Hello ladies and gentlemen, here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...
(NOTE: All of these stories come from screenrant.com)
Speaking with Empire Magazine, Marvel president Kevin Feige teased a few of those bigger and better films. Specifically, Edgar Wright’s upcoming Ant-Man and its connection to The Avengers: Age of Ultron. He also commented on Batman vs. Superman moving to the same weekend as Captain America 3.
But first, Feige confirmed not only that Thanos will appear in this summer’s Guardians of the Galaxy, he also hinted at the casting, saying, “There is an actor. I’m not sure we want to announce it yet.” Which could mean one of two things, seeing as we don’t know how Thanos is going to be realized in Guardians.
Moving on to Ant-Man, Feige reveals it’s a film that’s been key to the MCU for years, and in fact, it appears Ant-Man is what set a lot of their earlier films in motion:
“It was two things – a story Edgar wanted to tell that we’ll see with Michael Douglas and Paul Rudd, and now we’re 11 films in, it’s looking at the characters we've already introduced who already have the technology and the brains to do…certain things [laughs].“We changed, frankly, some of the MCU to accommodate this version of ‘Ant-Man.’ Knowing what we wanted to do with Edgar and with ‘Ant-Man,’ going years and years back, helped to dictate what we did with the roster for ‘Avengers’ the first time. It was a bit of both in terms of his idea for the ‘Ant-Man’ story influencing the birth of the MCU in the early films leading up to ‘Avengers.’ “
Leaving all this speculation aside, Feige is all too aware of the recent readjustment to Batman vs. Superman‘s release date and how it now pits the film against Captain America 3, but he isn't fazed:“We had the flag there first. What other people do and where has always been less of our concern. It’s about keeping our head down and doing what we would believe would be cool for an audience to see.”
And honestly, keeping their eyes on their on work and not bothering with what the “other people” are doing seems to be working out just fine for Marvel. Though it’s worth noting that Disney’s Alan Thorn recently said they were “struggling with” releasing Cap 3 at the same time as Batman vs. Superman, so it may not be up to Feige in the end.
Feige pointed out some great things in this interview. First let's talk about Thanos, now for those that didn't know he's the big ol' purple guy that you see smiling in the mid-credits scene of The Avengers. For those that didn't know he's a big-time player in Guardians of the Galaxy so it's no surprise that he'll be in the film, but I'm really curious who will be playing him (Nathan Fillion anyone)?
As for the Ant-Man news, I'm very anxious to see how the plays into The Avengers 3. Yes they've changed the story around a bit but honestly I don't care and I can't wait to see it. On the Cap 3 news, yes it is true that it is going up against Batman vs. Superman (for now). This game of chicken is starting to get silly. One of these films will have to move dates or else both will suffer at the box office.
Jane Got a Gun is a passion project for Oscar-winner Natalie Portman, though it came unexpectedly close to collapsing at the last moment (quite literally). For reasons that have yet to be fully explained in public, acclaimed filmmaker Lynne Ramsay (We Need to Talk About Kevin) didn't show up on the first scheduled day of production; over the weeks that followed, a handful of high-profile actors played musical chairs with the role of the film’s antagonist (before Ewan McGregor accepted the gig), while director Gavin O’Connor (Warrior) jumped in head-first to serve as Ramsay’s replacement
Jane Got a Gun – based on the original script by Brian Duffield (Insurgent) – is now slated to hit U.S. theaters on February 20th, 2015.Jane Got a Gun is a tale about a woman (Portman) who seeks help from her former lover (Joel Edgerton) to protect her family from dangerous outlaws.
This film has had so many problems and I'm surprised it's still coming out. I really like the concept but I don't know how good the film will be with all of the chaos that surrounds it.
Paramount has scheduled the new cinematic adaptation of Ben-Hur to open during that month in 2016 – February 26th that year. he new Ben-Hur film is being sold as a re-adaptation of the Lew Wallace 19th century novel “Ben-Hur: A Tale of Christ”; one which pays greater attention to the experiences of Jesus Christ – as depicted in the book – than William Wyler’s 1959 movie adaptation does.
I don't really like hearing this news. I feel that Ben-Hur is one of those classics that shouldn't be touched. Also I don't like that the film will be following along more with the book. I feel that that ruins a movie goers experience and the filmmakers just to much of a book into the film that it waters it down and makes it boring.
It’s time for DC Comics fans to take a big heaping spoonful of salt with the latest rumor concerning Batman vs. Superman, since it not only follow months of speculation surrounding the Man of Steel sequel, but centers on one actor who has been rumored for the film for just as long. After prior reports that Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones, Conan the Barbarian) had joined the cast of the movie as a possible Aquaman, the latest rumor claims he has, in fact joined the cast in an official capacity.
Since the report itself is far from official – coming from a “source” of Batman-News.com – it should be pointed out that the exact role Momoa has landed is a complete mystery. Since this rumor comes hot on the heels of news that Ray Fisher will appear as Cyborg a.k.a. Victor Stone in some form, there will be plenty who jump on this news as yet more confirmation that Batman vs. Superman is all but an official Justice League team-up.
Dear god I hope not. Look I think Momoa is a great actor and he has a bright future, but we don't need more superheros in a film called BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN!!!!!! He may be only playing a small part and may not make a difference, but my god let this just be the movie fans have been waiting for forever and not a Justice League prequel.
Deadline reports that Zombieland screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are now set to script Watch Dogs, which is being co-produced with Sony and New Regency. Watch Dogs, tells the story of hacker Aiden Pearce who delves into the lives of his fellow Chicago citizens – into his own past – using a highly modified smart phone.
I'm indifferent to hear this news. The game Watch Dogs looks to be awesome and I can't wait to get my hands a hold of it. With that being said I don't know if it can be a great movie or not. Honestly I've seen the gameplay of the game and I just don't think that it can transition well into film, but we'll have to wait and see.
So there you have it ladies and gentlemen, which of these stories peaked your interest or was there another story that interested you? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
