4-26-14 Movie News

Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

(NOTE: All of these stories come from screenrant.com)

In an interview with MTV, Dane DeHann offers something of a nostalgic/sardonic look back on his past on hemming and hawing about just exactly how Harry Osborn fits into this incarnation of the Spidey world, along with new insights into Goblin’s role in Sinister Six and the approach to this version of the villain. As for the look of this Goblin, DeHaan said:

“We went through a couple incarnations of it and ultimately tried to make it more and more organic and more real and made sure it tied in with Harry’s storyline. There is still a lot of Harry in the Goblin, and we wanted to honor what the Goblin’s always looked like. But we knew I couldn't be walking around in a purple skirt and tank top and a skull cap.”

And what of the Green Goblin’s involvement with the Sinister Six? When pressed for details about his character inclusion in the now-confirmed Super-Villain All-Star Jam, DeHaan deflected again, saying: “I don’t know, you know, I hope so. There’s six slots. […] I don’t know, I don’t know anything. I have no idea. I’m just happy to be here.”

I really enjoy these comments. First for the goblin's look, I'm glad they went with more of a realistic look and something that isn't cartoony. As for the sinister six, listen from all I know and have heard, the green goblin  is definitely in the sinister six.

Many Star Wars fans had their world rocked when it was confirmed that the Expanded Universe would be rebooted to coexist with forthcoming trilogy of movies. As Lucasfilm embarks on this new era of the franchise, all future events and storylines will be overseen by a master “story group” that will be responsible for coordinating the Star Wars canon across all media into one cohesive timeline.

Still, with Episode VII’s release roughly 18 months away, fans are understandably frustrated by the lack of official updates about the direction of the new Star Wars trilogy. This may change very soon, however, as a BIG Star Wars announcement is expected on, of all days, Star Wars Day – May 4th, 2014.

By god I hope so. I mean fans (including myself) have been dying to hear who will be in Episode 7 and this seems the time to do it. For those that don't know May 4th is important because we in the star wars family call it May the 4th be with you referencing the slogan in star wars know as may the force be with you.

Teasing fans a little more, Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn tweeted a new image of Chris Pratt in his Star-Lord gear (which you can check out below). Along with the image, Gunn tweeted: “Knock knock. Who’s there?”

This looks awesome. No one knows how excited I am for this movie. This image just reassures me that I think this film has the potential to put the superhero/comic book movie genre in a whole new direction and will open up the avenues for so many other small characters to get their chance.

Filmmaker Steven Spielberg is famous for his block-busting, but he’s made a habit of shooting prestigious dramas back-to-back with crowd-pleasing tentpoles; beginning with Schindler’s List and Jurassic Park in 1993, Spielberg did it again as recently as 2011, with War Horse and The Adventures of Tintin. While the director has been circling a handful of high-minded historical motion pictures of late, these past couple weeks it’s seemed as though his next trick would be to move ahead with production on his delayed apocalyptic sci-fi thriller, fittingly titled Robopocalypse. However, in a surprise twist, the news has now emerged that Spielberg’s next big-budget venture will be a live-action adaptation of the Roald Dahl novel The BFG.

The BFG  tells the story of young orphan Sophie, who is whisked away one night by the Big Friendly Giant (BFG for short): a kind, jolly giant, whose job is to deliver pleasant dreams to children, even though he hales from a faraway land populated by larger, blood-thirsty giants.

This is some interesting news to hear. Right now Stephen Spielberg is potentially working on 3 other projects (The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara, Montezuma and film based on the true-story of  of James Donovan) not including The BFG. He's going to be a busy man and with talks of a potential Indiana Jones 5 on the way, it doesn't look to be headed to the big screen anytime soon.

As proof that absolutely any beloved children’s property from the 1980s can be rebooted in live-action, the cartoon series Jem and The Holograms – following a girl and her band of best friends as they experiment with stardom and holographic projection – is currently in production, led by director John M. Chu.

It was assumed that given the requirements of the leading lady, the actress playing Jem would have some musical background – a notion now proven with the casting of Aubrey Peeples, of ABC’s Nashville. The rest of her Holograms (as reported by THR) are being entrusted to a number of young actresses who may give a better sense of the PG-rating and attitude the finished film will be seeking. Playing the part of Jem/Jerrica’s little sister Kimber will be Stefanie Scott, Aurora Perrineau as Shana, and Hayley Kiyoko roundding out the group.

Look when they announced this I had absoleutly no idea what it was or what is was about. Then after reading about it I still didn't care anymore about it. Listen, this news is great that they got soemone to sing, but honestly that won't matter if she can't act and honestly this has the stench of Josie and The Pussycats written all over it.

So there you have it ladies and gentlemen, which of these stories peaked your interest or was there another story that interested you? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
