My Review of Dirty Grandpa

So I recently watched Dirty Grandpa and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado...

Uptight lawyer Jason Kelly (played by Zac Efron) is one week away from marrying his boss's controlling daughter, putting him on the fast track for a partnership at his firm. Tricked by his grandfather Dick (played by Robert De Niro), Jason finds himself driving the foulmouthed old man to Daytona Beach, Fla., for a wild spring break that includes frat parties, bar fights and an epic night of karaoke. While Jason worries about the upcoming wedding, Dick tries to show his grandson how to live life to the fullest.

This was a really sad movie to watch. Now it wasn't sad in the sense that the film is a tearjerker, but in the sense that it was sad to see tremendous actors like De Niro and Efron be in such a really terrible movie like this one. There are a lot of great funny moments and they surprisingly mostly come from De Niro who is absolutely hilarious in the film. He and Efron have really great chemistry and seeing them in another film down the line better than this one. The film tries to put together a somewhat sentimental story, but it just often comes across as childish and absolutely ridiculous. Most of the jokes are repeated at least two or three times which shows that the film really only should've lasted about an hour due to the filler material. The way the humor was badly utilized lies with director Dan Mazer which is surprising considering the work he has done in the past with Borat (a film he wrote) as well as Ali G Indahouse. The film itself while funny is pretty predictable and you could guess the ending from the trailers. Overall this was a film that could've been the breakout comedy of the year and while there are some hilarious scenes and two great performances from Efron and De Niro, the film itself story wise was just too predictable and weak for a comedy film. I give Dirty Grandpa a 3 out of 10.
