11-4-14 Movie News

Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

(NOTE: All of these stories come from comingsoon.net)

It was announced just yesterday that Christian Bale has decided not to play the lead role of Steve Jobs in director Danny Boyle's upcoming, still-untitled biopic. Today, Deadline is reporting that Boyle may have already found a replacement: Frank and X-Men: Days of Future Past star Michael Fassbender. At this time, however, Fassbender officially signing on is far from a sure thing. Based on Walter Isaacson's biography and boasting an adapted screenplay by Aaron Sorkin, the new Jobs biopic recently revealed that Seth Rogen is in talks to play Steve Wozniak, although it is now uncertain what direction the film will take in Bale's absence.

If true then this would be solid casting. Now granted I said Christian Bale was perfect for the role, but now that he's departed Michael Fassbender seems to be the obvious choice. I think that Fassbender is also perfect for the role and he's an Academy award nominated actor that has the talent to get nominated for another Oscar, but could very well win one.

It surprised many last summer when the credits finished up on Man of Steel and there was no scene giving fans just a tease of what might be coming soon. As the first entry in their own cinematic universe, it seemed like a no brainer for Warner Bros. to include a post-credit tag like their primary competition Marvel Studios, but alas it wasn't there. Now we know why. In an extensive piece at The Guardian on director Christopher Nolan, who served as a producer on Man of Steel, the outlet reveals that the studio asked director Zack Snyder to include a humorous scene at the end of the film, which Nolan reportedly shot down, saying: "A real movie wouldn't do that." Warner Bros.' next film in their shared universe is Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which won't open in theaters until March 25, 2016, but immediately following that film are nine more DC Comics-based films including Justice League Part One and Part Two, both set to be directed by Zack Snyder.

These comments don't actually shock me at all. We all know how Nolan is about the seriousness of his films and if he thinks post-credit scene is stupid then he has earned the right to not have one. As for myslef I do happen to like them simply becuase they give a little tease to a future movie and gets the excitement flowing. However with Nolan not being involved with the near future of the DC cinematic universe there may be a few post-credit scenes just to help build the future of the universe.

Sony Pictures has revealed the trailer for Neill Blomkamp's Chappie, the March 6, 2015 release starring Sharlto Copley, Dev Patel, Ninja and Yo-Landi Vi$$er, Jose Pablo Cantillo, Sigourney Weaver and Hugh Jackman. Every child comes into the world full of promise, and none more so than Chappie: he is gifted, special, a prodigy. Like any child, Chappie will come under the influence of his surroundings - some good, some bad - and he will rely on his heart and soul to find his way in the world and become his own man. But there's one thing that makes Chappie different from anyone else: he is a robot. The first robot with the ability to think and feel for himself. His life, his story, will change the way the world looks at robots and humans forever.

This was a pretty cool trailer. The looks really fun and it looks like Neil Blomkamp has returned to form. Now the film does favor Short Circuit 2 a lot, but I think that Blomkamp will put enough originality into the film to make it stand on it's own.

The first trailer for Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment's Minions is here and you can check it out below. Arriving on the big screen July 10, 2015, this Despicable Me spinoff begins at the dawn of time. Starting as single-celled yellow organisms, Minions evolve through the ages, perpetually serving the most despicable of masters. Continuously unsuccessful at keeping these masters--from T. rex to Napoleon--the Minions find themselves without someone to serve and fall into a deep depression.

But one Minion named Kevin has a plan, and he--alongside teenage rebel Stuart and lovable little Bob--ventures out into the world to find a new evil boss for his brethren to follow. The trio embarks upon a thrilling journey that ultimately leads them to their next potential master, Scarlet Overkill (Academy Award winner Sandra Bullock), the world's first-ever female super-villain. They travel from frigid Antarctica to 1960s New York City, ending in mod London, where they must face their biggest challenge to date: saving all of Minionkind... from annihilation.

This was a fun trailer. First off I love the minions and they are the best part of both Despicable Me movies and it's not surprising that they are getting their own film. However the one thing I didn't like about the trailer was that it showed a lot of footage in a 3 minute span and it may ruin the movie. But I am still going to give the film a shot and I cannot wait to see it.

Principal photography has begun on Millennium Films and Focus Features' London Has Fallen, the sequel to last year's hit Olympus Has Fallen. Gerard Butler again stars as Secret Service agent Mike Banning, alongside Aaron Eckhart as the President of the United States. Also returning are Morgan Freeman as Vice President Trumbull, Angela Bassett as Secret Service Director Lynne Jacobs, and Melissa Leo as Defense Secretary Ruth McMillan. Babak Najafi (Snabba Cash II) directs the thriller from a screenplay by Creighton Rothenberger & Katrin Benedikt (Olympus Has Fallen), Christian Gudegast and Chad St. John.

The story begins in London, where the British Prime Minister has passed away under mysterious circumstances. His funeral is a must-attend event for leaders of the western world. However, what starts out as the most protected event on Earth turns into a deadly plot to kill the world's most powerful leaders, devastate every known landmark in the British capital, and unleash a terrifying vision of the future. Only three people have any hope of stopping it: the President of the United States, his formidable Secret Service head (Butler), and an English MI-6 agent who rightly trusts no one.

Reprising their roles in support are Robert Forster as General Edward Clegg, Sean O'Bryan as NSA Deputy Director Ray Monroe, and Radha Mitchell as Leah Banning. Joining the returning cast members are Jackie Earle Haley, Alon Aboutboul, Charlotte Riley, and Waleed Zuaiter. Focus Features will release London Has Fallen theatrically nationwide on October 2, 2015.

This sounds like a really cool plot. Now was I a huge fan of Olympus Has Fallen... no, but I did prefer it over Whit House Down. I really like that they are moive to a new city, but it alos seems predictable. The only reason why am a little excited for the film is because Jackie Earle Haley is apart of the film and I;m curious to see what his role will be. Hopefully I'm not disappointed by his role or the film itself.
