Next week kicks off Star Wars Celebration in London, England, but fans in America will be getting a nice treat with a brand-new Rogue One: A Star Wars Story trailer set to be revealed on Friday, July 15. Making Star Wars reveals that the behind-the-scenes documentary Secrets of The Force Awakens: A Cinematic Journey (previously seen on the DVD and Blu-ray release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens) will be making its television debut on ABC and with it comes the new Rogue One trailer. The new Rogue One trailer will likely make its debut at the film’s Celebration panel earlier in the day before premiering on television and then online, so stay tuned for the new Rogue One trailer next week. Rogue One tells the story of resistance fighters who have united to steal plans to the dreaded Death Star. Felicity Jones leads the cast as Jyn Erso alongside Mads Mikklesen who plays her father, Galen Erso. Diego Luna (Milk, Killing Them Softly) stars as Captain Cassian Andor with Donnie Yen (Ip Man, Blade II) as the blind spiritual warrior Chirrut Imwe, Jiang Wen (Let the Bullets Fly, Devils on the Doorstep) as his heavily armored best friend Baze Malbus,, Alan Tudyk (Firefly) as the droid K-2SO, Riz Ahmed (Nightcrawler, Four Lions) as the Rebel pilot Bodhi Rook, plus Forest Whitaker (The Last King of Scotland) as Saw Gerrera, a character first introduced in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and Ben Mendelsohn (Bloodline, Mississippi Grind) as the film’s main antagonist, Director Orson Krennic. John Knoll, the Academy Award-winning visual effects supervisor who currently serves as chief creative officer at Industrial Light & Magic, is executive producing the film along with Simon Emanuel (The Dark Knight Rises, Fast & Furious 6) and Jason McGatlin (Tintin, War of the Worlds). Kathleen Kennedy and Tony To (“Band of Brothers,” “The Pacific”) are on board to produce with John Swartz (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) attached to co-produce. It was also recently confirmed that Alexandre Desplat (The Grand Budapest Hotel, The King’s Speech) will be providing the score. Directed by Gareth Edwards, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is set for release on December 16, 2016.

Are any of us really surprised about this news? Look it's obvious that this trailer is coming out for a few reasons. Number 1 it's about time for a new trailer since the last one came out in either March or April and this is about the time for a new one. Also Star Wars celebration is next week and it's the biggest thing for Lucasfilm this year so you have to have something. Just like they had the second Star Wars Episode VII trailer last year, the second Rouge One trailer will  at Star Wars Celebration. I look for this to be the trend every year there is a Star Wars Celebration.

According to Deadline, 20th Century Fox‘s P.T. Barnum biopic The Greatest Showman on Earth has landed its leading lady in the form of three-time Oscar nominee Michelle Williams (Brokeback Mountain, My Week With Marilyn, Blue Valentine). She will join leading man Hugh Jackman and Zac Efron in Hollywood’s first original studio musical in over two decades. The Greatest Showman on Earth, scripted by Sex in the City writer Jenny Bicks, offers a musical take on the life of P.T. Barnum, specifically focusing on the creation of his three-ring circus and his infatuation with “Swedish Nightingale” Jenny Lind. Hugh Jackman, who is currently filming his reportedly final X-Men franchise appearance in the still-untitled Wolverine 3, will himself produce The Greatest Showman on Earth alongside Laurence Mark and Chernin Entertainment. Williams will next be seen this December opposite Casey Affleck and Kyle Chandler in the drama Manchester by the Sea, and she just completed work on Todd Haynes’ Wonderstruck.

This is great casting. Michelle Williams is a phenomenal actress and it's proven by her being an Oscar nominated Actress and adding her to any film is a great idea. I think she is going to be a perfect compliment to both Hugh Jackman and Zac Efron's characters. I don't know how well she can sing, but I think she will be fine and she'll give a great performance on top of it. I'm excited for this film in a lot of different ways and I think this film has a real shot to be a big Oscar contender in 2018.

CBS Films has revealed the teaser poster for Peter Berg’s Patriots Day, an account of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing and the everyday heroes who inspired the world in the extraordinary hours that followed. You can check out the Patriots Day poster in the gallery below. In the aftermath of an unspeakable act of terror, Police Sergeant Tommy Saunders (Mark Wahlberg) joins courageous survivors, first responders and investigators in a race against the clock to hunt down the bombers before they strike again. Weaving together the stories of Special Agent Richard DesLauriers (Kevin Bacon), Police Commissioner Ed Davis (John Goodman), Sergeant Jeffrey Pugliese (J.K. Simmons) and nurse Carol Saunders (Michelle Monaghan) this visceral and unflinching chronicle captures the suspense of the most sophisticated manhunt in law enforcement history and the strength of the people of Boston. The film co-stars Melissa Benoist, Michael Beach, Jimmy O. Yang, Vincent Curatola, Alex Wolff, James Colby, Themo Melikidze, Rachel Brosnahan and Christopher O’Shea. Directed by Peter Berg (Lone Survivor, Deepwater Horizon), Patriots Day is written by Berg alongside Matt Cook (Triple 9), Matt Charman (Bridge of Spies), Paul Tamasy and Eric Johnson (The Fighter). Patriots Day will open in New York, Los Angeles and Boston on December 21, 2016 and will then expand nationwide on January 13, 2017.

Patriots Day

I really love this poster for a lot of different reasons. First it's appropriate that the poster has an American flag as the poster since the film is titled Patriot's Day. Secondly, the fact that it's made out of shoelaces is pretty neat and respectable especially for the source material that will be presented in the film. This film has a terrific cast and a great director working together and there is already talk of this being a heavy Oscar contender next year. Hopefully the film can back up the good praise it's been getting.

Warner Bros. Pictures and MGM have today announced the Tomb Raider release date. Look for Academy Award winner Alicia Vikander (The Danish Girl) to make her big screen debut as Lara Croft when Tomb Raider hits theaters March 16, 2018. Norwegian filmmaker Roar Uthaug (The Wave) will direct the film, which has a script by Transformers: The Last Knight scribe Geneva Robertson-Dworet. The original Tomb Raider game was published in 1996 by the London-based video game company Eidos and became one of the most successful video games of the time. A reboot of the series, telling the origin of Lara Croft, was released in 2013 and sold over 5 million copies. The most recent game, titled Rise of the Tomb Raider, is available now for the Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC. Paramount Pictures previously made two movies about the daredevil archaeologist on a series of global missions. The films, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, starred Angelina Jolie and grossed a combined $432 million at the worldwide box office. Although the Tomb Raider release date officially marks the first feature film to claim that weekend, the March 16, 2018 date has been held by Warner Bros. for some time. It was previously speculated that the DC Comics adaptation The Flash would claim that date. At the moment, however, The Flash is without an official release date. Tomb Raider will be distributed by  Warner Bros. with MGM. They will produce the film with GK Films.

This is really exciting news to hear. Tomb Raider was one of my favorite games as a kid and I actually enjoyed the first two Tomb Raider films with Angelina Jolie and she looked just the part for how Lara Croft looked in the late 1990's. Now with the new Tomb Raider game Alicia Vikander looks like Lara Croft does now. I'm glad that the film got a date so soon and we're getting it really soon if you look at it. I love that Alicia Vikander is in the role because she is a great actress and it doesn't hurt to have an Academy Award on your mantle. I think this film has a shot to be good, if they don't get too cheesy with it when it comes to the story and action.

Walt Disney Pictures has revealed the teaser poster for their new live-action retelling of the cherished animated favorite, Beauty and the Beast. You can check out the Beauty and the Beast poster in the below. The film stars Emma Watson as Belle, Dan Stevens as Beast, Ian McKellen as Cogsworth, Luke Evans as Gaston, Josh Gad as LeFou, Kevin Kline as Maurice (Belle’s father), Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts, Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Plumette, the feather duster, Ewan McGregor as Lumiere, and Stanley Tucci as a grand piano named Cadenza. Bill Condon is directing Beauty and the Beast from a script by Stephen Chbosky, and the film will be produced by Mandeville Films’ David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman. Eight-time Oscar winner Alan Menken, who won two Academy Awards for the 1991 animated classic, has written three new songs for the production with Sir Tim Rice.  Walt Disney Pictures will release the movie on March 17, 2017.

Beauty and the Beast

I really love this poster. Yes it's pretty generic, but it is sort of iconic by having the infamous rose in it's case surrounded by falling snow. It's a classic trademark of the franchise and I'm glad that it's being prominently featured. As I've said before, out of all of the live-action Disney remakes on the way, this is one the one I'm most excited for. It's mainly due to the cast which is stacked from top to bottom with people like Emma Watson, Kevin Kline, Luke Evans, Emma Thompson, Ewan McGregor, Stanley Tucci, Josh Gad  and Sir Ian McKellen. I also love that both Alan Menken and Tim Rice are working on the music which is also a key part of the film and I think this film has the shot to be one of the best films of 2017.

Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment have debuted the new trailer for the animated Sing, opening in theaters on December 21, 2016. You can check out the new Sing trailer below.  Illumination has captivated audiences all over the world with the beloved hits Despicable Me, Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax, Despicable Me 2 and Minions, now the second-highest-grossing animated movie in history. Following the release of The Secret Life of Pets in summer 2016, Illumination presents Sing at the holidays. Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon, Seth MacFarlane, Scarlett Johansson, John C. Reilly, Taron Egerton and Tori Kelly star in an animated feature about finding the shining star that lives inside all of us. Set in a world like ours but entirely inhabited by animals, Sing stars Buster Moon (Academy Award® winner Matthew McConaughey), a dapper Koala who presides over a once-grand theater that has fallen on hard times. Buster is an eternal optimist—okay, maybe a bit of a scoundrel—who loves his theater above all and will do anything to preserve it. Now facing the crumbling of his life’s ambition, he has one final chance to restore his fading jewel to its former glory by producing the world’s greatest singing competition. Five lead contestants emerge: A mouse (Seth MacFarlane) who croons as smoothly as he cons, a timid teenage elephant (Tori Kelly) with an enormous case of stage fright, an overtaxed mother (Academy Award® winner Reese Witherspoon) run ragged tending a litter of 25 piglets, a young gangster gorilla (Taron Egerton) looking to break free of his family’s felonies, and a punk-rock porcupine (Scarlett Johansson) struggling to shed her arrogant boyfriend and go solo. Each animal arrives under Buster’s marquee believing that this is their shot to change the course of their life. Featuring more than 85 hit songs, Sing is written and directed by Garth Jennings (Son of Rambow, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy) and produced by Chris Meledandri and Janet Healy.

This was a really charming and fun trailer. Look it's the same studio who created the Minions so you know that they can be funny and it looks like they might have something going for them. This will be the third film this year with cast full of animals and only the second with nothing but animals and no humans so this might be a new genre forming and I think it's one that can be pretty successful. I really like the voice cast assembled for the film and I think the film is going to have a great mix of music and comedy for everyone to enjoy.
