Hello ladies and gentlemen, Since I didn't get to bring you news from yesterday I figured that I would combine today's and yesterday's news (3 stories from each day). So here is some movie news with some of my thoughts and opinions (which will be in BOLD print). So without further ado...

Despite previously casting doubt on his involvement, like he has for each of the other sequels as well, director Michael Bay confirmed in a new profile at Rolling Stone that he will return for the upcoming Transformers 5 for a summer 2017 release. “I’m doing Transformers … 5, is it?” Bay tells the outlet. “J.J. [Abrams] told me, ‘You’re the only guy that could do this.’ But it’s time to move on. One more.” Rolling Stone was also present in Bay’s Santa Monica office when he took a video call with visual effects supervisors at ILM, who showed him “an underwater rendering of a crash-landed alien spaceship, then a new dump-truck Transformer with a cloak” for the new film, which Bay apparently was dissatisfied with in their current form. Transformers 5 is set to be written by Iron Man scribes Art Marcum & Matt Holloway and Ken Nolan (Black Hawk Down) with Transformers: Age of Extinction star Mark Wahlberg also returning for the film.
This is news I didn't want to hear. Now we got word that this might be true, but not that Bay has come out we can call it official. Look Michael Bay could've been a fantastic director and I personally love his early stuff like The Rock, Armageddon, Bod Boys 1 and 2 and even the first Transformers film. Here recently though he has become a parody of himself and just makes some of the stupidest decisions and thinks every single shot of a film should have an explosion in it and he just doesn't get that he's making terrible decisions and the last Transformers film is a perfect example of that. I understand he loves the franchise, but he has to understand that the franchise might need some new blood behind the camera to help the franchise. I'm a huge fan of Transformers and I just want them to be handled properly and I don't think Michael Bay is the person for the job.
Even though we’ve known Will Smith bowed out of the sequel for a while now, when 20th Century Fox revealed the first trailer for Independence Day: Resurgence, many fans who don’t read the trades were probably wondering where the star was. Later, a viral website detailing the alternate history of the Earth in the wake of the first film revealed Smith’s character, Steven Hiller, had perished between the two films. Although director Roland Emmerich had previously blamed everything from Smith’s asking price to his overwhelming star power to his reluctance to return to sci-fi due to After Earth bombing, the Fresh Prince has now gone on record to Yahoo! on why he doesn’t appear and how he feels about the fate of his character. “I was working on ‘Suicide Squad’ during that time,” Smith said, referring to the film’s production. “Roland and I had talked about it. The trailer looks really cool. I’m going to be sitting around with tears in my eyes when that one comes out… It was terrible when I found out my character died.” We’re sure it wasn’t an easy decision for Smith to turn his back on the franchise that made him a superstar, and that inner debate was felt by the production itself as screenwriter James Vanderbilt penned two different screenplays for the film, one including Hiller and one not. Ultimately it was the latter script that will make it to the screen, and while the track record for action sequels without the original star character is spotty (xXx: State of the Union, Predator 2, Terminator Salvation, Speed 2: Cruise Control) we’re hoping the ID4 sequel can operate independently from Smith. Dated April 27, 2007, the ID4R site read as follows: “While test piloting the ESD’s first alien hybrid fighter, an unknown malfunction causes the untimely death of Col. Hiller. Hiller’s valor in the War of 96 made him a beloved global icon whose selfless assault against the alien mothership lead directly to the enemy’s defeat. He is survived by his wife Jasmine and son Dylan.”
Vivica Fox is set to appear in the film as Jasmine Hiller, while Jessie Usher will play the role of Dylan. Also starring Liam Hemsworth, Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Judd Hirsch, Brent Spiner, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Maika Monroe and Sela Ward, the new entry in the franchise is officially described as follows: We always knew they were coming back. After Independence Day redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global spectacle on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction. Independence Day: Resurgence is set to hit theaters on June 24, 2016. Twenty-two years in the making, Independence Day: Resurgence features a script by Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin and James Vanderbilt, James A.Woods & Nicolas Wright.
These were some interesting comments. Look this kind of thing happens all of the time and sometimes that's why in some films one of the stars doesn't come back. Being in a comic book film is a big opportunity for Will Smith and I know he wanted to be in Independence Day: Resurgence, but offers like Suicide Squad don't come around often. I think Independence Day: Resurgence the film will be fine without him due to having two of the 3 main leads back in Bill Pullman and Jeff Goldblum and I'm really looking forward to the film, but I do wish Smith was in the film.
When Alexandra Daddario landed the role of Summer in the upcoming Baywatch movie adaptation, star Dwayne Johnson stated, “And juuuuust wait til you guys see who we cast for the iconic role of C.J. Parker….” Well wait no longer, panting readers, as Variety reports that the coveted role has gone to model-turned-actress Kelly Rohrbach, who fills in that red swimsuit once form-fitted around model-turned-actress Pamela Anderson. The 2015 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Rookie of the Year, Rohrbach also studied acting at Georgetown University and the prestigious London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts (LAMDA), having previously scored roles in shows like “Two and a Half Men” and “Rizzoli & Isles” as well as in the new Untitled Woody Allen Movie opposite Kristen Stewart and Jesse Eisenberg. Among her noted character traits, Anderson’s C.J. was known for being something a New Age enthusiast (crystals, meditation, dream interpretation, etc), though who knows where Rohrbach’s iteration of the character will go? Zac Efron (Neighbors) co-stars with Johnson in the film, with Horrible Bosses and Identity Thief director Seth Gordon helming this new take on the long-running syndicated lifeguard show. Although several writers have been attached to Baywatch, the most recent draft hails from the Friday the 13th pair of Damian Shannon and Mark Swift. Earlier reports suggested that the film will offer a comedy-heavy take that has little to do with the original series. Parts were reportedly written, however, for both Pamela Anderson and David Hasselhoff to reprise their roles. Whether or not that remains the plan is, at the moment, unconfirmed. As always, check back for updates as they become available.
I think this is pretty interesting casting. I have absolutely no idea who this woman is and I haven't seen her in anything so she'll be something to look forward to. Now playing an iconic tv character could be a tough task, but if she can do it than I think a lot of film roles will come her way. She's very educated so it seems as if she knows how to act and we'll get our chance to see her whne the film comes out.

On Monday, Star Wars: The Force Awakens added $8 million domestically and $14.5 million international for a total of $22.5 million. The film has now earned $750.2 million in North America and $786.1 million overseas for a worldwide total of $1.536 billion. Domestically, Star Wars: The Force Awakens is already the #1 movie of 2015 to date and the #2 movie of all-time, behind only Avatar ($760.5 million). Internationally, Star Wars: The Force Awakens is already the #5 movie of 2015 to date. Globally, Star Wars: The Force Awakens is now the #2 movie of 2015 to date (passing Furious 7‘s $1.515 billion) and is now the #4 movie of all-time (passing Furious 7 ($1.515 billion) and Marvel’s The Avengers ($1.519 billion)). The only three films still ahead of Star Wars: The Force Awakens worldwide are Jurassic World with $1.669 billion, Titanic with $2.186 billion and Avatar with $2.788 billion The film will open in China on January 9. Directed by J.J. Abrams, the movie stars Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew and Max Von Sydow. Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams and Bryan Burk produced the film with Tommy Harper and Jason McGatlin serving as executive producers. The screenplay is by Lawrence Kasdan & J.J. Abrams and Michael Arndt.
These are just absolutely outstanding numbers. This film had a lot of different expectations beforehand, but these weren't the numbers that anyone expected. I mean people expected it to get to this mark by the end of it's run, but it still has quite a bit of life left in it. The film is going to pass Avatar for the highest grossing film in America all-time in the coming days and it's a record no one thought could be broken, but now it has and I love it. As for it's foreign numbers it's doing very well and it should pass Jurassic World easily this weekend, but it's long term financial success could all depend on what it does in China this weekend. China is the biggest marker toy can open to and the current record is held by Furious 7 with $187 million for an opening weekend. If Star Wars can make between $250 and $300 Million in China for opening weekend, then I think it has a really good shot to pass Avatar for the highest grossing film of all-time. I think it will pass Titanic for sure by the end of it's run, but this film will be in theaters for very long time and I'm excited to see how far it can climb.
Having racked up over $100 million at the box office and knocking out the critics, Creed is a bonafide hit and MGM CEO Gary Barber has confirmed to Variety, “There’s no doubt that we’re making a ‘Creed 2.” With Michael B. Jordan confirming his willingness to come back to give Adonis another round, all attention is now on what the two masterminds behind the sequel/spin-off will bring to the table, namely director Ryan Coogler and Rocky creator Sylvester Stallone, who is a near-lock for a Creed Supporting Actor Oscar nomination. There’s one hitch: A little Marvel Studios movie called Black Panther that Coogler is currently in advanced negotiations to direct. Should Coogler take the gig, Stallone thinks it’s unlikely the powers that be will let the Creed sizzle fizzle while they wait for the auteur to finish his superhero flick. “There’s a diminishing time acceptance of a sequel,” Stallone says. “Three years is a little much.” It’s all but assured that if MGM moves forward on Creed 2 without Coogler, the 29-year-old wunderkind will remain onboard as an executive producer and possibly guide another young filmmaker such as himself to recapture the lightning in a bottle they had this time out. Coogler has even had discussions with Stallone for the next installment, which could potentially mirror Rocky IV or even take a page from The Godfather Part II playbook and feature recurring flashbacks to Apollo Creed before his death. “You’ll have him face a different opponent, which I would say is a more ferocious, big Russian,” Stallone says. “There’s a lot there.” “Oh no!” Coogler sighed when he learns Stallone divulged the early story concepts. “There are no secrets with Sly.”
This is an interesting idea. Now I think we all knew that if Creed was a financial/critical (which it was) success, then we would get a sequel which we now are so no surprise there. As for Ryan Coogler, I think he did a great job of bringing us back into the Rocky universe and he was the perfect man for the job. Stallone is right when he says that a studio probably won't long to make the next film and Coogler may not be able to do it. Now while I would hate that, I think it could be a good move to give the reigns to someone else for one film and then bring him back for the third film. As for the possibilities for a story for the third film are endless and whatever they decide to do will be great. I like the idea of re-introducing Ivan Drago especially with Adonis finally getting a chance to face the man who killed his father. Now I don't want Adonis to face Drago in the ring, but possibly a protege of Drago will face Adonis. I'm excited for Creed 2 and where it will take the franchise.
STX Entertainment (via Entertainment Weekly) has revealed the haunting first poster for the Civil War drama The Free State of Jones ,featuring star Matthew McConaughey. You can check out the Free State of Jones poster below. Set during the Civil War, The Free State of Jones tells the story of defiant Southern farmer Newt Knight, and his extraordinary armed rebellion against the Confederacy. Banding together with other small farmers, and with the assistance of local slaves, Knight launched an uprising that led Jones County, Mississippi to secede from the Confederacy, creating a Free State of Jones. His marriage to a former slave, Rachel, and his subsequent establishment of a mixed race community was unique in the post-war South. Knight continued his struggle into Reconstruction, which distinguished him as a compelling, if controversial, figure of defiance long beyond the War. The epic action-drama is written and directed by four-time Oscar nominee Gary Ross (The Hunger Games, Seabiscuit, Pleasantville), and stars Oscar-winner Matthew McConaughey (Interstellar, Dallas Buyers Club), Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Beyond the Lights), Keri Russell (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) and Mahershala Ali (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1, “House of Cards”). The film is being produced by Scott Stuber (Ted, Safe House) through his Blue Grass Films shingle, with Jon Kilik (Foxcatcher, The Hunger Games) producing through his Jon Kilik Productions, and Ross producing through his Larger Than Life Productions. STX Entertainment will release the movie nationwide on May 13, 2016.
I honestly don't like the poster at all. I mean all it is is McConaughey's face and it does nothing to give you an idea of what the film is about. If they had possibly went with a still photo from the film of McConaughey in battle then I think people might be curious to check out the film. Now granted it's a poster and it doesn't mean the film will be bad, but the poster is apart of the marketing and I just don't think this was the way to go with the poster. The film sounds absolutely amazing and it's a film I defiantly want to see, but the poster could've been batter.
