Weekend Movie News 11-7-14 to 11-9-14

Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

(NOTE: All of these stories come from comingsoon.net)

The sequel loosely teased for some time, The Walt Disney Company's Chairman and CEO Bob Iger today revealed during an earnings conference call that Toy Story 4 is on the way! John Lasseter, who directed the original and who now serves as Chief Creative Officer for all three of Disney's animation studios, will direct! Although officially unconfirmed at this time, it's just about a certainty that Toy Story 4 will feature the return of Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack and the rest of the hit franchise's diverse voice talent.

Toy Story 3, released in 2010, grossed more than $1 billion worldwide. It has since been followed by a series of television specials continuing the adventures of Andy's toys. Toy Story of TERROR! premiered last year while Toy Story That Time Forgot is set to air on December 2. “We love these characters so much; they are like family to us," says Lasseter. “We don’t want to do anything with them unless it lives up to or surpasses what’s gone before. 'Toy Story 3' ended Woody and Buzz’s story with Andy so perfectly that for a long time, we never even talked about doing another 'Toy Story' movie. But when Andrew, Pete, Lee, and I came up with this new idea, I just could not stop thinking about it. It was so exciting to me, I knew we had to make this movie — and I wanted to direct it myself.”

I honestly don't know how to feel about this news. On one hand I'm really excited to see these characters back on the big screen one more time. On the other hand I'm upset that it is happening because the 3rd film ended on such a perfect note and there really is no need for a 4th film. Now I understand that the 3rd film made a billion dollars and you want to capitalize on that success, but there is also a possibility that you won't match that total again.

David Ayer's DC Comics adaptation Suicide Squad has, according to recent reports, targeted high profile talent like Ryan Gosling, Tom Hardy, Margot Robbie and Will Smith with subsequent reports claiming that the studio is also keen on adding Jesse Eisenberg as his Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice antagonist, Lex Luthor. Now TheWrap claims that the Academy Award-winning Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club) -- said to have been in the running for Marvel Studios' Doctor Strange -- is being eyed to play The Joker!

Created by Robert Kanigher and Ross Andru back in 1959, the Suicide Squad team has included countless DC villains among its ranks, including Deadshot, Captain Boomerang, Bane, Killer Frost, Poison Ivy, Count Vertigo, Deathstroke, and Harley Quinn. The CW's "Arrow" introduced their own version of the team in the most recent season of the series and the recent animated film, Batman: Assault on Arkham, offered another version of the team.

The line-up for "Task Force X" in the upcoming film is rumored to include the super strong Blockbuster, the self-replicating Multiplex, the speedster Jaculi, the illusion-casting Mindboggler, the original Captain Boomerang George Harkness, the animal mimicker Vixen, and Floyd Lawton aka Deadshot. If the Joker is part of the story (even if Leto doesn't ultimately take the role), his appearance would mark the first time the character has appeared on the big screen since The Dark Knight, wherein the late Heath Ledger won an Academy Award for what turned out to be his final full performance. Suicide Squad is currently set for release on August 5, 2016.

This is really interesting. If this becomes true then I am all in on the casting. As most of you know Jared Leto is an Academy Award winning actor and honestly he looks perfect for the role of The Joker. I honestly didn't know who I wanted to play The Joker after Heath Ledger's outstanding performance (for which he won an Oscar for), but now I want this to happen very badly.

Matt Damon has confirmed a recent report that he will return for a fifth installment in the Bourne franchise, to again be directed by Paul Greengrass. Talking to E! News along with Ben Affleck (upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice), the two gave an update. "Well, [Damon's] going to be doing a Bourne movie next fall when I've just completely lost any semblance of physical fitness. So...," Affleck said. Damon added that "it'll be in 2016 when the movie will actually come out. [Director] Paul Greengrass is going to do another one and that's all I ever said. I just needed him to say yes." It was previously reported that the new film will take the July 15, 2016 release date originally assigned to a different Bourne sequel. That film, a big screen follow-up to The Bourne Legacy with Jeremy Renner in the lead, will remain in development for release at another time.

I'm really glad to hear Matt Damon say this. All we needed was a confirmation that it was happening and now we've gotten that. I've really enjoyed all of the films in the franchise so far and I cannot wait to see this film.

Back in 2013, it was revealed that the fan-favorite PlayStation franchise Ratchet & Clank would be making its way onto the big screen in 2015. Now, Rainmaker Entertainment and Blockade Entertainment have debuted the first official poster for the film which you can check out below. The film is based on the Insomniac Games franchise. The games focus on two unlikely heroes as they struggle to stop a vile alien named Chairman Drek from destroying every planet in the Solana Galaxy. Ratchet is the last of his kind, a foolhardy "lombax" who has grown up alone on a backwater planet with no family of his own, while Clank is a pint-sized robot with more brains than brawn.

The Ratchet and Clank characters were first introduced in 2002, with the games quickly becoming a successful series exclusive to Sony's PlayStation consoles. They've sold 26 million copies worldwide. The most recent installment, Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault< was released in late 2012, but a "re-imagining" of the original game is set to be released in the first half of 2015 alongside the film. Directed by Jericca Cleland from a script by TJ Fixman (who penned all of the video games), Ratchet & Clank will feature James A. Taylor and David Kaye reprising their voice roles as the titular characters.

I really like this poster. It's just a plain and simple poster that does it's job in getting people interested in the film. All I know is that a trailer will be coming soon. I really enjoyed playing the games and I'm really curious to see the film.

TWC-Dimension has released the new domestic trailer for Paddington which you can watch below. From the beloved novels by Michael Bond and producer David Heyman ("Harry Potter" films), Paddington tells the story of the comic misadventures of a young Peruvian bear (voiced by Ben Whishaw) who travels to the city in search of a home. Finding himself lost and alone, he begins to realize that city life is not all he had imagined - until he meets the kindly Brown family who read the label around his neck that says "Please look after this bear. Thank you," and offer him a temporary haven. It looks as though his luck has changed until this rarest of bears catches the eye of a museum taxidermist. Directed by Paul King (Bunny and the Bull), Paddington also stars Hugh Bonneville, Nicole Kidman, Sally Hawkins, Jim Broadbent, Julie Walters, Michael Gambon, and Imelda Staunton. The film will be released in North America on January 16, 2015.

This was a pretty nice little trailer. Now it does give a lot away, but it still had a few funny and interesting moments. I will also say that I am a little creeped out by the CGI bear. I really enjoyed Paddington Bear as a little kid and I cannot wait to see the film.
