My Review of Independence Day: Resurgence

So I recently watched Independence Day: Resurgence and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado...

As the Fourth of July nears, satellite engineer David Levinson (played by Jeff Goldblum) investigates a 3,000-mile-wide mother ship that's approaching Earth. Fortunately, 20 years earlier, nations across the world started to use recovered extraterrestrial technology to develop an immense defense program. When the alien invaders attack with unprecedented force, the U.S. president, teams of scientists and brave fighter pilots spring into action to save the planet from a seemingly invincible enemy.

This was a really disappointing film to watch. You know situation you get put into when you have a breakup and your ex ends up dating the worst possible person in the world? Well that's what this film is and it's not too good of a feeling. The first film is a fun popcorn flick where you can appreciate the fact that no one took the film seriously and just had a great time making it and this film feels like a real Debbie Downer and it's way too serious and way too fast. The film adds a lot of exposition and it needs to due to the fact that there are 20 years worth of history gaps, but at often times becomes a little overwhelming and all the character just keep referencing the old film and they do nothing to add anything to the film they are in. Speaking of the old film, the plot is virtually the same and it has a lot of the same shots used in the first one such as getting evacuated by helicopters, having to sacrifice a main character (yeah it's sort of spoiled the film, but so what) by flying to the big ship on earth and it just goes on and on like that for the entire film. The visuals in the film look decent, but the aliens look absolutely cartoonish and just not intimidating at all. Also there are way too many emotional moments in the film and none of them matter because you aren't connected to the characters and the fact that they made Jesse Usher into a knock off version of Will Smith is one of the stupidest ideas in the world. He literally copies all of the mannerisms of Will Smith's character and tries to say the same lines, but they don't work. The humor might be the worst part because it's childish and it doesn't fit into the film at all, the first film had corny jokes, but they worked in some capacity unlike in this film. Overall this film is just an utter embarrassment to itslef and it takes itself so seriously that you can't have any fun while watching it because it's both boring and predictable and now you see why Will smith turned down the chance to come back. I give Independence Day: Resurgence a 2 out of 10.

So ladies and gentlemen what did you think of Independence Day: Resurgence, what would you rate it and what did you think of my review? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
