11-25-14 Movie News

Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

(NOTE: All of these stories come from comingsoon.net)

Despite previously revealing that the trailer for Jurassic World would debut the evening of Thanksgiving, Universal Pictures has released the trailer two days early and you can check it out below and let us know your thoughts in the comments. Opening in 3D, 2D and IMAX theaters on June 12, 2015, the anticipated movie stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Ty Simpkins, Jake Johnson, Nick Robinson, Irrfan Khan, Vincent D’Onofrio, BD Wong, Omar Sy, Judy Greer, Katie McGrath, Lauren Lapkus and Andy Buckley. Jurassic World is a sci-fi terror adventure set 22 years after the horrific events of the original Jurassic Park.

This was an awesome trailer. I've dying to see this trailer and now that it is out I'm even more excited for the film than I already was. It did a great job of not showing everything from the movie and it lets us have the ability to not spoil ourselves. It's also weird that they decided to go ahead and release the trailer now opposed to Friday when Universal said they would, but I guess they wanted to go ahead and build momentum before the star Wars trailer hits and not let it be overshadowed by that. I'm just so glad the trailer is out and I cannot wait to see the movie.

It was just over a week ago that word broke that Warner Bros. Pictures was keen on signing “Breaking Bad” and “The Walking Dead” director Michelle MacLaren to helm their long-awaited DC Comics adaptation Wonder Woman. Today, The Hollywood Reporter has announced that the deal is done! MacLaren will both develop and direct the solo film with Charles Roven and Zack and Deborah Snyder producing. Gal Gadot is already set to headline Wonder Woman with the character planned to make her first cinematic appearance in 2016′s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. She may even make additional appearances across DC’s new cinematic universe before her solo film sees release on June 23, 2017. It’s pretty much a guarantee, too, that Wonder Woman is also going to play an important role in Justice League Part One, hitting theaters November 10, 2017. Recent rumors have suggested that, as a franchise, Wonder Woman is being targeted for development as a trilogy with the first film planned to take place in the 1920s, revealing Themyscira’s first encounter with the outside world and Wonder Woman’s own experiences with a USA that still had a lot to learn about equal rights. Then, it is alleged, a sequel would take place in the 1940s and will be set against the backdrop of World War II. A third film, then, would finally bring Wonder Woman’s solo adventures to a contemporary setting. Take all of that with a grain of salt, however. MacLaren’s directing credits also include episodes of “Game of Thrones,” “The Leftovers” and the upcoming “Breaking Bad” spinoff “Better Call Saul.” She’s also well-known for serving as co-executive producer on the final two seasons of FOX’s “The X-Files.”

This is amazing news and a great choice. MacLaren  is an amazing director and I think she is the perfect choice for this film. Like I said when she was rumored a couple of weeks ago, she could be the DC universe's version of Alan Taylor who directed episodes of Game of Thrones and then went on to direct Thor: The Dark World  and Wonder Woman is in the same realm as this when it comes to mythology. I really like the choice and I cannot wait to she how she handles this film.

Yesterday, Warner Bros. dropped a slew of images from director Joe Wright’s lavishly fractured take on Peter Pan, and now we have our first moving look at Hugh Jackman’s Blackbeard, his flying ship and the title character of Pan in the first trailer, which you can view below. Offering a new take on the origin of the classic characters created by J.M. Barrie, Pan follows the story of an orphan who is spirited away to the magical Neverland. There, he finds both fun and dangers, and ultimately discovers his destiny-to become the hero who will be forever known as Peter Pan. Warner Bros.’ blockbuster fantasy Pan stars Hugh Jackman, Garrett Hedlund, Nonso Anozie, Amanda Seyfried, Rooney Mara, Adeel Akhtar and Levi Miller, and will be released on July 17, 2015.

I really enjoyed this trailer. I wasn't really for sure how I would feel about this film and now that I've seen the trailer the film has really peaked my interest. Hugh Jackman looks amazing as Blackbeard and I really like that Captain Hook isn't the main villain for the film. Another good thing is that we get to see a Peter Pan origins story which we've never seen before and I'm really looking forward to the film.

Mark Ruffalo’s Dylan Rhodes had some prettystartling reveals in the first Now You See Me, which makes it logical that Ruffalo (via his Instagram account) should reveal the sequel’s subtitle Now You See Me: The Second Act. This falls into what fellow returning star Michael Caine said in another magic-themed movie, The Prestige, about magicians having three distinct acts to every trick: The Pledge, The Turn and The Prestige. The Turn is described in The Prestige as a point when, “the magician takes the ordinary something and makes it do something extraordinary. Now you’re looking for the secret… but you won’t find it, because of course you’re not really looking. You don’t really want to know. You want to be fooled. But you wouldn’t clap yet.” One year after outwitting the FBI and winning the public’s adulation with their mind-bending spectacles, the Four Horsemen resurface in Now You See Me: The Second Act only to find themselves face to face with a new enemy who enlists them to pull off their most dangerous heist yet. Jon M. Chu is directing Now You See Me: The Second Act, which features returning stars Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher, Dave Franco, Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman along with franchise newcomers Daniel Radcliffe, Lizzy Caplan and Jay Chou. It’s set for a June 10, 2016 release.

This is a really great title. When you're talking about a magic show they tend to be in acts and a sequel to a magician themed film then a The Second Act is a great title. I enjoyed the first film (I wasn't a huge fan) and seeing the cast that they have assembled for the film really gets me curious about this film and makes me want to see it.

The winding saga of the Steve Jobs biopic continues ever on after Sony recently put the film into turnaround, which according to The Hollywood Reporter has led to Universal swiftly taking over the project with Danny Boyle remaining in the directors chair and Aaron Sorkin still scripting. Acclaimed actor Michael Fassbender is currently attached to play the enigmatic Apple CEO in a compressed story that has him dramatically interacting with figures such as co-founder Steve Wozniak and former CEO John Sculley. This movie’s tortured saga has seen a much maligned rival project (2013′s JOBS) come and go from theaters while influential directors (David Fincher) and big movie stars (Leonardo DiCaprio, Christian Bale) courted the film only to drop out, but Universal picking up the slack could be just the shot in the arm the beleaguered biopic needs. Universal has a history of picking up trouble projects from other studios, as they did when they snatched up recent hit Dumb and Dumber To after Warner Bros. passed on it. When Christian Bale was still attached at Sony, funnyman Seth Rogen was in talks to play mischievous prankster computer genius Wozniak while Jessica Chastain–currently hot off of Interstellar and A Most Violent Year–was rumored for an unknown part as well. In his interview with Bloomberg (via Apple Insider), Sorkin indicated that both Apple’s original head of Mac marketing Joanna Hoffman and Steve Jobs’ daughter Lisa would play major roles in the story, either of which could be a rich role for Chastain. Based on Walter Isaacson’s 2011 biography “Steve Jobs,” Universal’s currently untitled Jobs movie will be produced by Scott Rudin, Mark Gordon and Guymon Casady.

This is great news to hear. This is a film that needs to be made and it's a story that would easily work on the big screen. It has gone through a lot and now that Universal has picked up the film I really think that it'll get going on the right track and hopefully they can lock down someone to play Steve Jobs. I would have preferred Christian Bale, but I would be ok with Michael Fassbender in the role. Like I said with a new studio this film will more than likely  get made and I cannot wait to see it when it comes out.
