My Review of Captain America: Civil War

So I recently watched Captain America: Civil War and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado...

Official poster shows the Avengers team factions which led by Iron Man and Captain America, confronting each other by looking each other, with the film's slogan above them, and the film's title, credits, and release date below them.

Political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability when the actions of the Avengers lead to collateral damage. The new status quo deeply divides members of the team. Captain America (played by Chris Evans) believes superheroes should remain free to defend humanity without government interference. Iron Man (played by Robert Downey Jr.) sharply disagrees and supports oversight. As the debate escalates into an all-out feud, Black Widow (played by Scarlett Johansson) and Hawkeye (played by Jeremy Renner) as the well as the rest of The Avengers must pick a side.

This film was both fun, yet boring. It's weird to put those two together, but it's the truth. Most of this film was fun, but when it wasn't fun, it got to be really boring. There were a lot of times where the film just dragged on and while some of it was setting up for future MCU films, most of it was unnecessary filler material. The action in the film is top notch and every character is given their moment to shine in the spotlight. The airport scene in that is featured in the marketing campaign is a lot bigger than advertised and there are a lot of great moments that due some of the characters justice. It builds off of a wide variety of themes that mesh well together and it lays the groundwork for the future of the MCU as mentioned before.

The performances are outstanding and the two main stars are Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans who both give their best performances as Tony Stark/Iron Man and Captain America respectively. Speaking of performances, both Chadwick Boseman and Tom Holland are spectacualr in their debuts as T'Challa/Black Panther and Peter Parker/Spider-Man respectively and it's going to be exciting seeing them in their own solo films in the future. Going to the action and while it is great, a lot of it can wear you down and make you as an audience member feel tired from just watching and experiencing each moment. Kevin Feige has said in the past that this film ties up a lot of loose ends from other MCU films and it does do those scenes well, but the scene where the connection between a lot of the films happens it does feel forced and it almost becomes the "Martha" that was in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. Once again Marvel wastes a villain in Baron Helmut Zemo as well as Daniel Bruhl as an actor. He is sort of the catalyst for the film, but his scenes just don't connect well and even his motivation is forced and it just doesn't fit, but then again it goes back to connecting to the rest of the MCU. It doesn't cater well to the non-traditional MCU film fan and if this is your first MCU film you are going to be lost really quick. Overall this film was a bit of a letdown, but the its a film that sets up the future nicely and it has a lot of action-packed fun. I give Captain America: Civil War a 8.5 out of 10.
