My Review of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory

Due to the tragic passing of Gene wilder this past week, we lost a fabulous comedic actor who brought many more emotions to use than laughter. With the being said, I thought I it would be fitting to review one of my favorite Gene Wilder films Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. So without further ado...

The last of five coveted "golden tickets" falls into the hands of a sweet but very poor boy (played by Peter Ostrum). He and his grandpa (played by Jack Albertson) then get a tour of the strangest chocolate factory in the world. The owner played by Gene Wilder) leads five young winners on a thrilling and often dangerous tour of his factory.

This is just an absolutely amazing film. It's charming on so many levels and it just has so many great messages for everyone. The set design for the film is breathtaking and it all just looks so well crafted and the attention to detail is off the charts. The comedic timing is spot on with a lot of great little jokes that take a jab at everyone in the film. The songs are memorable from the very beginning and they just bring out so many different emotions. The performances are terrific, but the real standout is Gene Wilder who just comes off as this quirky character that has a mean soul, but actually deep down has a loving can caring sense to him. Not only do the songs bring out every emotion, but the story itself brings out a lot of emotions. You get excited to see the factory for the first time, you get scared in the tunnel, you cry at the ending of the film and it just does such a good job of not making the emotions so over-whelming. There are a lot of quotable lines that are still used to this day it just makes the film more everlasting. If there are any problems with the film it would have to be some of the dialogue is just a little cheesy and the obvious cutaways with Slugworth and the kids is a little distracting. Overall this film is fun for the whole family to enjoy and it teaches you so many lessons, but mostly to be true to yourself. I give willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory a 9.5 out of 10.
