Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

For a long time, an adaptation of Stephen King’s IT was being developed by director Carey Fukunaga (“True Detective”) as a two-part feature film, but he left the project over Memorial Day weekend leaving New Line Pictures and producers Dan Lin, Roy Lee, Seth Grahame-Smith and Jeffrey Katzenberg scrambling to find a new director. Now comes word from The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision that Andy Muschietti, director of the 2013 breakout horror hit Mama, produced by Guillermo del Toro and starring Jessica Chastain and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, is in talks to take over the directorial reins. Originally meant to start shooting in June, the production was delayed when Fukunaga dropped out and when Muschietti’s deal is closed, New Line will find a writer to work on the script with him, maintaining the plan to release the movie in two parts. It seems like actor Will Poulter (We’re the Millers) may no longer be attached to the project to play the evil clown entity Pennywise due to scheduling issues, but they could very well go back to him after finalizing the new script. At one point, Muschietti was attached to the direct Universal’s upcoming remake of The Mummy, but that project will happen with or without him.
I think this is a great choice. I really loved what he did on Mama and him coming from a horror background will really help him in the development of this film. I was looking forward to seeing what Carey Fukunaga would've done with the material, but I think that Muschietti will be a better fit. As for Will Poulter, at the time I really liked the casting, but it didn't grow on me like I thought I would, but since he isn't come back to the project as of now he could still return and be a great Pennywise. I love the first adaptation eventhough it was vastly different from the book, I hope this one stays more faithful to the source material.
Will Arnett’s LEGO Batman has found his Boy Wonder! The Hollywood Reporter today brings word that Michael Cera will voice Robin in the upcoming The LEGO Batman Movie. Cera’s Superbad costar, Jonah Hill, previously cameoed in The LEGO Movie as fellow DC Comics superhero Green Lantern. Cera has recently been lending his voice to Rob Corddry, Jonathan Stern and David Wain’s Adult Swim comedy series, “Children’s Hospital,” and has another major voice role hitting the big screen next summer. He’s set to reteam with Hill as well as Seth Rogen, Kristen Wiig, Salma Hayek, Edward Norton, David Krumholtz, Nick Kroll, James Franco, Craig Robinson, Bill Hader, Anders Holm, Paul Rudd and Danny McBride for the R-rated animated ensemble, Sausage Party. Set for release June 3, 2016, Sausage Party follows the adventures of some sausages determined to get back to their proper place in a grocery store before a big 4th of July sale. According to the trade, Cera is also making plans to write and direct a big screen adaptation of Charles Portis’ “Masters of Atlantis.” Portis, a famously reclusive author, is best known for his 1968 novel True Grit, twice adapted for the big screen. “Masters of Atlantis,” published in 1985, is officially described as follows: Lamar Jimmerson is the leader of the Gnomon Society, the international fraternal order dedicated to preserving the arcane wisdom of the lost city of Atlantis. Stationed in France in 1917, Jimmerson comes across a little book crammed with Atlantean puzzles, Egyptian riddles, and extended alchemical metaphors. It’s the Codex Pappus – the sacred Gnomon text. Soon he is basking in the lore of lost Atlantis, convinced that his mission on earth is to administer to and extend the ranks of the noble brotherhood. The LEGO Movie animation supervisor Chris McKay will direct The LEGO Batman Movie, which features a script by Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter creator Seth Grahame-Smith. The LEGO Batman Movie hits theaters on May 26, 2017
I think this is a great casting choice. I'm a big fan of Micheal Cera and I think his voice will lend well to the character of Robin in this film. I mean he was probably recommended by Jonah Hill (co-star in Superbad and This is The End) who played Green Lantern in The Lego Movie and now Micheal Cera is going to be in a Lego superhero film. I really enjoyed Will Arnett's voice as Batman in The Lego Movie and I was really excited to hear that he was getting a spin-off film. I think this film will be fantastic and I can't wait to see which style and story they will tell in the film.
When Ezra Miller was cast as Barry Allen/The Flash for a solo movie as well as participation in other DC Cinematic Universe movies such as Justice League it was considered an unconventional choice, but a recent interview with MTV shows that the acclaimed indie actor (The Perks of Being a Wallflower, The Stanford Prison Experiment) is more than game to take on the role. “Barry Allen is the hero of the Silver Age who follows a lot of really interesting discoveries in physics,” says Miller. “Where he comes from is where we figured out the Event Horizon was there, and he was the character who was created through our mythos machine of comic books to break that Event Horizon, so you could explore in fantasy… I think that’s an interesting idea. And, what’s an interesting idea to me is, "What the f**k does that do to someone?" Miller’s infectious enthusiasm also extends to “The Flash” TV series, whose second season begins airing on The CW this October 6. “I’m not avoiding it at all,” Miller says of the show. “I think it’s awesome! C’mon, we’re The Flash! It’s parallel universes! Grant Gustin is The Flash AND I’m The Flash, don’t you see? It’s the Event Horizon, we crossed it baby! Grant and I are chillin’, we’re gonna have a race, it’s gonna be dope. Like Jay Garrick and Barry Allen back in the day.” An admitted longtime comic book fan, Miller is using his role as a means to truly do a deep dive into fanboy lore. “I’ve been a comic guy, but I’m going in as hard as possible because I have a serious excuse to,” Miller enthuses. “I have the ultimate license to geek out SO HARD all the time!” Featuring a screenplay by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, The Flash movie is set for release March 23, 2018, while Justice League Part One will be directed by Zack Snyder and released on November 10, 2017.
I really love these comments. As I always say I'm a big fan of when an actor is excited about taking on a role, especially in a comic book film and Miller does just that. I also like hearing that both he and Grant Gustin are friends and they understand the direction the DCCU is going and the where the tv universe is going and they are in separate universes. But it is interesting saying that they are in parallel universes becasue that means that DC could do the Crisis on Infinite Earths which means that both the TV universe and Movie universe could eventually cross paths, but at the current moment that seems uncertain.
Warner Bros. Pictures has released the new Pan trailer, featuring new footage from director Joe Wright’s upcoming origin story. Pan is set for a worldwide release in 3D and 2D in theaters and IMAX on October 9. Offering a new take on the origin of the classic characters created by J.M. Barrie, Pan follows the story of an orphan who is spirited away to the magical Neverland. There, he finds both fun and dangers, and ultimately discovers his destiny-to become the hero who will be forever known as Peter Pan. Pan is a live-action Peter Pan feature directed by Joe Wright (Atonement, Pride & Prejudice). Offering a new take on the origin of the classic characters created by J.M. Barrie, the action adventure follows the story of an orphan who is spirited away to the magical Neverland. There, he finds both fun and dangers, and ultimately discovers his destiny—to become the hero who will be forever known as Peter Pan. The film stars Oscar nominee Hugh Jackman (Les Misérables) as Blackbeard, Garrett Hedlund (Inside Llewyn Davis) as Hook, Oscar nominee Rooney Mara (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) as Tiger Lily, Adeel Akhtar (The Dictator) as Smee, and newcomer Levi Miller as Peter. Rounding out the cast are Taejoo Na (The Kick) as Kwahu, Nonso Anozie (Son of God, Atonement) as Bishop, Kathy Burke (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy) as Mother Barnabas, Kurt Egyiawan (Skyfall) as Murray, Lewis MacDougall (UK TV’s “In the Name of the Children”) as Nibs, newcomer Leni Zieglmeier as Wendy Darling, Jack Charles (Mystery Road) as The Chief/Tiger Lily’s father, and Amanda Seyfried (Les Misérables) as Mary.
Surprisingly I didn't like this trailer at all. It felt really campy and cheesy and that's not what I wanted to see from this film. This film really had me going, but seeing this trailer has made me a little worried about it. I'm still going to give the film a shot simply because it is a different and unique take on the story and plus I loved the first two trailer so it has a lot going for it at the moment in my opinion.
Universal Pictures and StudioCanal UK have debuted a new international Legend trailer. The film is the true story of the Kray twins, a pair of gangsters who controlled much of London’s organized crime in the 1960s, featuring Tom Hardy (The Dark Knight Rises, Mad Max: Fury Road) in the dual roles of Ronald and Reginald Kray. You can check it out below. From Academy Award winner Brian Helgeland (L.A. Confidential, Mystic River) comes the true story of the rise and fall of London’s most notorious gangsters, Reggie and Ron Kray, both portrayed by Tom Hardy in an amazing double performance. Legend is a classic crime thriller taking us into the secret history of the 1960s and the extraordinary events that secured the infamy of the Kray twins. Legend also stars Emily Browning, Christopher Eccleston, Taron Egerton, Tara Fitzgerald, Chazz Palminteri and David Thewlis. Cross Creek Pictures’ Brian Oliver and Tyler Thompson produce with Working Title Films’ Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner alongside Christopher Clark and Quentin Curtis. Legend opens in the UK on September 11 and in limited release stateside on October 2.
I really enjoyed this trailer. Now granted both trailers that have been released for the so far have shown a lot, but it has shown just the right amount for me to not know much about the film and to get me more excited for the film. Tom Hardy is an amazing actor and I cannot wait to see him in the film handling two completely different roles. This film has a good chance of helping get Tom Hardy the Oscar nomination he has been searching for, but I have to see the film to make that judgement.
