My Review of Pawn Sacrifice

So I recently watched Pawn Sacrifice and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado...

In this true story set during the rise of the Cold War, American chess professional Bobby Fischer (played by Tobey Maguire) finds himself caught between two superpowers when he challenges the Soviet Union and its greatest player, Boris Spassky (played by Liev Schreiber) for the World Championship.

This was an intense film. Bobby Fischer is a figure in American history that no one ever talks about and this film shows a few reasons why we don't and why we should. Now granted he didn't come up with a cure for cancer, but he brought a spotlight on a game that doesn't get much attention plus he went up against the USSR at the height of The Cold War which a lot of people didn't want to do at the time. As for the film itself the performances are just absolutely spectacular mainly the ones coming from Tobey Maguire and Liev Schreiber and when they are on screen together they feed off of each other really well. The film doesn't really tell much about the life of Bobby Fischer which is kind of disappointing because I feel that his younger life is much more interesting than his later years. The first two acts of the film are really strong, but the last act was pretty bland and boring and couldn't finish the film off well. Overall this film does take and interesting look and an important part of Fischer's life, but it comes off as a pretty boring film. I give Pawn Sacrifice a 6.5 out of 10.

So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of Pawn Sacrifice, what would you rate it and what did you think of my review? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
