11-13-14 Movie News

Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

(NOTE: All of these stories come from comingsoon.net)

According to The Daily Mail columnist Baz Bamigboye, two-time Academy Award winner Christoph Waltz is set to play the antagonist in Sam Mendes still-untitled Bond 24. There, he joins Daniel Craig, Léa Seydoux, Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, Ben Whishaw and Dave Bautista. The new film, set for release on November 6, 2016, will again be directed by Mendes, who helmed Skyfall as well. Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson will produce. Waltz, who took home Oscars for his performances in both Inglourious Basterds and Django Unchained, can next be seen in Horrible Bosses 2 before starring Amy Adams in Tim Burton's Big Eyes. He's also set to star opposite Alexander Skarsgard in 2016's Tarzan, arriving from Warner Brothers Pictures and four-time Harry Potter helmer David Yates.

If this is true then this is spectacular casting. Christoph Waltz is a two time Academy Award winning actor and he has the look and personality (if you've seen Inglorious Bastards) to pull off a Bond villain. I'm hoping he comes on board becuase he has the potential to be one of the best Bond villains yet. I was already looking forward to the film, but with this news I'm even more excited.

Marvel Studios has partnered up with Samsung to bring us a brand new extended trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron, which features quite a bit of new footage from the highly-anticipated sequel and you can check it out below. When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to The Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans, and soon uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for an epic and unique global adventure. Avengers: Age of Ultron stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Samuel L. Jackson, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, James Spader, Cobie Smulders, Thomas Kretschmann, Paul Bettany and Stellan Skarsgard. The Joss Whedon-directed film will debut in theaters on May 1, 2015.

I really liked the trailer. Now it's pretty much the same as the previous trailer with just a few new scenes added in. I don't mind when films do this because they keep with the same basis and don't' reveal too much of the film. I just hope we don't see another trailer for the film until at least the Super Bowl because I don't want to have another marketing disaster like The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Jai Courtney, best known for his performance in A Good Day to Die Hard as the son of Bruce Willis' John McClane, is reportedly up for the role of the DC Comics mercenary Deadshot in David Ayer's bad guy team-up Suicide Squad. Variety has the news, claiming that Tom Hardy, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie and Will Smith all still remain in talks as well. Created by Robert Kanigher and Ross Andru back in 1959, the Suicide Squad team has included countless DC villains among its ranks, including Deadshot, Captain Boomerang, Bane, Killer Frost, Poison Ivy, Count Vertigo, Deathstroke, and Harley Quinn. The CW's "Arrow" introduced their own version of the team in the most recent season of the series and the recent animated film, Batman: Assault on Arkham, offered another version of the team. Recently played by Michael Rowe on "Arrow," Floyd Lawton is the true identity of Deadshot. Although Lawton doesn't have any superhuman abilities per se, his extreme skill set makes him one of the most deadly assassins in the DC Universe. As previously reported, Robbie is up for the part of Harley Quinn while Leto would portray the Clown Prince of Crime himself, The Joker. Suicide Squad is slated to hit theaters August 5, 2016.

I don't know how I feel about this rumor. I mean Jai Courtney is a very talented actor, but we only have a very small sample size from him. It really depends on how he does in Unbroken (which looks to be an Oscar contender) and Terminator Genisys  before I can really judge how I feel about him for the role. All I know is Suicide Squad could be shaping up to be brilliant.

Hot on the heels of the trailer's debut during tonight's episode of "Scandal" on ABC, Focus Features has brought online the new trailer for Fifty Shades of Grey and you can check it below. Opening in theaters on February 13, 2015, the Sam Taylor-Johnson-directed adaptation stars Jamie Dornan, Dakota Johnson, Jennifer Ehle, Luke Grimes, Victor Rasuk, Eloise Mumford, Max Martini, Rita Ora, Marcia Gay Harden and Callum Keith Rennie. Fifty Shades of Grey has become a global phenomenon and the trilogy has been translated in over 50 languages worldwide since its release. To date, the “Fifty Shades” trilogy has sold over 70 million copies worldwide in e-book and print, making it one of the fastest-selling book series ever. "Fifty Shades of Grey" (first published in 2011) follows the relationship of 27-year-old billionaire Christian Grey and college student Anastasia Steele. Subsequent novels in the series, "Fifty Shades Darker" (2011) and "Fifty Shades Freed" (2012) explore the couple’s deepening relationship.

This film looks stupid. Listen I'm not a fan of the books whatsoever and I honestly could care less about the film. Both trailers have been horrible and I hate the fact that I have to see the movie next year.

Columbia Pictures has just released the trailer for their upcoming comedy sequel, Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 and you can check it out below. In this sequel, Kevin James reprises the role of security guard Paul Blart and heads to Las Vegas to attend a Security Guard Expo with his teenage daughter Maya (Raini Rodriguez) before she departs for college. While at the convention, he inadvertently discovers a heist – and it’s up to Blart to apprehend the criminals. Also starring Molly Shannon, David Henrie, Eduardo Verastegui, Nicholas Turturro, Gary Valentine and Neal McDonough, Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 is directed by Andy Fickman and features a screenplay by James and Nick Bakay. Look for it in theaters April 17, 2015.

I actually enjoyed this trailer. It does have a lot of funny moments, but the some of the jokes look to be hi and miss for me and some of them are rehashed from the first film (notably the ending sequence). I really enjoyed the first film and I'm actually looking forward to this film.
