Weekend Movie News 11-14-14 to 11-16-14

Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

(NOTE: All of these stories come from comingsoon.net)

Earlier this week, word broke that Universal Pictures is interested in signing four-time The Fast and the Furious helmer Justin Lin to an eighth chapter in the action ensemble franchise. Although some outlets speculated that this eight film would mark a franchise capper, Universal Pictures Chairman Donna Langley today tells The Hollywood Reporter (via /Film) that The Fast and the Furious aren't likely to hit the finish line anytime soon."We think there's at least three more," says Langley. "...I think it's still a growing franchise. We'll see what happens with 'Furious 7,' obviously, but our box office has grown over the past three or four films and internationally, in particular. So we think that there's more to mine there. But we're of course very mindful about fatigue." Starring Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, Elsa Pataky and Lucas Black, Furious 7 races into theaters on April 3, 2015.

This is great news to hear. I'm a huge fan of The Fast and The Furious franchise and to hear that there are at least 3 more films in the pipeline makes me really excited. There have been rumors up up to 10 films being in the franchise in total so this makes since. Plus I don't honestly see why Universal would want to stop when they are raking in the cash from this franchise. All I know is I'm excited to see Furious 7 and I can't wait to see what the future holds.

Daniel Bruhl has joined the cast of Captain America: Civil War in a mystery role! Bruhl's credits include Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds, Bill Condon's The Fifth Estate and, opposite Marvel Cinematic Universe star Chris Hemsworth, Ron Howard's Rush. Bruhl joins the returning Chris Evans (in the title role), Robert Downey, Jr. (reprising his role as Tony Stark) and the recently-revealed Chadwick Boseman (debuting as the Black Panther) for Civil War, set to be directed by The Winter Soldier's sibling team of Joe and Anthony Russo. Look for it to hit theaters May 6, 2016. "With Daniel's ability to deliver intense, nuanced performances, we knew we had found yet another great actor to share the screen with some of our biggest heroes," said Marvel President Kevin Feige.

This is amazing casting. Daniel Bruhl is an amazing actor and he was robbed of an Oscar nomination at this past years Oscars for his work on Rush. Marvel and DC have been having a battle when it comes to casting and Marvel the advantage now so its time for DC to make an announcement and I can feel one coming soon. I'm just really glad to see Bruhl in a Marvel film and I can't wait to see who he'll be playing.

Like no filmic entity before it, corporate synergy is the name of the game at Marvel Studios, which is why many assumed that the inclusion of Guardians of the Galaxy footage during their big Avengers: Infinity War unveiling in October indicated that Star-Lord and co. were on their way to playing a major role in the conflict against Thanos. Not necessarily so, says James Gunn, who told MTV that Guardians of the Galaxy 2 will not pave the way for the encroaching battle over the Infinity Gauntlet. "I don’t feel beholden to that stuff at all," Gunn said. "I think it's really about the Guardians and what they are doing. We're not subservient to the Avengers. 'Guardians 2' is not a movie that's made to move toward 'Infinity War.' It's something that's made to move toward future cosmic movies, so I don't feel that that is something that affects me that much."

Prior to the release of Guardians in August, Gunn told Sky Movies that he and Marvel had "talked about all sorts of possibilities for a crossover," and that he knew "what the basic plan is... it could always change at any minute." "That could or could not include a couple of Avengers and a couple of Guardians meeting up, or all of the Avengers and all of the Guardians," he added during the July interview. "But, we do inhabit the same universe and they're pretty big personalities that are likely to, at some point or another, run into each other." To be written and directed by James Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy 2 will once again feature Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, and Bradley Cooper as unlikely heroes who must team up in order to defeat a cosmic force of epic proportions. It will be released on May 5, 2017.

I really like these comments. They show that Feige is letting James Gunn do his own thing while keeping everything connected, but also making the Guardians have their own little side universe going on at the same time the main storyline is going full steam ahead. I really enjoyed the first Guardians film and I don't know if I can wait til 2017 for the second film.

Jude Law has, according to a story today at Variety, signed on to play the unnamed villain at the center of Guy Ritchie's King Arthur. Law previously appeared in both of Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes films. In King Arthur, he joins Charlie Hunnam (Pacific Rim) in the title role with Astrid Berges-Frisbey (Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) set to play Guinevere. Already scheduled for a July 22, 2016 release, King Arthur is was written by Joby Harold, who is producing with Akiva Goldsman, Tory Tunnell and Ritchie himself. Cate Adams and Niija Kuykendall are overseeing for Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow.

This spectacular casting. Law is an underrated actor and putting him togehter with Guy Ritchie again sounds like it could work out very well. The film also feels like a great fit for Law to help move his career along. I'm a big fan of the story behind King Arthur and I cannot wait to see what Guy Ritchie does with it.

Hot on the heels of a report earlier this week claiming both Anna Kendrick and J.K. Simmons are eyeing roles, TheWrap brings word that John Bernthal is now said to be targeting The Accountant, the Gavin O'Connor-helmed action thriller set up at Warner Bros. Based on the script by Bill DuBuque, The Accountant centers on a mild-mannered accountant who moonlights as a lethal assassin. Bernthal, well known for playing Shane on "The Walking Dead," recently appeared in Fury, the World War II thriller also starring Brad Pitt, Shia LaBeouf, Michael Pena and Logan Lerman.

This is great casting Jon Benthal has been acting for a while, but he is just now getting familiar with audiences and with his personality this film fits him perfectly . From what I know about the film and the cast that has been assembled so far (Ben Affleck is in the film but he wasn't mentioned above) this sounds like it could be an amazing film and I cannot wait to see it.
