My Top 10 Biggest Film Miscasts of All-Time

One of things that you need in a film is actors and actresses to help bring the characters to life. You often hi home runs with casting decisions that often lead to some of the best performances that lead to Oscar wins/nominations. However on the flip side, there have been some casting choices that leave us an audience scratching our heads wondering why they were chosen for that specific role. With that being said I'm going to bring you my top 10 biggest miscasts of all-time which will include the actor, the role they played, the film they were in as well as to why these were bad choices. So without further ado...

10. Kevin Costner as Robin Hood in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves
Kevin Costner 2014.jpgKevin Costner Robin Hood

Robin Hood is a character that is primarily British and you expect whoever plays Robin to be somewhat British. In this case however they decide to go with Kevin Costner who is American and from California who has no British bloodlines. He didn't even want to perform a British accent which automatically should've counted him out of the role, but the reason why he was chosen was mainly because he was coming off of directing 1990's Oscar Best Picture winner Dances with Wolves and at the time he was a huge name so the studio wanted to help the film get some recognition.

9. Mickey Rooney as Mr. Yunioshi in Breakfast at Tiffany's

This one speaks for itself. Mickey Rooney is from Brooklyn, Ne York and he's also Irish so casting him for an Asian role seems pretty offensive. They even went as far as to give him fake teeth and had him try to impersonate and Asian and he fails miserably. Mickey Rooney is a well respected actor so I'm really surprised that he would agree to this role.

8. Pierce Brosnan as James Bond in GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World is Not Enough and Die Another Day
Pierce Brosnan Deauville 2014.jpgFleming007impression.jpg

James Bond is a truly iconic film character and he has had a lot of different portrayals in the past 50+ years and yet Pierce Brosnan was the worst possible choice for Agent 007, He just didn't seem to have the suave and characteristics that the previous and future Bond(s) have had. He has done as much action as Daniel Craig has done, but most of Brosnan's was way too campy and over the top for me to take he seriously as James Bond.

7. Val Kilmer as Bruce Wayne/Batman in Batman Forever
Val Kilmer Cannes.jpgComic Art - Batman by Jim Lee (2002).png

This is a bit misleading. While I really like Val Kilmer as an actor he wasn't the best choice for the role for a couple of reasons, but only for one half of the role. I thought Kilmer was the right choice to play Batman because he has the build and the monotone voice that fits Batman well. However as Bruce Wayne (which also comes along with the role) he failed miserably and he was joke playing the eccentric millionaire. Another characteristic is that he wasn't mysterious enough as Bruce Wayne and if you were a character in the movie, then you can easily tell he is Batman. If Kilmer didn't have to play the Bruce Wayne half of the character then he might've knocked the role out of the park.

6. George Clooney as Bruce Wayne/Batman in Batman & Robin

Just like with Val Kilmer, this choice on the list is a bit misleading. George Clooney is one of the best actors working in the business and plus he's a Kentucky boy so I kinda have to like him. However he was chosen for the role at time simply to help give the film a little extra boost due to him being the star on ER at the time. Now looking at George Clooney's personal life, you could honestly say that he is a walking and talking real-life Bruce Wayne so he fit that part great, but he was laughable as Batman. He had no charisma and he was smaller than he needed to be for the role and he just wasn't a believable as The Caped Crusader.

5. John Wayne as Genghis Khan in The Conqueror
John Wayne - still portrait.jpgYuanEmperorAlbumGenghisPortrait.jpg

This casting falls right in line with Mickey Rooney, John Wayne is one of the most iconic actors in the history of Hollywood and the fact that he chose to do this role really shocks me. I mean John Wayne made his name doing westerns and being the straight talking, no nonsense cowboy and he instead chooses to play one of the most notorious and violent leader in the history of the world who was Asian. It just doesn't make sense as why John Wayne took the role especially after producer Howard Hughes told him that role might be offensive and John Wayne decided to do it anyway.

4. John Leguizamo as Luigi in Super Mario Bros.
John Leguizamo by Gage Skidmore.jpgLuigiNSMBW.png

Just like his co-star Bob Hoskins (which I'll talk about in little bit), the reason John Leguizamo is on the list is pretty obvious. John Leguizamo is Colombian which means he speaks more Spanish than he does Italian and he also sounds more Spanish than Italian, so you have to question why in the world he was cast as an Italian plumber and he didn't even attempt an accent. He and Bob Hoskins cared so little about the film that they say it almost ruined their careers. I just can't what kind of drugs the filmmakers were on to cast both John Leguizamo and Bob Hoskins it the main roles and why they decided to make this film the way it was made.

3. Bob Hoskins as Mario in Super Mario Bros.

This is a pretty obvious reason. Bob Hoskins is a British actor and he was cast as an Italian plumber and he didn't even use the accent for the film. Now I love Bob Hoskins and may he rest in peace, but my god he was the wrong choice for the film. I will however praise him to point of being able to escape production alive after he almost died on several occasions making the film. This goes to show that just because you look like the character, doesn't mean you are the right fit.

2. Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker in the Star Wars Episode's II and III

For the older version of Anakin Skywalker, Hayden Christensen didn't do much better than Jake Lloyd. He was a whiny brat and in Episdoe II he came of as one of the creepiest human beings to ever grace the big screen. There were a few signs of possibly paying off in the end, but the all of the bad just couldn't outweigh the good.

1. Jake Lloyd as Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace
Jake Lloyd in 2007A blonde boy wearing a gray robe and a black backpack walks in a desert.

I think a lot of you all saw this coming. Everyone knows I pretty much hate the Star Wars Prequels and one of those reasons is due to the casting of Anakin Skywalker. Jake Lloyd was a no talent 9 year old who whined the entire film and just came across as annoying. He was handpicked by George Lucas himself and at that time Lucas was surrounded by "Yes Men" who basically agreed with everything Lucas said and never questioned how bad some of the choices were such as the case with the Jake Lloyd casting.

So ladies and gentlemen what do you think are some of the biggest film miscasts of all-time and what do you think of my list? Let me know in the comments section below and let your voice be heard.
