Rouge One: A Star Wars Story Trailer Discussion

Earlier this weekend the first official trailer for Rouge One: A Star Wars Story was released and being the Star Wars fan that I am, I thought it would be fitting to give my thoughts on the trailer and how the outlook looks for the film. So without further ado...

First off let me say that this trailer is just absolutely amazing. The film just looks so gorgeous and it's a credit to cinematographer Greg Fraser who has done some amazing work in the past and while he's been on the cusp of getting an Academy Award nomination, I think he'll definitely be in the running next year. Here recently there have been a lot rumors flying around that the film is a mess and that it has having to go through extensive reshoots. First off those rumors are false and a little now fact in filmmaking, studios always schedule a period of time after principal photography to have reshoots if they are necessary so it's not a big shock that they are doing reshoots. Now could the film be a mess, yes, but I highly doubt it because if the film had problems, then Lucasfilm would be smart enough to move the film back or calm down the marketing campaign to shield the film from scrutiny.

One thing that we were promised last year at Star Wars Celebration was that this film is going to be an all out war film and by the looks of this trailer we are getting exactly just that. The action looks so intense and just pulse-pounding and you can see why the main crew that worked on the Zero Dark Thirty were brought in for the film. Even the music is something that truly stands out and while it feels weird not having John Williams doing the score this time around, I personally think Alexandre Desplat is the perfect choice for a replacment. I love how he was able to make the Imperial March score standout so well and make it mix to make it sound even more menacing that it was when it debuted in The Empire Strikes Back. People also questioned the decision of hiring Gareth Edwards after Godzilla (2014) which some people weren't to high on, but it looks like he was he perfect choice and I think this film will silence a lot of the critics. The cast in the film looks terrific and they look like they had a lot of fun making the film. Felicity Jones is going to be an absolute force in the film and she could be (along with Rey) leading a new era of female stars in the making and as well as leading the charge for females leading a film. The big thing everyone wants to talk about is the fact the Dark Lord himself Darth Vader is returning and I'm really glad we got a quick (and I mean quick) look at Vader just to know that he's in the film and that's all that we needed because he's already an established character that we know a lot about so tere is no need to make him a central focus of the trailer.

Final Thoughts: Personally I am looking forward to this film for lot of different reasons and I think it's going to be a major hit with a lot of people. I think this trailer said a lot about the type of film we are getting and this film is going to fill in a lot of holes that we don't know that much about and it could even introduce characters that could have a major impact on Episode VIII and Episode IX.

So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of the Rouge One trailer and are you looking forward to the film? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
