1-20-15 Movie News

Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

(NOTE: All of these stories come from comingsoon.net)

With over 30 credits to his name, fight choreographer Guillermo Grispo has aided Conan, Wolverine and Kick-Ass in their onscreen fisticuffs, but he’s told Los Andes Diario (via Batman News) that he will help the Caped Crusader bring da ruckus like never before in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. “There’s a thought that Batman has no chance, that the Superman will squash him like a bug,” says Grispo. “But when you see the movie, and how it all comes out, there’s a very intelligent explanation as to why they would have a firsthand confrontation, though it seems to be totally to Batman’s disadvantage.” As seen in the San Diego Comic-Con test reel, Ben Affleck’s Batman will be wearing Frank Miller’s classic “Dark Knight Returns” armor, no doubt with Kryptonite-enhanced gloves, yet at the end of the day it might be Bruce Wayne’s beat-down abilities that give him the edge against Henry Cavill’s Supes.

“Now Batman is going to fight the way I’ve always dreamed seeing him fight,” Grispo boasts. “He’s a character so prepared in martial arts that you can do a lot of things with him, but filmmakers usually don’t go all the way with it. Even in the last Nolan movies the action scenes aren’t very good from a technical, martial arts point of view to things like choreography, filming, bad camera movements…” Grispo then goes on to bolster Batman v Superman director Zack Snyder’s reputation as an action maestro, having collaborated on the choreography for 300, Sucker Punch and Man of Steel. “Don’t get me wrong, Nolan is great, my hats off to him… but I think that he did not pay too much attention to the fights,” adds Grispo. “Those are the kind of details that Zack, being so physical himself, loves preparing. I think there’s going to be a big difference when you see these Batman fights in comparison to the previous ones.” Starring Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Laurence Fishburne, Diane Lane, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons, Jena Malone, Holly Hunter and Scoot McNairy, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters on March 25, 2016.

I really enjoy these comments. Now I know people want to focus on Batman fighting, but let's not stray from the fact that he is the world's greatest detective so attention has to be payed towards that. But I will say that Grispo is right with what Nolan did by not focusing on the fighting aspect of the caped crusader. All I know is I hope that the big battle between the two is as epic as the one in The Dark Knight Returns (if you haven't read it then go read it now) and I cannot wait to see this film.

Back when it was revealed that Ryan Reynolds would reprise his role of Deadpool for Fox’s upcoming film, a March start date was also announced, and now GlobalNews.ca has learned that production on the film will be set up in Reynolds’ home town of Vancouver. No stranger to comic book films, Vancouver was also the home to both “Fantastic Four” movies as well as X2: X-Men United, X-Men: The Last Stand, and X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Fox’s other “X” film, X-Men: Apocalypse, will shoot in Montreal in April. Ryan Reynolds will reprise the role he played in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Wade Wilson, the Merc with the Mouth, though given how that film was received (and the ending to last year’s X-Men: Days of Future Past), it’s possible that film will not be acknowledged at all in the 2016 release. Comedian T.J. Miller and Ed Skrein are also in talks for roles in the film. Tim Miller is set to direct the film from a script by Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Deadpool is currently set for a release on February 12, 2016.

This is a pretty great location. Vancouver is a very beautiful town from what I've seen in pictures and it seems like the perfect place to film a film. The city has been the home to plenty of comic book films and I say if if ain't broke don't fix it. I have been dreaming for this film to happen and now that we are getting it I couldn't be more excited.

In 2013, we got a look at what a $200 million zombie movie looks like. World War Z, the Brad Pitt-starring, Marc Forster-directed adaptation of Max Brooks’ oral history of the zombie war took on the aesthetic of a disaster blockbuster and rode its wave of digital zombies to box office success. Of course, a sequel is in order and Indiewire‘s Thompson on Hollywood spoke to its writer, the stellar Steven Knight. Knight, who penned Cronenberg’s great Eastern Promises and UK TV hit Peaky Blinders, spoke to the site about his feature directorial debut and one of last year’s best films, Locke. Looking ahead, he talks of writing the treatment for the upcoming World War Z follow-up and briefly says, “I thought, ‘why not? What fun.’ It’s not quite like the other, we’re starting with clean slate. When they’ve signed off we’re on.” World War Z soldiered through behind-the-scenes struggles, infamously scrapping an entire third act in favor of the film’s current incarnation. Where does it all go from here? World War Z 2 is expected to get underway this October, so we’ll see in fall 2016.

This is the right move. Look I'll be the first to admit that I wasn't that big of a fan of World War Z and the behind-the-scenes stories are just crazy when you hear them for the first time. With that being said a clean slate is what is needed for the sequel and the franchise. The franchise itself has a lot of potential and I'm hoping the sequel can help rebuild it.

Studio Canal have released a new international trailer for The Gunman, which features Sean Penn in his first action movie role. Check it out below! An adaptation of Jean-Patrick Manchette’s “The Prone Gunman,” Sean Penn stars as Jim Terrier, an international operative who is betrayed by the organization he worked for, and must go on the run in a relentless game of cat and mouse across Europe. Also starring Ray Winstone, Jasmine Trinca, Javier Bardem, Idris Elba, and Mark Rylance, the Pierre Morel-directed film will open in theaters on March 20, 2015.

This was a pretty awesome trailer. We have never seen Sean Penn do an action movie and right now as it stands the film looks to be pretty darn cool. It has an interesting cast and what I could gather from the trailer it has an interesting plot and I'm hoping this is a success so we can see more of Sean Penn in these types of roles.

A hot new trailer for director Joe Lynch’s action-thriller Everly has exploded on iTunes Trailers and can be watched below! In Everly, Salma Hayek takes no prisoners as a femme fatale unleashing the ultimate vengeance against a sadistic mob boss and his army of assassins. To be distributed by RADiUS-TWC on iTunes on January 23 and in theaters on February 27, the R-rated film stars co-stars Togo Igawa, Hiroyuki Watanabe, Laura Cepeda and Akie Kotabe.

This was a pretty cool trailer. Now let's be honest the film looks like it will suck, but seeing Selma Hayek (one of the most beautiful women in the world) in an action role is pretty amazing. Like I said before the film will be terrible, but I'll at least see it because of Selma Hayek.
