My Review of Friend Request

So I recently watched Friend Request and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado...

Laura (played by Alycia Debnam-Carey) is a popular college student who graciously accepts an online friend request from Marina (played by Liesl Ahlers), a young social outcast. To everyone's shock, Marina takes her own life after Laura decides to unfriend her. Soon, a disturbing and mysterious video appears on Laura's profile and her Facebook contacts slowly dwindle. When her friends suddenly begin to die one by one, the frightened young woman must figure out a way to stop the carnage before it's too late.

In a year that has had some great horror films, this film reminds us all that there are more bad than good horror films. The plot of the film is something we've seen in films and it was basically the plot of the film Unfriended  which just came out two years ago and the only difference is that this film isn't a found footage film. Even with all that, the film starts off like the premise could actually work again and instead they try to mix The Exorcist into modern day horror films and that just isn't a great combination. The scares in the film are ok at best and none of them are very memorable and even some of them are pretty weak in terms of a scare value. Now you could say "well IT isn't scary and it was a good movie so why isn't this a good movie" and while that is true to an extent, this film doesn't have the character development or emotional connection that IT has. Eventhough it's not as scary as you would think, IT had a lot of creepy images that you will talk about for a long time and none of those types of moments are in this film. When you have a film that has scary and creepy moments and you could care less what happens to the characters, then you have a bad film in general. Overall this is a pretty generic horror film that has a lot going for it, but there are some decent scares that might give you a couple of nightmares. I give Friend Request a 2 out of 10.

So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of Friend Request, what would you rate it and what did you think of my review? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
