Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

Universal Pictures and Legendary Pictures have released the new Steve Jobs trailer, which you can watch below. The film is scheduled for release on Friday, October 9. Set backstage at three iconic product launches and ending in 1998 with the unveiling of the iMac, Steve Jobs takes us behind the scenes of the digital revolution to paint an intimate portrait of the brilliant man at its epicenter. Steve Jobs is directed by Academy Award winner Danny Boyle and written by Academy Award winner Aaron Sorkin, working from Walter Isaacson’s best-selling biography of the Apple co-founder. The producers are Mark Gordon, Guymon Casady of Film 360, Scott Rudin and Academy Award winner Christian Colson. Michael Fassbender plays Steve Jobs, the pioneering founder of Apple, with Academy Award®winning actress Kate Winslet starring as Joanna Hoffman, former marketing chief of Macintosh. Steve Wozniak, who co-founded Apple, is played by Seth Rogen, and Jeff Daniels stars as former Apple CEO John Sculley. The film also stars Katherine Waterston as Chrisann Brennan, Jobs’ ex-girlfriend, and Michael Stuhlbarg as Andy Hertzfeld, one of the original members of the Apple Macintosh development team.
This was a really great trailer. Now some people are complaining that it showed too much, but honestly who doesn't know the story of Steve Jobs. The trailer was upbeat and intense at the same time and I think this will be a great film. The film has went through a lot by going from Sony to Universal, changing directors from David Fincher to Danny Boyle and changing lead actors from Leonardo DiCaprio to Christian Bale to Michael Fassbender. Through all of that struggle I think the film has a lot of potential and it I think it will contend for e few Oscars.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, acclaimed writer/director Paul Thomas Anderson (Boogie Nights, There Will Be Blood, The Master) has signed on to write and possibly direct Robert Downey Jr. as Geppetto in a re-imagined take on Carlo Collodi’s Pinocchio. The long-gestating adaptation was originally eyed as a directing vehicle for both Tropic Thunder‘s Ben Stiller as well as Tim Burton, who has since turned his attentions to a live-action Dumbo and other projects. Michael Mitnick (The Giver), Bryan Fuller (“Hannibal”) and Jane Goldman (Kingsman: The Secret Service) have all worked on previous drafts. Anderson has had prior history with Downey Jr. after the actor nearly starred in last year’s Inherent Vice before Avengers: Age of Ultron interfered, or they came to the mutual decision that he was too old for the part, depending on who you ask. Joaquin Phoenix eventually inherited the role of stoner detective Larry “Doc” Sportello in the film. Downey Jr., Susan Downey as well as Dan Jinks (Milk) will produce Pinocchio through their Team Downey shingle for Warner Bros. The classic 1883 story of a woodworker who carves a puppet that is magically brought to life and wishes to become a real boy has had many onscreen iterations. These include the beloved 1940 Disney animated classic, a 1996 live-action version The Adventures of Pinocchio starring Jonathan Taylor Thomas and Martin Landau, as well as 2002’s Pinocchio starring Oscar-winner Roberto Benigni which had a disastrous reception in America but was more well-recieved in his native Italy. Meanwhile, Disney has their own competing Pinocchio-“inspired” movie, and Guillermo del Toro still hopes to bring his 3D stop-motion animated version to the screen.
If you want anybody to write a film then Paul Thomas Anderson is the guy for the job. He is one of the most original and creative writers in the business and I think he can really take this story to a whole other level. Plus teaming him with Robert Downey Jr. is an even greater idea. If it all comes to fruition then this film could be absolutely amazing especially if PTA not only writes, but directs.
Deadline brings word that actors J.K. Simmons and Michael Keaton have both dropped out of Legendary Pictures and Universal’s Kong: Skull Island due to scheduling conflicts. Production on the film was set to begin this fall but was recently delayed a few weeks, resulting in the conflict. Legendary is currently seeking to replace the two actors in the film, which still has the god of mischief himself, Tom Hiddleston, attached to star. Earlier this year, Simmons revealed a surprise setting for the film, saying it would take place in Detroit in 1971; however, given the title of the movie, it’s a safe bet that the jungles of King Kong’s homeland will be the primary setting. Set for release on March 10, 2017, Kong: Skull Island aims to fully immerse audiences in the mysterious and dangerous home of the king of the apes as a team of explorers ventures deep inside the treacherous, primordial island. Legendary’s story honors the foundations of existing King Kong lore, but places it in an entirely new, distinct timeline. The Kings of Summer‘s Jordan Vogt-Roberts will direct the film from a script by John Gatins and Max Borenstein. Thomas Tull (Godzilla, The Dark Knight, Pacific Rim) and Jon Jashni (Godzilla, Warcraft) will produce and Alex Garcia (Godzilla) will executive produce. The film will be released in 3D and IMAX 3D by Universal Pictures.
I really hate to hear this news. when they first signed on to the project, I thought to myself that this could be the best cast in any movie ever. But now that they have departed it does raise a few eyebrows. I mean when you have the reigning Best Supporting actor in J.K. Simmons and a most a recent Best Actor nominee in Michael Keaton leave a project then something is not right. Hopefully I'm wrong because I really want to see this film do good and while Hiddleston is still attached, there could be a possibility that he may leave as well.
Lionsgate and Hasbro are partnering to bring the iconic game Monopoly to the big screen, the two companies announced today. Academy Award-nominated and BAFTA award-winning writer/producer/director Andrew Niccol (The Truman Show, Gattaca, The Terminal) will write the screenplay for the Monopoly movie, which will be produced by Lionsgate and Hasbro’s Allspark Pictures. Lionsgate will finance the movie. “Hasbro is a partner with incredible global reach, one of the most compelling brand portfolios in the world, and a signature brand in Monopoly that has multigenerational appeal,” said Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Co-President Erik Feig. “Andrew Niccol is the ultimate world creator responsible for such disparate and imaginative films as The Truman Show, Gattaca, and The Terminal. He is an inspired choice to develop this timeless property into a big, crowd-pleasing event film that will appeal to kids, families and anyone who has ever played the Monopoly game.” “As we’ve seen with our other movies and television series, Hasbro’s brands are terrific for creating engaging stories and appealing characters that speak to audiences of all ages, and together with Lionsgate we will bring Monopoly to life on the big screen,” said Stephen Davis, Executive Vice President and Chief Content Officer of Hasbro. “Monopoly is one of the most popular games of all time, and it will translate into a film with tremendous global appeal and marketability based on a script being deftly written by the remarkable Andrew Niccol.” In keeping with a game that has brought so many hours of joy to so many for so long, Monopoly will be a film for all ages, visually sumptuous, heartwarming, and full of action and adventure. The story centers on a boy from Baltic Avenue who uses both Chance and Community in a quest to make his fortune, taking him on a fun, adventure-filled journey. It’s about making your own luck, what makes you truly rich and, of course, avoiding Jail time! The Monopoly brand is the world’s favorite family gaming brand and an integral part of popular culture today. The game has been played by more than one billion people in 114 countries around the world and has been translated into 47 different languages. More people are playing the Monopoly game than ever before, offering kids and families the thrill of owning it all across a variety of platforms and formats.
At first I thought this was a crazy idea and then I realized that it's actually a genius decision. One thing people will complain about is that Hollywood is out of ideas and that is completely untrue, but I'm saving that argument for later. All I have to tell you is look at the success of The Lego Movie, a film nobody thought would be anywhere close to great quality it is and that turned into a successful film both critically and financially. I think this film has a chance to be just as good and I can't wait to see how it all turns out.
Lionsgate UK has released the international London Has Fallen trailer, which you can watch below. The sequel to 2013’s Olympus Has Fallen again stars Gerard Butler as Secret Service agent Mike Banning alongside Aaron Eckhart as the President of the United States. Also returning are Morgan Freeman as Vice President Trumbull, Angela Bassett as Secret Service Director Lynne Jacobs, and Melissa Leo as Defense Secretary Ruth McMillan. Babak Najafi (Snabba Cash II) directs the thriller from a screenplay by Creighton Rothenberger & Katrin Benedikt (Olympus Has Fallen) and Chad St. John. The story begins in London, where the British Prime Minister has passed away under mysterious circumstances. His funeral is a must-attend event for leaders of the western world. However, what starts out as the most protected event on Earth turns into a deadly plot to kill the world’s most powerful leaders, devastate every known landmark in the British capital, and unleash a terrifying vision of the future. Only three people have any hope of stopping it: the President of the United States, his formidable Secret Service head (Butler), and an English MI-6 agent who rightly trusts no one. Reprising their roles in support are Robert Forster as General Edward Clegg, Sean O’Bryan as NSA Deputy Director Ray Monroe, and Radha Mitchell as Leah Banning. Joining the returning cast members are Jackie Earle Haley, Alon Aboutboul, Charlotte Riley, and Waleed Zuaiter. Gramercy Pictures will release London Has Fallen in domestic theaters on January 22, 2016.
This was a really nice teaser trailer. It didn't give away hardly anything about the film and it seems like this film will be more action packed than the first film was. Out of the two White House destruction films that cam out in 2013, I preferred Olympus Has Fallen over White House Down. I like the core cast is returning for the film and I can't wait to see the other big action pieces the film has in store for us all.
