So I recently watched The Legend of Tarzan and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado...
It's been nearly a decade since Tarzan (played by Alexander Skarsgård), also known as John Clayton III, left Africa to live in Victorian England with his wife Jane (played by Margot Robbie). Danger lurks on the horizon as Leon Rom (played by Christoph Waltz), a treacherous envoy for King Leopold, devises a scheme that lures the couple to the Congo. Rom plans to capture Tarzan and deliver him to an old enemy in exchange for diamonds. When Jane becomes a pawn in his devious plot, Tarzan must return to the jungle to save the woman he loves.
This was a really disappointing film. When you see a film titled Legend of Tarzan, you expect to get to know the story of how he became a legend in the first place and you just don't get that. You get mini bits and pieces through flashbacks, but they just feel out of place and unnecessary and it looks as if the filmmakers didn't really know which direction they wanted to go in. Another thing you expect from a Tarzan film is him in the jungle where he belongs and instead you see him more in a civilized manner coming from his roots and while that's where the original story sort of goes, it's just not something you want to see in a live action adaptation of Tarzan. The performances are less than stellar although Alexander Skarsgård and Margot Robbie do well in their roles eventhough they had very little to work with. Christoph Waltz might be the worst actor in this film and that's a pretty bold statement to make about a 2-time Oscar winner, but it's the truth as he is playing the same mustache-twirling villain that he's played in his last 3 or 4 films and he just feels out of place in the film. The visuals are spectacualr and the actions scenes were pretty exciting which are things that you can expect from a film directed by David Yates. As mentioned before the story direction is awkward and it really feels like a sequel to the animated Tarzan film done by Disney and those two universes just don't mesh at all eventhough they are unrelated. Overall the film is lousy with no sense of direction that amazing visuals and action scenes can't make up for. I give The Legend of Tarzan a 3 out of 10.
So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of The Legend of Tarzan, what would you rate it and what did you think of my review? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
