My Review of Goosebumps

So I recently watched Goosebumps and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado...

Goosebumps (film) poster.jpg

Upset about moving from a big city to a small town, teenager Zach Cooper (played by Dylan Minnette) finds a silver lining when he meets the beautiful girl, Hannah (played by Odeya Rush), living right next door. But every silver lining has a cloud, and Zach's comes when he learns that Hannah has a mysterious dad who is revealed to be R. L. Stine (played by Jack Black), the author of the bestselling Goosebumps series. It turns out that there is a reason why Stine is so strange... he is a prisoner of his own imagination - the monsters that his books made famous are real, and Stine protects his readers by keeping them locked up in their books. When Zach unintentionally unleashes the monsters from their manuscripts and they begin to terrorize the town, it's suddenly up to Stine, Zach, and Hannah to get all of them back in the books where they belong.

This movie was better than I expected. Goosebumps as a kid is something you need to read and while not all of the stories are the greatest, their are a lot of really interesting ones and they are a necessity growing up. Look the only reason why the film got made was because the name is really recognizable and to do that you need a name like Jack Black to help carry the film along and he does just that. He gives a really great comedic performance and it might be one of the best of his career. The comedy throughout the film sometimes feel forced, but their are a lot of really solid jokes and quite a few puns towards the creatures in the Goosebumps books. The younger cast also did a really great job and Dylan Minnette could have a really nice career down the line. This film could very easily spawn several sequels if the studio chooses. Overall this was a nice film and it brings back a lot of nostalgia to the ones who read the books in their younger years (like myself). I give Goosebumps an 8.5 out of 10.

So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of Goosebumps, what would you rate it and what did you think of my review? Let me know in the comments section below and your voice be heard.
