My Review of The Homesman

So I recently watched The Homesman and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado...

When three women living on the edge of the American frontier are driven mad by harsh pioneer life, the task of saving them falls to the pious, independent-minded Mary Bee Cuddy (played by Hilary Swank). Transporting the women by covered wagon to Iowa, she soon realizes just how daunting the journey will be, and employs a low-life drifter, George Briggs (played by Tommy Lee Jones), to join her. The unlikely pair and the three women (played by Grace Gummer, Miranda Otto, Sonja Richter) head east, where a waiting minister and his wife (played by Meryl Streep) have offered to take the women in. But the group first must traverse the harsh Nebraska Territories marked by stark beauty, psychological peril and constant threat.

This was a pretty decent film. Tommy Lee Jones does a wonderful job of directing his second film and if it were in a different year it may have been an Oscar contender. He also gives an amazing performances as well as Hillary Swank. It also has some very beautiful cinematogrpahy and it really captures the western frontier very well. My problem with the film is that the tones shifts so much that you really don't get a good feel for what the film is trying to do. Also Hillary Swank isn't on screen hardly at all and it really takes away from her performance and you really tend to not care what happens to her character throughout the film. Overall it has talented performances, but with some many different tones you don't get a good feel for the film. I give The Homesman a 6.5 out of 10.

So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of The Homesman, what would you rate it and what did you think of my review? Let me know in the comment section below and let your voice be heard.
