So I recently watched A Bigger Splash and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado...
While vacationing on a Sicilian island with her boyfriend (played by Matthias Schoenaerts), a rock star (played by Tilda Swinton) receives an unexpected visit from an old flame (played by Ralph Fiennes) and his seductive daughter (played by Dakota Johnson).
This was a really strange, but very interesting film. It deals with a lot of different issues and not the way you would expect most films to deal with and it just keeps you guessing throughout the film and it makes it even more enjoyable. The performances are brilliant and the best ones come from the expected in Ralph Fiennes and Tilda Swinton. Also Dakota Johnson has improved quite a bit and she gives a really intriguing and great performance. At times the film can feel really dark, but in the next scene it can become more light-hearted and the quick shift in tones really just takes you out of the film because you don't really know what the film is trying to go for in the long run. However the shift in tones doesn't take away from the ending which is just mind-blowing to say the least and it may be the best ending of the year. Each character is developed very well and they all have their moments to shine and you grow along with the characters as the go on their journey and it becomes a film where you really study the characters and get a feel for what they are going through. There are some pretty nice visuals for a film that doesn't necessarily have a lot of visual effects, but the landscape is just breathtaking. The film does a go a little longer than it should it and there were some parts that felt out of place. Overall this is a fabulous piece of filmmaking and it's an early Oscar contender for several categories. I give A Bigger Splash an 8 out 10.
So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of A Bigger Splash, what would you rate it and what did you think of my review? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
