Brad Bird and Jeffrey Chernov and directed by Brad Bird, with John Walker, Bernard Bellew, Jeff Jensen and Brigham Taylor serving as executive producers.

This was an awesome trailer. It was full of action which we hadn't seen from any of the other trailers and this one had a lot of George Clooney. The film looks so beautiful and I think it has a shot at the visual effects and cinematography Oscar next year. It looks like the film will have a lot of action and I think it has a lot of potential to be one of the best films of the year.

The final major role left to be cast, Walt Disney Pictures’ live-action Beauty and the Beast has found its Lumiere! According to a story today at The Hollywood Reporter, Ewan McGregor will play the animated candlestick opposite the previously-announced Ian McKellen as Cogsworth. The feature is also set to star the Harry Potter franchise’s Emma Watson as Belle, The Guest‘s Dan Stevens as Beast, Dracula Untold and The Hobbit‘s Luke Evans as Gaston, Frozen and “The Book of Mormon’s” Josh Gad as LeFou, Kevin Kline as Maurice (Belle’s father), Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Plumette, the feather duster. Eight-time Oscar-winner Alan Menken, who won two Academy Awards for the 1991 animated classic, will score the film, which will feature new recordings of the original songs in addition to several new songs written by Menken and Sir Tim Rice. Bill Condon will direct from a script by Stephen Chbosky, and the film will be produced by Mandeville Films’ David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman. McGregor recently starred in Mortdecai and can be seen coming up reteaming with his Star Wars co-star Natalie Portman in the western Jane Got a Gun. Production will begin next month at Shepperton Studios in London.

This is terrific casting. Ewan McGregor is an amazing actor and I think he fits the role perfectly.  was hoping for Sasha Baron Cohen, but I think Ewan McGregor will do a great job in the role. This cast is one best I've ever seen and I don't think there is anyway this film can go wrong.

Speaking of Beauty and the Beast, Variety now reports that Stanley Tucci has signed on to play a role created specifically for the new film. According to the trade, the Hunger Games franchise star will play a grand piano named Cadenza who, in their words, is “a neurotic maestro”. Tucci, who was nominated for an Academy Award for his performance in Peter Jackson’s The Lovely Bones, can soon be seen in Thomas McCarthy’s Spotlight before reprising his role as Caesar Flickerman for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2.

I thought Ewan McGregor was a great casting choice, but this one is way better. Stanley Tucci is an Oscar nominated actor and adding him to any film is a great idea. Like I said the casting for the film has been spot on and there are a few minor parts to be filled like the Babette, Chip and Wardrobe and I think those will be announced in the coming days. I'm already in love with the film and I cannot wait to see it.

Paramount Pictures, New Regency and Plan B Entertainment today announced that production is officially underway in New Orleans on The Big Short, which is confirmed to star Christian Bale (American Hustle, The Dark Knight trilogy), Steve Carell (Foxcatcher, “The Office”), Ryan Gosling (Drive, Crazy, Stupid, Love) and Brad Pitt (Fury, World War Z). Adam McKay (Anchorman, The Other Guys) is directing with a supporting cast that includes Melissa Leo (The Fighter, Frozen River) and Marisa Tomei (Crazy, Stupid, Love, The Wrestler). The Big Short is also written by McKay, from a script by Charles Randolph (Love and Other Drugs), based on Michael Lewis’ bestselling non-fiction book “The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine.” It tells the remarkable true story of the genius contrarian investors who, recognizing just how insane the housing bubble had become, figured out how to “short” the market prior to the financial collapse of 2008. Rounding out the cast is Tracy Letts (“Homeland,” Elvis & Nixon), Hamish Linklater (“The Newsroom,” 42), John Magaro (Unbroken, Not Fade Away), Byron Mann (The Man with the Iron Fists, Rise of the Legend), Rafe Spall (Life of Pi, Prometheus), Jeremy Strong (Selma, Zero Dark Thirty) and Finn Wittrock (Unbroken, “American Horror Story”). The movie will be produced by Academy Award winners Pitt, Dede Gardner (Selma, 12 Years a Slave) and Jeremy Kleiner (Selma, 12 Years a Slave) via their Plan B Entertainment banner.

This is an awesome cast and I'm glad to hear that the film is in production. I mean you have 6 Academy Award nominated actors with three having won an Oscar (Bale, Leo and Tomei) and putting them on screen together is a fantastic idea. The film also sounds really interesting and I think it has a lot of Oscar potential and I can't wait to see it.

Johnny Depp has today returned to the Australian set of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales following an injury last month that temporarily halted production. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer shared the good news of Depp’s return today via social media, posting the below picture to his official Twitter account from the new high seas adventure.

“Dead Men Tell No Tales” is directed by Espen Sandberg and Joachim Rønning (Kon-Tiki) and is filming entirely at Village Roadshow Studios and on locations within Queensland, Australia. Johnny Depp returns to his iconic, Academy Award-nominated role as Captain Jack Sparrow, newly joined by Oscar winner Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men, Skyfall), rising young stars Kaya Scodelario (The Maze Runner, “Skins”) and Brenton Thwaites (Maleficent, The Giver), and Golshifteh Farahani (The Patience Stone, Exodus: Gods and Kings). Rejoining the action are Academy Award winner Geoffrey Rush as Barbossa, Kevin R. McNally as Joshamee Gibbs and Stephen Graham as Scrum. Thrust into an all-new adventure, a down-on-his-luck Captain Jack Sparrow finds the winds of ill-fortune blowing even more strongly when deadly ghost pirates led by his old nemesis, the terrifying Captain Salazar (Bardem), escape from the Devil’s Triangle, determined to kill every pirate at sea…including him. Captain Jack’s only hope of survival lies in seeking out the legendary Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that bestows upon its possessor total control over the seas. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is produced by Bruckheimer and written by Jeff Nathanson (Catch Me If You Can, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull). The executive producers are Chad Oman, Joe Caracciolo, Jr. and Brigham Taylor. Look for it to hit theaters July 7, 2017.

Look I'll be honest with you I could care less about the movie or the photo. I mean we've seen the shot before IN EVERY OTHER FILM IN THE FRANCHISE! These film have gone completely downhill since the franchise started. I know the films have and audience I mean the last two films are two of only 20 films to cross the billion dollar mark. I know a lot of people that like these movies and that's fine because all film is subjective, but I every film they make gets worse for me and they just need to stop. I can't do anything about the film happening, so I just have let life take its course.
