1-27-15 Movie News

Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

(NOTE: All of these stories come from comingsoon.net)

Hot on the heels of last night’s costume reveal, 20th Century Fox has debuted a teaser trailer for the upcoming Fantastic Four and you can check it out in the player below. An origin story said to be inspired largely by the “Ultimate Fantastic Four” comics (the first arc of which was written by Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Millar with Joe Kubert illustrating), Fantastic Four offers a contemporary re-imagining of Marvel’s original and longest-running superhero team. The story centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy. “Marvel’s First Family” will include Whiplash‘s Miles Teller as Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic), “House of Cards” star Kate Mara as Sue Storm (The Invisible Woman), Fruitvale Station and Chronicle‘s Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm (The Human Torch) and The Adventures of Tintin‘s Jamie Bell as Ben Grimm (The Thing). Dawn of the Planet of the Apes‘ Toby Kebbell will also star as Doctor Doom alongside Reg E. Cathey (“The Wire”) as as Dr. Franklin Storm and Tim Blake Nelson (O Brother, Where Art Thou?) as Harvey Elder, aka The Mole Man. Directed by Josh Trank (Chronicle), Fantastic Four features a screenplay by Simon Kinberg (X-Men: Days of Future Past) and is set to hit the big screen August 7.

Well we finally got the trailer a lot of us have been waiting for and I have to say that it was an alright trailer. It do its job by teasing us with a few things about the film. I really like the dark ominous tone and I actually think that this film has a lot of potential. Now it could be really bad, but I'm hoping it isn't and I'm looking forward to the film.

Of the members of the Suicide Squad that will appear in Warner Bros.’ upcoming feature film, Harley Quinn has the most unique accent among them. That particular style of speaking appears to be in good hands though with The Wolf of Wall Street star Margot Robbie bringing the character to life on the big screen. SuperHeroHype caught up with Robbie at the Sundance Film Festival where she revealed that not only is she excited to work with director David Ayer, but that the accent itself hasn’t been solidified just yet.“None of those things have been set in stone at this point, but according to the comics, she’s from New York and I think Brooklyn, so there may be a slight… I couldn’t imagine it would be as strong as the Wolf of Wall Street accent,” she said. “The lingo will be the difference between that and the other character I played in ‘Wolf’ but I don’t know yet. We haven’t spoken about it.” Robbie is joined by an all-star cast for the film which also includes Will Smith as Deadshot, Jared Leto as The Joker, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller. Written and directed by David Ayer, Suicide Squad will hit theaters on August 5, 2016.

I really like these comments. When I first heard that Harley Quinn was going to be appearing in Suicide Squad Margot Robbie was my first choice simply because of her accent in The Wolf of Wall Street. I honestly feel that that accent is perfect for the character and plus she is absolutely gorgeous. I'm excited for the film and I cannot wait to see Robbie portray Harley Quinn.

Although the outlet is sure to note that plans are in very early stages, Deadline is reporting that Walt Disney Pictures and Lucasfilm are eyeing Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt to potentially replace Harrison Ford as the headlining star of the Indiana Jones franchise! Although the most recent big screen adventure, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, was not entirely a hit with critics, the fourth film in the series managed to gross more than $786 million worldwide when it was released in 2008. Shortly thereafter, George Lucas hinted that plans were underway for a fifth cinematic adventure, but he admitted that he had yet to decide on a MacGuffin (A term popularized by Alfred Hitchcock, referring to a narrative element that drives the story forward, such as the Ark of the Covenant in Raiders of the Lost Ark). Following the sale of Lucasfilm to Walt Disney Pictures and Lucas’ own subsequent retirement, however, hints regarding plans for the future of the franchise have been few and far between. Ford, however, has suggested that he’s quite eager to reprise the role himself, despite turning 73 this year. Pratt, who also starred last year in The LEGO Movie, is rapidly rising as a Hollywood star. He’ll appear this summer in director Colin Trevorrow’s Jurassic World and is set to star opposite Denzel Washington in Antoine Fuqua’s upcoming remake of The Magnificent Seven.

I think this is a great idea. Chris Pratt is on a hot-streak right now and he is the perfect choice to replace Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones. He has the charisma and the comedic sensibility to play the part extremely well. Hopefully this rumor comes true and if it does these films will be really amazing.

It’s official! Meet your new Ghostbusters! Paul Feig, the director of the upcoming reboot, just took to Twitter to reveal his new cast. Headlining the supernatural comedy are Kristen Wiig (Bridesmaids, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty), Melissa McCarthy (The Heat, Tammy), Leslie Jones (“Saturday Night Live,” Top Five) and Kate McKinnon (“Saturday Night Live,” Life Partners). A remake of director Ivan Reitman’s 1984 comedy classic, Feig’s take on the property is said to be targeting a scarier tone that will not maintain any continuity with the original film or its 1989 sequel (or the surprisingly continuity-heavy animated series “The Real Ghostbusters,” for that matter). Back in September, original Ghostbusters star Bill Murray revealed his own “fan cast” for a female-driven franchise reboot, which included both McCarthy (his St. Vincent co-star) and Wiig alongside Linda Cardinelli (“Freaks and Geeks,” “Mad Men”) and Emma Stone (The Help, The Amazing Spider-Man). Plans call for Ghostbusters to shoot this summer in New York. Paul Feig announced via Twitter that Ghostbusters will be released on July 22, 2016. There, it will face off against Power Rangers and Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur. Sony Pictures has, meanwhile, tweeted the below teaser poster for the film.

Ghostbusters Reboot

This is a pretty great cast. These 4 are absolutely hilarious with two of them previously working with Paul Feig (Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy worked with him on Bridesmaids) and Leslie Jones has brought new life into SNL along with Kat McKinnon. As for the film itself I'm a little mixed about it because the franchise is so dear to me and I don't' know if a I want it to happen or not. I have faith in the director and the cast so I hope they can do the previous two films justice.

With the much anticipated sequel having received the green light in November, casting is now underway on director Roland Emmerich’s Independence Day 2. TheWrap today reports that Liam Hemsworth (The Hunger Games, The Expendables 2) has been offered a leading role. Set to hit theaters June 24, 2016 (almost exactly 20 years after the original), Independence Day 2 is looking to begin production in May with a script most recently rewritten by Carter Blanchard (best known for the short-lived 2009 series “G vs E”). Previous drafts were done by Emmerich and Dean Devlin, and then by James Vanderbilt. Although Will Smith will not be returning, both Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman are expected to reprise their roles as David Levinson and President Thomas J. Whitmore, respectively. Hemsworth can next be seen in Kieran Darcy-Smith’s By Way of Helena, reteaming with Hunger Games franchise co-star Woody Harrelson. He’ll follow that with a role opposite Kate Winsley and Sarah Snook in Jocelyn Moorhouse’s The Dressmaker before returning to Panem for one last time in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2, hitting theaters on November 20. The original Independence Day opened on July 3, 1996 and earned an impressive $817.4 million worldwide. Emmerich is also set to produce the sequel alongside Devlin and Harald Kloser.

I think that this is great casting if true. I know a lot of people don't like Liam Hemsworth and I can see why, but he is a talented actor that has been overshadowed in the major films he has been apart of. I think he is a good fit for the film and he'll also bring a younger audience to the film as well.
