4-21-14 Movie News

Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

(NOTE: All of these stories come from comingsoon.net)

Even though "The Amazing Spider-Man" film series has done a good job of bringing in characters previously unseen on the big screen, many fans have been wondering when other fan favorites will be making a return, such as The Daily Bugle editor-in-chief, J. Jonah Jameson. While taking part in a Google+ Hangout, director Marc Webb was asked if we would be seeing him in the future, to which he replied:

"I like the idea very much of him coming up in the next film. It was more easy to accept a new Spider-Man than someone who could out do J.K. Simmons in that role, he is so iconic. That's something we've really talked about. Obviously I love that character because he poses such an interesting dilemma for Spider-Man. The answer is I don't know, but I think you can expect to see him in the future."

Jameson has been teased a number of times by The Daily Bugle viral site for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and while this is far from an official announcement. it does seem likely we'll be seeing JJJ in the near future, especially with The Amazing Spider-Man 3 dated for June 10, 2016. You can check out the rest of the Google+ Hangout with Webb and stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, and Dane DeHaan below.

This statement really points out so great things. First he mentions J.K. Simmons who did a marvelous job of portraying J. Jonah Jameson and I would really like to see Sony bring him back for this rebooted franchise. The second thing is that we could and more than likely will see Jameson. I mean he is a pretty essential character to the Spider-Man-universe and when Mark Webb says "I don't know" he actually means yes.

The Motion picture, television and theater producing team of Craig Zadan and Neil Meron are set to return to produce the Oscars for a third consecutive year, Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs announced today. The 87th Oscars will air live on the ABC Television Network on Oscar Sunday, February 22, 2015.“We couldn't be more thrilled to have Craig and Neil back to produce the Oscars again in 2015,” said Boone Isaacs. “Their showmanship has elevated the show to new heights and we are excited to keep the momentum going with this creative partnership.”

“This year’s show reached viewers of all ages and set social media records, proving that Craig and Neil are masters at tapping into the zeitgeist and capturing the hearts of movie fans around the world,” said Academy CEO Dawn Hudson.“We are delighted to work with Cheryl, Dawn and the Academy to produce the Oscars for a third time,” said Zadan and Meron. “We’re proud of the show’s success over the last two years and are eager to embark on another entertaining show to honor this year’s motion pictures.”

The 86th Oscars aired on March 2 and marked the return of host Ellen DeGeneres, and featured memorable musical performances by artists including Pharrell Williams and U2, a tribute to “The Wizard of Oz” by Pink, and a star-studded, record-breaking selfie seen around the world.

I really enjoy this news. I've enjoyed the past two Oscar ceremonies and it's mostly because of these two. They've moved the show along at a nice pace and have brought in two really good hosts (eventhough I'm not the biggest Ellen DeGeneres fan) and I can't wai to see what they do next year.

In the wake of David Fincher's departure from the project last week, Sony Pictures' untitled Steve Jobs biopic has scored the attention of some more major talent. The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Danny Boyle (127 Hours, Slumdog Millionaire) is eyeing the director's chair with Leonardo DiCaprio being targeted to star. The pair previously worked together on 2000's The Beach.Adapted by The Social Network's Aaron Sorkin and to be produced by that film's Scott Rudin, the biopic is to be based on Walter Isaacson's best-selling biography, which is described as follows:

Based on more than forty interviews with Jobs conducted over two years—as well as interviews with more than a hundred family members, friends, adversaries, competitors, and colleagues—Walter Isaacson has written a riveting story of the roller-coaster life and searingly intense personality of a creative entrepreneur whose passion for perfection and ferocious drive revolutionized six industries: personal computers, animated movies, music, phones, tablet computing, and digital publishing. At a time when America is seeking ways to sustain its innovative edge, and when societies around the world are trying to build digital-age economies, Jobs stands as the ultimate icon of inventiveness and applied imagination. He knew that the best way to create value in the twenty-first century was to connect creativity with technology. He built a company where leaps of the imagination were combined with remarkable feats of engineering.

Driven by demons, Jobs could drive those around him to fury and despair. But his personality and products were interrelated, just as Apple's hardware and software tended to be, as if part of an integrated system. His tale is instructive and cautionary, filled with lessons about innovation, character, leadership, and values.

If you need to replace a director like David Fincher then there is no one better to do it with than Danny Boyle. This guy has an amazing talent and he is one of the best directors in Hollywood today. Now the only concern is Leonardo DiCaprio. Now don't get me wrong I'm a huge fan but I just don't see him as Steve Jobs. But who knows I'll probably be wrong (usually am) and he could knock this out of the park and this could be the role that wins him that elusive Oscar.

Director Steven Spielberg appears to be eyeing another project with leading man Tom Hanks. The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Hanks has signed on to headline an untitled Cold War thriller and that Spielberg is tentatively planning to helm.

Based on the true story of James Donovan, the project -- scripted by Matt Charman -- follows the American attorney who was tasked with negotiating the release of pilot Gary Powers in the wake of 1960's U-2 spy plane incident.

I really like hearing this news. Tom Hanks and Stephen Spielberg have done some amazing work together. I'm also curious to see them do another war movie. But his concerns me especially with Spielberg could be a busy man with Robopocalypse and The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara possibly in the works as well.

The first in a stand-alone trilogy, Terminator: Genesis stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Emilia Clarke, Jason Clarke, Jai Courtney, J.K. Simmons, Dayo Okeniyi, Byung-hun Lee, Michael Gladis and Sandrine Holt with Laeta Kalorgridis (Avatar, Shutter Island) and Patrick Lussier (Drive Angry) attached to write the screenplay. Thor: The Dark World's Alan Taylor is directing, targeting a July 1, 2015 release.

I glad to hear this news. there's always a joy that happens in which after you've heard about a movie coming and then it comes out that production has finally started. I'm really excited about this movie and I'm also glad that Arnold Schwarzenegger is back to be the terminator.
