11-10-15 Movie News

Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

(NOTE: All of these stories come from comingsoon.net)

Following the poster debut yesterday, the first trailer for Disney Pixar‘s long-awaited sequel Finding Dory is now online! Check out the Finding Dory trailer below. Finding Dory picks up six months after the first movie, with Dory (Ellen DeGeneres) living a quiet life among the clown fishes. After going with Nemo on a class trip to see manta rays migrate back home, her home sickness leads the forgetful Dory on a quest to find where she came from. “The movie will be mostly set at the California Marine Biology Institute, a huge complex of sea life rehabilitation and aquarium, where Dory was born and raised,” Pixar President Jim Morris stated previously. “We will get to meet new characters, like an octopus, sea lions, a beluga whale, among others.” Finding Dory features returning favorites Marlin, Nemo and the Tank Gang, among others. Set in part along the California coastline, the story also welcomes a host of new characters, including a few who will prove to be a very important part of Dory’s life, such as her parents voiced by Diane Keaton and Eugene Levy. Findng Nemo helmer Andrew Stanton (John Carter) returns to the directors chair for the animated film, which features the voices of Ellen DeGeneres, Albert Brooks, Ed O’Neill, Kaitlin Olson, Ty Burrell, Eugene Levy and Diane Keaton. Walt Disney Pictures will release the film on June 17, 2016.

This was a nice little teaser trailer. It didn't really give enough away about the story, but it gave away enough to peak a lot of people's interests. Of course a lot of people are already interested simply because it is a sequel to Finding Nemo. I like how they added in all of the little quirks that make Dory so lovable and I'm really excited to see how everything in the film plays out becasue the story just seems so great.

Paramount Pictures (via IGN) has brought online the international Zoolander 2 poster, which you can view below. Or is it Zoolander No. 2? Take that, Chanel. “It’s ten years later and most of it is set in Europe,” Stiller previously said of the script. “It’s basically Derek and Hansel ten years later – though the last movie ended on a happy note a lot of things have happened in the meantime. Their lives have changed and they’re not really relevant anymore. It’s a new world for them.” The movie begins a decade later with Derek and Hansel literally forgotten. Nobody even knows who they are, so they have to re-invent themselves. Stiller is directing the sequel and co-wrote the script with Justin Theroux (Tropic Thunder). Stiller is also producing Zoolander 2 alongside Stuart Cornfeld for a February 12, 2016 release. Owen Wilson is returning as Hansel, and the cast also includes Penélope Cruz, Christine Taylor, Kristen Wiig and Cyrus Arnold, with special appearances expected by Will Ferell as Jacobim Mugatu, Billy Zane, Fred Armisen, Justin Bieber, Kyle Mooney, Kim Kardashian, Ariana Grande, and more. Zoolander 2 was filmed for 12 weeks in Rome in and around the famed Cinecittà Studios. The first Zoolander was released on September 28, 2001 by Paramount Pictures and earned $60.8 million worldwide on a $28 million budget.

Zoolander 2

This is a really neat and perfect poster. One of the things that is going to make this film be so great is the use of modern technology and it has changed a lot since 2001 so it'll be neat to see both of these characters adapt to it. Now there was some speculation that Owen Wilson wasn't coming back for the film, but the poster confirms that he is and I honestly don't know how you could do Zoolander 2 without him. I'm really enjoyed the first film and I have been waiting on the sequel for a long time and I cannot wait to see it. The first trailer was a ok in my book but hopefully the trailer that will be coming soon will be spectacular.

Walt Disney Pictures has released a new The Finest Hours poster, which gives you a harrowing look at the upcoming real-life action-thriller. Check itbelow and stay tuned for the new trailer tomorrow. Directed by Craig Gillespie (Million Dollar Arm), The Finest Hours stars Chris Pine (Star Trek), Casey Affleck (Interstellar), Ben Foster (Lone Survivor), Holliday Grainger (Cinderella), John Ortiz (Blackhat) and Eric Bana (Deliver Us from Evil). The Finest Hours tells the remarkable true story of the greatest small boat rescue in Coast Guard history. Presented in Digital 3D and IMAX 3D, the film will transport audiences to the heart of the action, creating a fully-immersive cinematic experience on an epic scale. On February 18, 1952, a massive nor’easter struck New England, pummeling towns along the Eastern seaboard and wreaking havoc on the ships caught in its deadly path, including the SS Pendleton, a T-2 oil tanker bound for Boston, which was literally ripped in half, trapping more than 30 sailors inside its rapidly-sinking stern. As the senior officer on board, first assistant engineer Ray Sybert (Casey Affleck) soon realizes it is up to him to take charge of the frightened crew and inspire the men to set aside their differences and work together to ride out one of the worst storms to ever hit the East Coast. Meanwhile, as word of the disaster reaches the U.S. Coast Guard station in Chatham, Massachusetts, Warrant Officer Daniel Cluff (Eric Bana) orders a daring operation to rescue the stranded men. Despite overwhelming odds, four men, led by Coast Guard Captain Bernie Webber (Chris Pine), set out in a wooden lifeboat with an ill-equipped engine and little, if any, means of navigation, facing frigid temperatures, 60-foot high waves and hurricane-force winds. The Finest Hours opens in theaters on January 29, 2016.

The Finest Hours

I really like this poster a lot. It does give off the danger vibe and the risk that these men took on this rescue mission and it also feels a little like the poster for A Perfect Storm. So far everything I have heard about the film seems like it could be great, but the first trailer just seemed off to me and I'm really excited to see how much the second trailer will improve on it and hopefully get me more interested in the film.

Paramount Animation today announced release dates for several of the studio’s upcoming films, which will be released by the studio beginning in March of 2016, through March of 2019. Opening March 18, 2016, The Little Prince is directed by Academy Award nominee Mark Osborne (Kung Fu Panda) and features the voices of Mackenzie Foy, Jeff Bridge, Riley Osborne, Marion Cotillard, James Franco, Paul Rudd, Benicio del Toro, Paul Giamatti, Ricky Gervais, Albert Brooks, and Bud Cort. The film is the first-ever animated feature adaptation of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s iconic masterpiece, The Little Prince. Monster Trucks, from Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Movies, and previously scheduled for March 18, 2016 will now open January 13, 2017. A hybrid of live action and CGI animation directed by Chris Wedge (Epic, Robots, Ice Age), the cast includes Jane Levy, Lucas Till, Tom Lennon, Barry Pepper, Amy Ryan, Danny Glover, Holt McCallany and Frank Whaley. On February 8, 2019, the studio will release SpongeBob SquarePants 3. From Paramount Pictures, Nickelodeon Movies, and the team that brought us the hit film SpongeBob SquarePants: Sponge Out of Water, the follow-up film will again be directed by Paul Tibbitt and will feature the voices of Tom Kenny, Clancy Brown, Rodger Bumpass, Bill Fagerbakke, Carolyn Lawrence, and Mr. Lawrence. The original animated film Amusement Park will open March 22, 2019. From veteran animation director Dylan Brown (Supervising Animator on Ratatouille and Finding Nemo,  Directing Animator on Toy Story), the film stars the voices Matthew Broderick, Jennifer Garner, Jeffrey Tambor, Kenan Thompson, Ken Jeong, Mila Kunis, John Oliver, and Brianna Denski. The studio also recently announced that Elton John’s Rocket Pictures Sherlock Gnomes will open on January 12, 2018. From Paramount and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, the film is directed by John Stevenson (Kung Fu Panda) and comes from the makers of the hit animated movie Gnomeo and Juliet. The film will star the voices of Johnny Depp as Sherlock Gnomes, and welcomes back stars James McAvoy as Gnomeo and Emily Blunt as Juliet.

I really like all of these release dates and there's not much to complain about. One thing I am glad to see is that we are getting a third Spongebob movie because the first one was absolutely great and the second one was enjoyable and I hope the third film can be just as good. One thing that does kind of bother me is that we are getting another Gnomeo & Juliet movie and it's not the fact that it is happening because I really enjoyed the first film a lot, but it's because of Johnny Depp. I honestly think the guy just wants to do any movie so he can get a paycheck because it just seems like he wants to play every single type of character there is known to mankind. He can make a lot of good movies and that's apparent because of Black Mass where he might get nominated for an Oscar and then he decides to do silly and stupid movies. Granted he can do what ever he wants, but until he can give me three solid Oscar caliber performances in a row then I'll never respect him as an actor.

One of the big guns of the Ghost in the Shell movie is locked and loaded as Variety reports that DreamWorks Pictures has set Pilou Asbæk (“The Borgias”) to play the male lead Batou — the best fighter in Section 9 and second in command in the army — opposite Scarlett Johansson, who may or may not be playing Motoko Kusanagi or an original placeholder for that character. Johansson and Asbæk previously appeared together in Luc Besson’s sci-fi hit Lucy, with Asbæk playing the sleazy drug dealer Richard who sets that story in motion. Announced earlier this year, the Ghost in the Shell movie is set to be directed by Snow White and the Huntsman‘s Rupert Sanders from a screenplay adapted by Straight Outta Compton‘s Jonathan Herman, who took over from previous writers Jamie Moss and William Wheeler. The new Ghost in the Shell movie will offer a live-action adaptation of Masamune Shirow’s iconic cyberpunk manga series about the members of a covert ops unit that take on technology-related crime. “Ghost in the Shell” was famously adapted into an animated feature in 1995. Produced by Avi Arad, Ari Arad and Steven Paul, the Ghost in the Shell movie also has the backing of Steven Spielberg. The rights to Shirow’s original manga were picked up several years ago with plans to use the latest 3D technology to film it. In Japan, the huge success of the original “Ghost in the Shell” comics have led to a number of anime film adaptations, a TV series and a series of video games. A new OVA, titled Ghost in the Shell: The New Movie, will screen in more than 330 theaters across the United States and Canada on November 10, 11 and 16. Look for the Ghost in the Shell movie to hit the big screen March 31, 2017.

I honestly don't know what to think about this casting. Now that's not a bad thing whatsoever, but it's just I haven't seen this guy in much of anything. The only film I've seen him in is Lucy and he didn't really stand out in that movie enough for me to pay attention to his character. I'm also not that big of a fan of Ghost in the Shell so I honestly don't know anything about this character from the anime. He seems like he's a good actor and eventhough I'm not a fan of Game of Thrones, but I'm actually interested to watch it because of this guy to help get a better read on him as an actor.
