My Review of Jack Reacher

With Jack Reacher: Never Go Back set to hit theaters this weekend, I thought it would be fitting to review its predecessor Jack Reacher. So without further ado...

The poster shows a man, injured and holding a gun, standing in front of a car. Text at the bottom reveals the tagline and in bottom reveals the film's main actor and title, credits, rating and release date.

One morning in an ordinary town, five people are shot dead in a seemingly random attack. All evidence points to a single suspect: an ex-military sniper who is quickly brought into custody. The man's interrogation yields one statement: Get Jack Reacher (played by Tom Cruise). Reacher, an enigmatic ex-Army investigator, believes the authorities have the right man but agrees to help the sniper's defense attorney (played by Rosamund Pike). However, the more Reacher delves into the case, the less clear-cut it appears.

This is a fun film to watch. Tom Cruise by far is an action star and it's what he does best and he really shows it in this film. Now he doesn't put much of his body on the line like he does in the Mission Impossible films, but he still does do some cray things in this film to look remarkable. The action in the film is a fast paced and it makes him look like a freak of nature at times and it's one of the cooler things to see. As a film, it just comes off as plain, unoriginal and just your run of the mill typical action film. There are some interesting storytelling elements that can keep you interested, but they've been done time and time again to where you almost expect them. Outside of Tom Cruise the acting is decent from some good actors who make the film a little watchable and they keep you interested in the film. Both Cruise and director Christopher McQuarrie work well together in creating a character that goes along with great franchise builders like James Bond, Jack Ryan and even Jason Bourne. Why is it that all of your spy/action thrillers all have characters that have a first name that starts with a J? Anyway this is a good start to a franchise with a lot of deep material to build off of for the future. Overall this is a decent action film that has some good moments with no original story really hurts it, but it does a nice job of building towards a bigger universe for the franchise going forward. I give Jack Reacher a 6 out of 10.

So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of Jack Reacher, what would you rate it, are you excited to see Jack Reacher: Never Go Back and what did you think of my review? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
