My Review of Ghostbusters (2016)

So I recently watched Ghostbusters (2016) and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado...

Paranormal researcher Abby Yates (playe by Melissa McCarthy) and physicist Erin Gilbert (played by Kristen Wiig)are trying to prove that ghosts exist in modern society. When strange apparitions appear in Manhattan, Gilbert and Yates turn to engineer Jillian Holtzmann (played by Kate McKinnon) for help. Also joining the team is Patty Tolan (played by Leslie Jones), a lifelong New Yorker who knows the city inside and out. Armed with proton packs and plenty of attitude, the four women prepare for an epic battle as more than 1,000 mischievous ghouls descend on Times Square.

This film isn't as bad as some may seem. This film has been criticized from the very beginning and for various reasons and most of them are pretty reasonable arguments. Most of them are pretty valid while others are not. Yes this film has a really basic and boring plot that almost feels like a complete retelling of the very first film. and when you make a reboot, you have to go in a complete opposite direction and the film just doesn't do that. The film doesn't feel like a Ghostbusters film and it felt pretty generic to a point where you just don't care. There are a lot of great jokes in the film and they get pretty dirty compared to what the original films were allowed to get away with. It also does add some pretty frightening horror elements that were completely unexpected. The main thing director Paul Fieg is good at is getting female actors to do their best work possible and he once again accomplishes it. They main group of McCarthy, Wiig, Jones and McKinnon all work well together and they feed off of each other well enough to where the jokes can be even funnier than they should be. The visuals were surprisingly good compare to what the trailers showed. One suggestion to the people over at Sony is fire your marketing team immediately because they made the film look a whole lot worse than t actually was and they don't deserve to be working ever again. Overall this film has some great acting from the main group as well as a lot of clever jokes, but there just ins't anything story wise to let you as an audience member sink your teeth into. I give Ghostbusters (2016) a 5.5 out of 10.
