So I recently watched Kubo and the Two Strings and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado...

Young Kubo's (voiced by Art Parkinson) peaceful existence comes crashing down when he accidentally summons a vengeful spirit from the past. Now on the run, Kubo joins forces with Monkey (voiced by Charlize Theron) and Beetle (voiced by Matthew McConaughey) to unlock a secret legacy. Armed with a magical instrument, Kubo must battle the Moon King (voiced by Ralph Fiennes) and other gods and monsters to save his family and solve the mystery of his fallen father, the greatest samurai warrior the world has ever known.

This film is just absolutely amazing. Stop-motion animation is the hardest type of animation to create simply because you are having to stop and start every other second to get the character movements down with a little help with some CGI. Anyone willing to take the risk of doing stop-motion animation is never going to be criticized because it takes a lot of time and effort with some long hours of work and it's understandable if you mess up along the way. You can tell from the moment go that the filmmakers wanted this to be flawless animation and they did just that it what might be the most gorgeous film of the year. It's a very unique film and it touches on a lot of subjects which again is a huge risk because you don't want to lose your target audience and the film does a great job of balancing the themes out enough for both children and adults. The film doesn't stick to one specific genre and it's able to reach different genres like fantasy, comedy and action and them blend together and it's hardly noticeable because the film is just that enjoyable. Some of the jokes in the film felt forced and out of place and just used at the wrong time, plus the villain is your prototypical mustache twirling villain and it just wasn't interesting enough for you care about his motivation. Overall this film proves just how good stop-motion animation can be and it takes a bunch of risks that ultimately payoff. I give Kubo and the Two Strings a 9 out of 10.
