My Review of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies

So I recently watched Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado...

In the 19th century, a mysterious plague turns the English countryside into a war zone. No one is safe as the dead come back to life to terrorize the land. Fate leads Elizabeth Bennet (played by Lily James), a master of martial arts and weaponry, to join forces with Mr. Darcy (played by Sam Riley), a handsome but arrogant gentleman. Elizabeth can't stand Darcy, but respects his skills as a zombie killer. Casting aside their personal differences, they unite on the blood-soaked battlefield to save their country.

This was a pretty fun film to watch. When this film was announced it was sorta written off as a joke and rightfully so, but there are quite a few fun moments that made the film somewhat entertaining.  Now if you're a fan of Pride and Prejudice, then you may not like this film at all. However  if you are a fan of zombies, then this is the film for you. There is  a lot of great action in the film that is sometimes brutal and fun and other times the action is relatively boring. The gore and violence in the film feels like it was used a little to much and it often took away from the overall story, but when dealing with zombies you have to make it look realistic, but the film could've went another route. The source material itself was wrote by the same guy who wrote the book Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and that film turned out to be a pile of garbage mainly due to the author writing the screenplay as well, but this film manages to stay true to the material really well and it translated to the big screen. The performances in the aren't the greatest in the world, but Lily James does a fantastic job and she really proves that she can be action star in the near future. The humor in the film is a little flat, but only if you don't understand the deadpan humor that the British often use for everything, but if you do then you probably find the film hilarious. Even though putting zombies in 19th Century England may sound like a good and interesting way to tell a story, both the era and genre don't mix that well. Overall this film had a lot of fun and entertaining moments that make the film redeemable as well a great standout performance from Lily James, but the overall plot and supporting performances make the film more boring than the real film of Pride and Prejudice does. I give Pride and Prejudice and Zombies a 5.5 out of 10.
