My Top 10 Questions for Star Wars Episode VIII

With Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens being released this weekend and now that I have seen it, I thought it would be good to look ahead to Episode VIII. Yes I know it doesn't come out until May 2017, but these are the questions that are on my mind after Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens. Just to warn you there will probably be a few spoilers so please don't read unless you've seen Episode VII or if spoilers don't bother you. So without further ado...

10. What will happen with Chewbacca

As you know by watching the film, Han Solo is dead and that leaves a lot of characters going in a lot of directions. One of those characters is Chewbacca who has Han's right hand guy since Episode IV and the reason for that was becasue Chewbacca owed Han a life debt and now that one of the two has died, Chewbacca doesn't have to hold that agreement. I think there are two ways they can go with this. One way is that they can say Chewbacca went back to his home planet and it makes sense because Peter Mayhew who plays Chewbacca isn't in the best of health right now and he isn't getting younger so I could see them letting Chewbacca go and just explaining he left after leaving Rey with Luke to go back home. The other way they can go with it is that Chewbacca just stays with the Resistance and pilots the Millennium Falcon along with possibly Poe and Finn, but this is a good question to think about.

9. Will there be more flashbacks?

I think so for a few reasons. I think Rian Johnson (director of Episode 8) will utilize these to his advantages and he'll help fill in the gaps between Episode VI and Episode VII that JJ Abrams wasn't able to do. I think Episode VIII will be like The Godfather Part II in the sense that it is both a prequel and a sequel to both help fill the gaps and move the story along setting everything up for Episode IX. The main flashback we might get is one where Luke tells Rey everything about the force and explains why he vanished and everything he had built up in the 30 years between Episode VI and Episode VII. I think flashbacks are great when used properly and this will be one of those times where it will be a perfect fit.

8. What will become of Poe and Finn

These two seemed to have a bromance going on and they didn't really know each other that well. When we last see Poe he is celebrating the destruction of the Starkiller base and the last we saw of Finn he was recovering from his lightsaber duel with Kylo Ren. I think Finn will become the new pilot of the Millennium Falcon along with Chewbacca and Poe will continue to be a Resistance pilot. I think these fit along with everything we've seen in Episode VII and it'll be interesting to see if they go this way. They could also make Poe and Finn the pilot and co-pilot of the Millennium Falcon if they decide to not bring back Chewbacca or there could be a whole new ship if Chewbacca takes the Millennium Falcon for himself as his keepsake.

7. Will we find out about Finn's past.

It was stated in Episode VII that Finn was taken away from his family at a young age and was trained immediately in the ways of The First Order. It think it would be interesting to see if they went back and we found out who his parents are. Now I know this might seem a little racist, but what if Finn is Lando's kid. That's something I can believe in the sense that if he was taken so early, maybe Lando didn't have a chance to let Han or Leia know about his child. I don't think that's the case, but it would be a nice way to bring Lando back into the franchise, but in a somewhat cheap way. but it's still enough to bring him back.

6. Will Kylo Ren return to the light side?

This may seem like a stupid question to ask, but it is a very good possibility. Now in Episode VII before the death of Han Solo, they talk and Kylo Ren comes out and says he is pain and he knows what he has to do but he doesn't know if he can do it and that was to kill his last remaining obstacle before completing his turn to dark side. Kylo Ren also talks to Vader's helmet and says he can still feel the light. I think that Kylo Ren will eventually come back as Ben Solo to help Rey defeat Snoke in Episode IX after the death of Luke (if he dies) and this trilogy will end on a really big positive note.

5. Will Snoke reveal his true identity?

Now this question will only relevant if in fact he is Darth Plaguies. If he isn't then this question doesn't matter and I look stupid for asking it. If he is Plaguies then I think Episode VIII is the perfect film for him to reveal himself to Luke/Rey leading into the plot for Episode IX. It would sorta be like how in Episode II was the first time we truly knew that Palpatine was the Emperor. We had hints in Episode I, but two it really hit hard with the fact of who he was and I think Episode VIII will parallel the reveal with Episode III.

4. Will we find out who Rey's parents are?

One of the main sub-plots in Episode VII was finding out that Rey has been on Jakku waiting for her parents to come back to get her. After the realization that her parents aren't coming back she is now in full training mode with Luke. Now a lot of people are speculating that Luke could be her father for a various amount of reasons and one of those was the the flashback she got when she touched Luke's old lightsaber and she saw some things from Luke's perspective and we got to see her watching her parents leaving her on Jakku and plus the fact that she is force sensitive makes a lot of people believe that she is Luke's daughter. I don't think so because of the simple fact that Han and Leia had to have know that Luke had a kid and even if they didn't they could still see the resemblance between Rey and Luke if that were true, but we honestly can't come up with an answer just yet.

3. What will be the new weapon for The First Order?

The First Order is in need of a new weapon to threaten the galaxy with. The Starkiller Base was destroyed in Episode VII and I know a lot of people have complained about the base being too similar to the Death Star and yes that's true, but I think it was a little bit different than the Death Star. With it being destroyed they will need a new weapon and to be perfectly honest I don't think they need to make another one like they did in Episode VI after the first one was destroyed in Episode IV. I wouldn't be surprised if there is no new weapon in the next two films and instead it will just be a high powered military type base that gets attacked.

2. Which member of the older cast will die?

I think this is an obvious answer. If an older character were to die in the film, then I think it will be Luke. Now I don't think Luke will die until Episode IX when he goes one on one with Snoke, but if he does that it in Episode VIII which then I think he'll die leading to Rey seeking out revenge for Luke in Episode IX. If Luke doesn't fight Snoke then I think Leia will die in some dramatic way and it may the case that she could pick up a lightsaber and fight her son Kylo Ren which would be epic. Honestly the older cast of the main trio now duo will all die off by the time the new trilogy ends so it just depends on who goes first.

1. What will the title be?

Now I know this isn't a really big question, but it's one that needs to be asked. In Star Wars the title matters quite a bit because it usually gives us the audience a small idea on what the film will be. I honestly wouldn't mind if they went with the rumored Episode VII title which was The Ancient Fear. It makes sense because if the rumors turn out to be true about Supreme Leader Snoke being Darth Plaguies then it would make sense if his reveal was in this film and then the main plot of Episode IX is to defeat him. Other than that I don't have a clue on what the title could be, but I hope it will be something great.

So ladies and gentlemen what are some of the questions you have for Episode VIII and what do you think of questions I am asking? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
