Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

Following the casting rumor for the main team that popped up earlier this week, JoBlo is now reporting on the director shortlist for Warner Bros. upcoming Justice League Dark film which they say includes the duo behind Big Bad Wolves, Aharon Keshales and Navot Papushado, plus Fede Alvarez, who previously helmed the Evil Dead remake in 2013. In addition, a new rumor from Heroic Hollywood points to more casting news for the film, namely that Rogue One: A Star Wars Story star Ben Mendelsohn is being eyed for the film’s primary villain, Anton Arcane. Featuring a script by fan favorite Guillermo del Toro, Justice League Dark is set to feature the combined efforts of DC’s mystical and weirdest heroes. Among the characters that will appear in the film are John Constantine, Swamp Thing, Deadman, Zatanna, The Demon Etrigan, and Madame Xanadu. No official announcements have been made on the film, which is known as both Justice League Dark and Dark Universe, but producer Scott Rudin has come aboard the project and the studio is reportedly eager to begin production early next year.
I personally hate both of the choices. Now I can't really hate the guys who directed Big Bad Wolves since I've never seen the film. As for Fede Alvarez, I want him stay away from this porject because I absolutely hated what he did with the Evil Dead remake and I personally wouldn't mind if he never directed a film ever again. I not that familiar with the characters that are involved in Justice League Dark, but from everything I've heard about it sounds really interesting and I'm anxious to see if Warner Bros. will go through with the production of this film.
Miramax and Broad Green Pictures announced today that Oscar, Golden Globe and Emmy winner Kathy Bates (Misery, Titanic, Dolores Claiborne) will join the Bad Santa 2 cast as as Sunny Soke, the foulmouthed, tough-as-nails mom to Billy Bob Thornton’s mall-Santa scoundrel, Willie Soke. As recently announced, Golden Globe nominee Thornton (television series ”Fargo”, Sling Blade, Simple Plan, Bandits) will reprise his signature role as Soke, the character he made famous in the raucous comedy box office hit Bad Santa (2003). Tony Cox and Brett Kelly from the original film will also return. Mark Waters (Mean Girls, Freaky Friday) will direct from a screenplay by Johnny Rosenthal, Doug Ellin (“Entourage”) and Shauna Cross (If I Stay, Whip It). Geyer Kosinski (The Astronaut Farmer, The Bad News Bears, television series “Fargo”) and Andrew Gunn (Freaky Friday) will produce. Bad Santa 2 will be executive produced by Miramax’s Zanne Devine and David Thwaites, Broad Green’s Gabriel and Daniel Hammond, Mark Waters and Jessica Tuchinsky, and Doug Ellin. Miramax and Broad Green Pictures are partnering to co-finance and co-produce the sequel with Broad Green handling U.S. theatrical distribution during the 2016 holiday season.
This is terrific casting. Anytime you can add quality talent to a film, it's always a great decision and Kathy Bates is one of those exceptional talents. We haven't really seen much of Kathy Bates lately and the only film I can vividly remember her in was The Waterboy so we know she has the comedic chops. I think this is going to be a very interesting relationship to see on screen between Thornton and Bates and I cannot was to see the film. I've said before that the first film is a film I really enjoy and I just hope they don't use the same gags from the first film and hopefully they can come up with some more original material.
Lionsgate has debuted the new, extra-crazy Red Band trailer for the Zac Efron and Robert De Niro-led raunchy comedy Dirty Grandpa. You check out the road trip antics of the Dirty Grandpa Red Band trailer below. The film follows an uptight guy named Jason Kelly (Efron) who, right before his wedding, is tricked into driving his foul-mouthed, former Army general grandfather Dick (De Niro) to Florida for spring break. Julianne Hough (Rock of Ages), Aubrey Plaza (The To-Do List), Dermot Mulroney (My Best Friend’s Wedding), Zoey Deutch (Vampire Academy), Jason Mantzoukas (“The League”), Adam Pally (“The Mindy Project”) and Henry Zebrowski (The Wolf of Wall Street) co-star in Dirty Grandpa, which is directed by Dan Mazer (I Give It a Year) from a script by John Phillips. Bill Block, Jason Barrett, Barry Josephson and Michael Simkin produce Dirty Grandpa, which will be released in theaters on January 22, 2016.
This was an awesome trailer. One thing that I can't recall off of the top of my head is seeing Robert DeNiro in a raunchy comedy like this. When I first heard about the film I was really interested in seeing, but now I defiantly want to see it because of this trailer. I also like how Zac Efron has sorta turned himself into raunchy comedic actor and I think this fits him perfectly. Plus he'll only get better acting off of a legend like DeNiro. This is going to be a fun film and it might even be the best comedy of next year.
According to The Tracking Board, Chris Hemsworth (The Avengers, Snow White and the Huntsman) is currently circling a new spec script version of H. Rider Haggard’s pulp adventure character Allan Quatermain as written Barnett Brettler (20 Mississippi). Power agency CAA is in the process of trying to attach Hemsworth to the project, which Sony Pictures is already considering to acquire. Hemsworth was previously attached to play another pulp hero in Shane Black’s big screen version of Doc Savage, although little movement has been made on that project since. First appearing in the 1885 novel “King Solomon’s Mines,” the adventurer Quatermain appeared in 14 novels penned by Haggard through 1927. The Englishman is a big game hunter and a marksman without equal, spending most of his years in South Africa during the colonial era. Although described in his first appearance as being 55 with a wiry frame and pointy white beard, none of the motion picture adaptations have stayed true to that description, although Alan Moore and Kevin O’Neill’s “League of Extraordinary Gentlemen” comics do. Quatermain was a chief inspiration for the character of Indiana Jones. The character of Quatermain has seen many adaptations over the years, starting with the Stewart Granger-led 1950 version of King Solomon’s Mines. In the mid-eighties Richard Chamberlain and Sharon Stone co-starred in two Quatermain movies, shot back-to-back by the infamous Cannon Films as a cash-in on the Indiana Jones craze. The late Patrick Swayze also played the character in a two-part miniseries version of “Mines” for the Hallmark Channel in 2004, while Sean Connery made The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen his cinematic swan song in 2003, although that film’s version of an elderly Quatermain bared little resemblance to the drug-addled version of Moore’s comic book. While Hemsworth has yet to officially attach himself to Allan Quatermain, he will next be seen in Ron Howard’s similarly 1800s-set In the Heart of the Sea in December, and then in The Huntsman Winter’s War. He will play a secretary named Kevin in Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters reboot, and will reprise his phenomenally-popular title role in Marvel’s 2017 sequel Thor: Ragnarok.
If this were to come true then this is terrific casting. Chris Hemsworth has really become a household name and he has tried a lot of different roles outside of his MCU duties as Thor and I think that's great because it shows he can be successful when his time as Thor is up. I've personally never read and Alan Quartemain novel so I don't know much about the character other than the portrayal Sean Connery gave us back in 2003. I really hope this comes to fruition because Hemsworth seems like the perfect fit for the role.
Plans for a sixth film in the immensely popular Mission: Impossible franchise are moving forward today as Variety reports that Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation director and co-writer Christopher McQuarrie is in talks to return for the next franchise installment. According to the trade, McQuarrie is set to write and will potentially direct M:I6 as well. Tom Cruise is already confirmed to reprise his role as Ethan Hunt for the new film with production set to begin as early as August 2016. Christopher McQuarrie initially made a name for himself as a screenwriter, winning an Academy Award for his work on Bryan Singer’s 1995 crime thriller The Usual Suspects. In 2000, McQuarrie made his directorial debut with the neo-Western The Way of the Gun, starring Rryan Phillippe and Benicio Del Toro. In 2008, Christopher McQuarrie reteamed with Singer, scripting the true World War II tale Valkyrie, which starred Tom Cruise. Since then, McQuarrie has written and directed two additional Cruise films, including the Lee Child adaptation Jack Reacher in 2012 and, earlier this year, Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation. Christopher McQuarrie scripted Rogue Nation alongside Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3). Released on July 31, the film went on to gross more than $682 million at the worldwide box office. Also starring Jeremy Renner (Marvel’s The Avengers, Kill the Messenger), Alec Baldwin (The Departed, “30 Rock”), Simon Pegg (Star Trek, The World’s End), Ving Rhames (Pulp Fiction, Dawn of the Dead), Simon McBurney (The Last King of Scotland, The Theory of Everything) and Rebecca Ferguson (Hercules, The Red Tent), Rogue Nation is slated to arrive on DVD and Blu-ray December 15. If Christopher McQuarrie signs on to direct Mission: Impossible 6, he will become the first director to helm more than one entry in the auteur-driven franchise. Brian De Palma directed the first Mission: Impossible, which was followed by sequels helmed by John Woo, J.J, Abrams and Brad Bird.
This would be absolutely fantastic if McQuarrie accepts. I thought McQuarrie was an excellent addition to the film and his style fit really well with the franchise. Like the article said we've never had a director do multiple films in the franchise and I'm glad that we are finally getting that. Mission Impossible 5 isn't my favorite film in the franchise, but it was a nice addition and I'm looking forward to seeing what McQuarrie can do with another film.
