Now some of you are wondering what do these numbers mean for the movies and movie studios going forward. Well here are five things that I have learned from these numbers.

  1. I said in my Man of Steel Preview that it would make $100 million this past weekend. Well not  including midnight showings for Thursday night it made $113 million, so I think I got pretty close.
  2. Iron Man 3 still continues to make a little bit of money and its be out for almost 2 months
  3. After Earth is a complete and utter failure. It had a budget of roughly $130 million and adding in totals from around the world its made $102 million. Some of you say well if it gets to $150 million its a success, well number 1 its not going to get $150 million and number 2 if it ever did get there the studio still loses money because you have take out money for the cast and crew, take out money for marketing, and all togehter this film will cost Columbia at least $80 million with a profit of $50 million and no possible sequel or prequel.
  4. If "This is the End" had a been in a few more theaters  there is not a doubt in my mind it would have crossed the $50 million mark on a $32 million budget in its first week.
  5. The Purge 2 has been confirmed and is in development. Not surprising as it has made an unexpected $51 million on a $3 million budget
Now for some weekend movie news
  1. Joss Whedon has confirmed in an interveiw this weekend that Tom Hiddleston "aka Loki" will not return for Avengers 2 simply saying "Loki is not there".
  2. We've finally found out who John C. Riley is playing in the upcoming "Marvel's: The Guardians of the Galaxy". Riley will play Nova Corps leader Rhomann Dey.
  3. Arnold is back. Schwarzenegger stated that he will be apart of The Expendables 3 and he will also be returning for the upcoming Terminator 5.
