Comedy is a genre of film in which the main emphasis is on humour. These films are designed to entertain the audience through amusement, and most often work by exaggerating characteristics of real life for humorous effect. Films in this style traditionally have a happy ending (the black comedy being an exception). Comedy, unlike other film genres, puts much more focus on individual stars, with many former stand-up comics transitioning to the film industry due to their popularity. While many comic films are lighthearted stories with no intent other than to amuse, others contain political or social commentary. I'm going to bring My Top 10 Comedy Movies of All-Time. Now as with all of my top 10 lists these are not the greatest comedies of all-time, these are movies that literally bust my gut open with laughter. So without further ado................
10. BASEketBall-
If you want to make fun of professional sports then this is the movie to watch. The movie comes to us from David Zucker who brought us The Naked Gun franchise, Airplane (a movie you'll see a little later in the list) and the past 3 Scary Movie installments. The movie stars South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone (as childhood friends Joe "Coop" Cooper and Doug Reamer respectively) as they decide to come up with their own sport in the wake of professional sports becoming boring and unoriginal. This is the only movie in which Parker or Stone did not write or direct (personally the film would have been even funnier if they had).

9. The 40 Year-Old Virgin-
This movie became an instant classic when it was released back in 2005. The movie stars Steve Carell as Andy Stitzer as he tries to lose his virginity at the ripe old age of 40. The movie also stars Catherine Keener, Paul Rudd, Seth Rogen and Jane Lynch. It comes to us from Judd Apatow who has brought us comedies such as Superbad, Anchorman (a film you'll see later), Talladega Nights, Step Brothers and many many more.

8. Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned To Stop Worrying and Love The Bomb-
One of the greatest films ever made comes to us from one of the greatest directors in history Stanley Kubrick. It follows several story arcs such as a United States Air Force General who has ordered a nuclear strike on the Soviet Union, the President of The United States, his advisers and his Joint Chiefs of staffs and a Royal Air Force officer as they try to recall the air strike, and it also follows one of the air crews as they deliver the bomb. The film was nominated for four Academy Awards including Best Actor, Adapted Screenplay, Director, and Picture. The film is a classic just for the simple fact of it coming out just as The Cold War started.

7. Airplane!-
This film is the one that glorified the spoof/parody film genre. This is also another David Zucker film. It takes a stab at making fun of disaster movies and it mainly takes from the central storylines of Airport 1975 and Zero Hour!. It is known loosely for its gags and puns as well as its memorable quotes. It also has a sequel entitled Airplane! 2.

One of the best buddy films of all-time, Dumb and Dumber literally puts a whole new meaning into the word stupidity. The film tells to story of two friends Lloyd Christmas (played by Jim Carrey) and Harry Dunne (played by Jeff Daniels) as the go on a cross-country trip to return a briefcase left behind by a woman named Mary Swanson (played by Lauren Holly) that Lloyd (Carrey) has dropped off at a local airport. 4. The Big Lebowski-
Ah all I can say about this movie is that "I am the Dude". The film stars Jeff Bridges as Jeff Lebowski who is a slacker and an avid bowler. After a case of mistaken identity, a millionaire's wife has been kidnapped and Lebowski (Bridges) is forced to gather and deliver the ransom money to secure the woman. But the plan goes haywire as one of Lebowski's friends Walter Schobeck (played by John Goodman) decides to keep the money for himself. This movie is considered the greatest cult classic of all-time.

3. The Hangover-
One of the biggest surprises of 2009, The Hangover tells the story of 3 friends Phil (played by Bradley Cooper), Stu (played by Ed Helms) and Alan (played by Zack Galifianakis) as they travel to Las Vegas to have a bachelor party for their friend Doug (played by Justin Bartha). Things go from good to bad as the morning after the first night of partying leaves the three friends hungover and cannot remember anything from the night before. This sets in motion a manhunt for Doug as they have lost him and cannot find him. The movie spawned two sequels The Hangover Part 2 (I wish it had never happened or existed) and the recently released The Hangover Part 3.

2. Animal House-
Animal House is widely considered one of the greatest comedies of all-time. It tells the story of the dysfunctional Delta's of Delta Tau Kai that attend Faber College as they live the college lifestyle through constant partying and intoxication. The film comes from several magazines of National Lampoon. Also the film is considered great simply for being able to make a funny movie with mostly completely unknown actors aside from the late John Belushi.

1. Blazing Saddles-
Not only is this one of the greatest comedies of all-time but it also considered one of the greatest films of all-time. Blazing Saddles mostly satirizes the racism obscured by myth-making Hollywood accounts in the Old American West with the main character being a black sheriff in an all white town. It also has many other funny jabs at pop culture in 1974. This is probably Mel Brook's best and funniest film, it is also his most successful receiving 4 Academy Award Nominations including Best Actress, Editing, Original Sound and Music.
