My Review of Being Charlie

So I recently watched Bing Charlie and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado...

Being Charlie poster.jpg

The drug-addicted son (played by Nick Robinson) of a California politician (played by Cary Elwes) finds romance with a fellow patient (played by Morgan Saylor) in rehab.

This was a really heartbreaking, but very strange film. The film tackles a lot of real world issues, but the main one is addiction and how it can change your life in a very drastic way. it feels like an omage to Requiem for a Dream, but not as cleaver or as good. It does hit the marks that you expect to hit in a film like this and the same marks are used in ever Rob Reiner film to the point of making the film predictable. The performances are what carry the film and the standout is Nick Robinison who does a great job of portraying this drug addict. However while the performance is terrific, the character itself is a despicable human being and no matter what he does, you can't cheer for him on his journey to recovery. The rest of cast just feels out of place and none of them really seem to fit in well with the story despite the performances being fairly decent. The heartbreaking moments often become overly depressing and you can't really get into the film while just having an overwhelming feeling of sadness follow you throughout the film. Overall it's a film with good intentions, but it just doesn't feel like the filmmakers ever got the story right to help those good intentions standout better and not follow the same beat by beat plan from other films. I give Being Charlie 2 out of 10.

So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of Being Charlie, what would you rate it and what did think of my review? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
