My Review of The Mountain Between Us

So I recently watched The Mountain Between Us and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado...

Stranded on a mountain after a tragic plane crash, two strangers must work together to endure the extreme elements of the remote, snow-covered terrain. Realizing that help is not on the way, they embark on a perilous journey across hundreds of miles of wilderness, pushing each other to survive and discovering their inner strength.

This is a pretty predictable film with some really great acting. The film itself of the surface is very simple in its structure and it follows a lot of familiar beats to survival films like it. One thing that this film has over films like it is the fact you have two top-notch actors leading the way in Kate Winslett and Idris Elba who are both phenomenal in the film. The both have great chemistry and it's because of that chemistry that you actually care about the characters and you really do wonder if they can survive. As mentioned before the structure of the film isn't something new and when certain things happen you can pretty much gauge the outcome. One thing that is very bothersome about this film is that it overlooks the survival aspect and more or less focuses on the love aspect between the characters. In doing so you're trying to throw the audience off on whether or not they do have a chance to survive. You add unnecessary tension to the film when the stakes were already pretty high. Also when you make this type of film you don't need to forcefully put two things together that don't mesh and the type of film this film wanted to be just doesn't work. The films does repeat a lot of moments throughout the film and it just goes on and on for far too long. Visually the film is stunning and the cinematography is great as it captures the natural landscapes of the mountain range and it really just makes you feel as if you are there with them and that is the main goal of cinematography and it does it's job well in this film. Another thing is the ending of the film and when a film needs to end its needs to end and not drag on  with filler material and this film does that. Overall this film has some really great acting and cinematography, but outside of that the plot is murky and poorly structured and the film just doesn't know what it wants to be. I give The Mountain Between Us a 3 out of 10.
