11-17-14 Movie News

Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

(NOTE: All of these stories come from comingsoon.net

After The LEGO Movie debuted to critical acclaim and dominated the box office for the entire month of February, it was no surprise when Warner Bros. started zeroing in on sequels and spin-offs, turning the film into a fully-formed franchised. Release dates have already been set for a follow-up to the original film, but also a Batman spin-off, a Ninjago standalone film, and fourth untitled LEGO movie, all of which will be released annually beginning in 2016. What can we expect from the sequel to highest-grossing animated film of 2014? Directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller say more female characters for one thing. "It's important to us that the movie plays broadly and that we inspire young women as much as we inspire young men," Lord told the BBC. "I don't want to give spoilers," Miller teased. "But there will be more female characters and more female stuff... There's been a real shortage of [female protagonists] in recent years and I think that the near future will be very different." The LEGO Movie, despite featuring countless identifiable characters on screen, only featured three major female roles including Elizabeth Banks as Wyldstyle, Allison Brie as Unikitty, and Cobie Smulders as Wonder Woman. It's unclear who will be in the sequel though, as Lord and Miller reveal, they've only scratched the surface on the script. "You would think there would be be more pieces in place but all we've written is 'Fade in..,'" said Lord.

This is great news. There has been an abundance of female characters is film here lately and seeing more females in this type of film will do good. It also follows along with the ending of the film in which the boy is told by his father that his little sister gets to play with the LEGO's. But I'm really excited to hear this and I cannot wait to see who they introduce.

20th Century Fox has debuted (via USA Today) new images from The Peanuts Movie, coming to theaters on November 6, 2015. and you can check them out below. For the first time ever, Snoopy, Charlie Brown and the rest of the gang we know and love from Charles Schulz's timeless "Peanuts" comic strip will be making their big-screen debut; like they've never been seen before in a CG-animated feature film in 3D. The most popular and influential comic strip of all time, "Peanuts" was read every day by 355 million people in 75 countries. In addition to the famous strip, "Peanuts" holiday television specials such as "It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" have won Emmy's and continue to be among the highest rated prime time TV specials.

I really like these images. They give us more of a peak at what the film will look like and I have to say I really love the images. I'm a huge fan of the Peanuts and to get to see them on the big screen in a 3d animation film really excites me.

Warner Bros. has just released the above banner for Paul Thomas Anderson's latest, Inherent Vice, showing off a stylish look at the film's ensemble cast. Marking the first-ever adaptation of one of Pynchon's novels, Inherent Vice begins when when private eye Doc Sportello's ex-old lady suddenly out of nowhere shows up with a story about her current billionaire land developer boyfriend whom she just happens to be in love with, and a plot by his wife and her boyfriend to kidnap that billionaire and throw him in a loony bin... well, easy for her to say. Starring Joaquin Phoenix, Josh Brolin, Owen Wilson, Katherine Waterston, Reese Witherspoon, Benicio Del Toro, Martin Short, Jena Malone and Joanna Newson, Inherent Vice hits theaters on December 12.

This is a really nice banner. The colors and the style paints a great picture and the type of film we are getting and when it is taking place. The film has an A-list cast full of Oscar winners and nominees and it could make some noise at the upcoming Oscars and I'm really excited to see this film.

Jon M. Chu, the two-time Step Up franchise helmer who has gone on to direct films like G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Justin Bieber: Never Say Never and the upcoming Jem and the Holograms and Now You See Me 2, is getting ready to return to the world of dance for Can't Touch This, a high school dance comedy set in the 1990s. Deadline has the news, reporting that Chu will produce Can't Touch This with no word given yet as to whether or not he might also direct. The film set up at Focus Features, the idea for Can't Touch This originated with Chu and producing partner Hieu Ho, who then set "The Goldbergs" writers Steve Basilone and Annie Mebane to script. Can't Touch This will be produced by both Chu and Ho.

I don't know how to feel about this news. On one hand Jon M. Chu has had some really decent films in his career, but he's also had some pretty bad ones. He's directing what I think is possibly one of the stupidest ideas ever (Jem and the Holograms), but he has a history with dance films so this could work out.

Jack O'Connell, the star of Angelina Jolie's Unbroken, and the Academy Award-winning Julia Roberts are set to join the previously-attached George Clooney for the Jodie Foster-helmed Money Monster, a fast-paced, character-driven thriller written by Jamie Linden. Daniel Dubiecki, who worked with Clooney on Up in the Air, and Lara Alameddine developed the script alongside Foster.
Clooney stars as Lee Gates, a bombastic television stock huckster, whose program (the titular "Money Monster"), and life, are taken hostage by an outraged gunman. As much of the world watches live, Gates must keep himself alive and, with help from the woman who produces the show, uncover the truth behind a tangle of big money lies. Said to be "taught and tense," Money Monster unfolds in near real time. Roberts would play the producer, Nancy Fenn, while O'Connell would play Kyle Budwell, a blue collar man pushed to his limits who serves as the story's antagonist. Dubiecki and Alameddine's The Allegiance Theater will produce together with Clooney and his Smokehouse Pictures partner Grant Heslov. Alan DiFore and Jim Kouf wrote the original draft of the script. Principal photography is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2015.

This is really great casting. I mean putting two Oscar winners togehter in Roberts and Clooney and a possible Oscar nominee at this year's Oscars in Jack O'Connell sounds like a really amazing idea. The also sounds really interesting and I'm really curious to check it out and it could be a potential Oscar winner.
