My Review of Sully

So I recently watched Sully and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado..............

On Jan. 15, 2009, Capt. Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger (played by Tom Hanks) tries to make an emergency landing in New York's Hudson River after US Airways Flight 1549 strikes a flock of geese. Miraculously, all of the 155 passengers and crew survive the harrowing ordeal, and Sullenberger becomes a national hero in the eyes of the public and the media. Despite the accolades, the famed pilot now faces an investigation that threatens to destroy his career and reputation.

This film is pretty remarkable. Now going into this film you have to wonder how you can make a film based on an event that lasted 10 minutes and Clint Eastwood of all people is the one to do it. You're given a great detailed look at the life of Sullenberger both before and after the crash and how much it impacted his life. It tells these stories through flashbacks and flashforwards that fill in a lot of the gaps and one thing that was disappointing is that the event itself isn't the primary focus of the film and it instead is all about Sullenberger and while that's a great  way to tell the story, more people often tend to remember the event than the person who saved the day. Tom Hanks is wonderful in the title role and he just gives off this certain energy that you often don't see from him unless he is 100% committed to the role he is in. Aaron Eckhart was great in a supporting role and even Laura Linney was great and she wasn't used as much and that actually ended up being a good thing because it makes her performance more impactful due to short memorable scenes. It does get emotional at times when you see the aftermath of the event, but it often times swells up and gets to be a little too emotional. Overall it's a marvelous film with great performances, direction and storytelling techniques, but the lack of focus on the topic at hand really is a letdown. I give Sully an 8 out of 10.

So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of Sully, what would you rate it and what did you think of my review? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
