Editorial: Remakes, Reboots, and Sequels: The Differences, The Necessity, and Which Movies Deserve It

In today's movie world all we ever see is a remake, reboot, or a sequel. Hollywood does not have any original ideas. But with that being said we can only go see the movies that they provide us with. Me personally I do not have a problem with a remake. There are some movies from 30 years ago that honestly weren't that good or maybe now filmmakers believe with better technology, that they can make a better movie and a modern retelling could be in order. Reboots on the other hand are a different story. Reboots should only happen if a franchise is failing and a studio feels that there may be an opportunity to start over with a fresh new story and faces. However, a reboot should not happen when a movie franchise is succeeding financially, critically and the fans really enjoy the franchise. Though people may be bored with sequels, I for one love sequels because I want to see the characters that I loved from the original movie in a different situation that brings new challenges to the characters. Sequels though should only happen when there is more to a story to tell instead of the studio being money hungry and putting out a piece of crap that is not satisfying to the fans. The main reason why sequels do happen though (even when there is not even a necessity for them) is because we as moviegoers continue to see theses movies and the movies continue to make a lot of money for a studio and as long as we keep putting money into the movie sequels, then studios will continue to make an endless amount of sequels.

When most people see a reboot or a remake some moviegoers say they are the same thing. Well I am here to tell you that you are very wrong.  Below are the  difference between a remake and a reboot

Remakes-  A remake is when a studio takes a once told story and brings it into a modern day telling. They may change a few things to the story and the may even pay omage to the original movie but the same primise of the story is still true. The one thing that is great about a remake is that if it ends up being horrible then we can always go back to the original and enjoy what a good movie it was

Reboots- A reboot is is when a studio wants a fresh new take on a story while changing everything from the cast, director, and crew. If its a superhero movie they may change the origin of a character and add new villains and new characters that the previous film series did not show.

So ladies and gentlemen what are you thoughts on remakes, reboots, and sequels? Do you agree or disagree? Let me know in the comments and let your voice be heard.
