My Review of Brooklyn

So I recently watched Brooklyn and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado.......

Brooklyn tells the profoundly moving story of Eilis Lacey (played by Saoirse Ronan), a young Irish immigrant navigating her way through 1950s Brooklyn. Lured by the promise of America, Eilis departs Ireland and the comfort of her mother's home for the shores of New York City. The initial shackles of homesickness quickly diminish as a fresh romance sweeps Eilis into the intoxicating charm of love. But soon, her new vivacity is disrupted by her past, and Eilis must choose between two countries and the lives that exist within.

This was a really great movie. Saoirse Ronan is a true up and coming actress and she gives a tremendous performance that very well may win her an Oscar here in 4 months. The film also has a really talented supporting cast that includes the likes of Domhnall Gleeson, Emory Cohen and Emily Bett Rickards who all give absolutely terrific performances. The film itself tells a magnificent story and it really does a great job of putting you in this woman's shoes as she goes through this fascinating journey. It has a lot of emotional and powerful moments and the writing just makes everything flow so brilliantly. The main problem with the film is that it has a pretty predictable storyline of a girl who is trying to find her way in the world and once she settles in to her new home and she think she has put everything behind her, but her past comes back to haunt her. It's a fairly simple plot that we've seen many times before and it would have helped the film if the plot was a little more original. Eventhough the film does have that one problem it is still a major Oscar contender and it may walk away with top overall prize of the night.  Overall the plot may be unoriginal, it does do a good job of telling the story in very emotional and dramatic way, but the premise could've been a lot more original. I give Brooklyn a 9 out of 10.

So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of Brooklyn, what would you rate it and what did you think of my review? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
