My Review of Anomalisa

So I recently watched Anomalisa and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado.....

Michael Stone (voiced by David Thewlis), husband, father and respected author of "How May I Help You Help Them?" is a man crippled by the mundanity of his life. On a business trip to Cincinnati, where he's scheduled to speak at a convention of customer service professionals, he checks into the Fregoli Hotel. There, he is amazed to discover a possible escape from his desperation in the form of an unassuming Akron baked goods sales rep, Lisa (voiced by Jennifer Jason Leigh), who may or may not be the love of his life.

This is magnificent film and achievement. stop-motion animation is the hardest animation style to pull off due to all of the small details and this film pulls it off without hardly any flaws. Charlie Kaufman is a visionary with his writing and this only his second film, but he knocks it out of the park. The film is so realistic and everything in the film has a sense of realism to it. The voice cast is pretty tremendous and both David Thewlis and Jennifer Jason Leigh really bring both of their characters to life. The film has basically everything you could want from emotion to humor to vulgarness (yes this is an R-rated animated film) and it's great to see film take a chance like that and still be able to pull off an amazing feat. The story is a little flat, but it has a lot of heart to it and it almost feels a little like Lost in Translation and instead of ads, it just takes a look at the life of this man who is just in rut and you want to cheer for him. Sometimes the story gets too depressing and you will come out of the film felling depressed. After the longest time Inside Out seemed like to be a lock to win Best Animated Feature at The Oscars, but not it looks as if this film will be a big time player for the award as well. Overall this was a great cinematic achievement and the animation is beautiful, but the film just gets too unnecessarily depressing. I give Anomalisa a 9 out of 10.

So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of Anomalisa, what would you rate it and what did you think of my review? Let me know in the comments section below and your voice be heard.
