My Review of The Revenant

So I recently watched The Revenant and I'm here to bring you my review. So without further ado...

While exploring the uncharted wilderness in 1823, legendary frontiersman Hugh Glass (played by Leonardo DiCaprio) sustains injuries from a brutal bear attack. When his hunting team leaves him for dead, Glass must utilize his survival skills to find a way back home to his beloved family. Grief-stricken and fueled by vengeance, Glass treks through the wintry terrain to track down John Fitzgerald (played by Tom Hardy), the former confidant who betrayed and abandoned him.

This was a completely mind-blowing and spectacular film. Leonardo DiCaprio continues to prove that he is one of the greatest actors of all-time and this performance is one that will not only get him an Oscar nomination, but that elusive Oscar he has been chasing for a long time and if he doesn't win for this film, then I don't know when or if he'll ever win one. He completely buys into both the film and the role and if he wasn't so recognizable then you couldn't tell who is was in the role and that says a lot for an actor of his caliber. Not only is DiCaprio fantastic, but the entire supporting cast was brilliant led mainly by Tom Hardy who is in his most menacing role yet and he deserves and Oscar nomination and he may win due to the supporting actor category being one of the weaker ones in recent memory. Alejandro G. Iñárritu is another key piece to the puzzle as he does a masterful job of directing this film and being able to get the entire cast and crew to go above and beyond to make this film what it became. The final key piece to the film was cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki who is easily the greatest cinematographer of all-time and he's going to win his third Oscar in a row for Best Cinematography and it's well deserved due to the cinematography in this film which just flows with such ease and so smoothly and all of the shots were set-up so well and the addition of using all natural light (which for those that don't know is using no lighting fixtures whatsoever and using mostly sunlight and other natural lights) which is a bold move in the sense that it's a risk that can easily backfire in an instant, but in the hands of Lubezki there was no doubt this was going to work. Overall this is a violent and brutal film with some fantastic performances, directing and cinematography that easily makes it an Oscar frontrunner. I give The Revenant a 10 out 10.
